Depends where you are staying, but I wouldn't pay Golden Nugget rake away from the O8 tournaments. If you are staying there and it saves a taxi fare, it is different.
Would second both the Wynn and Aria. Both nice places to play, both reasonable rake. I would add the Rio deep stacks are great whilst the WSOP is on. The standard is awful, the prize pools big. I think the rake is around that of the Nugget and it just isn't as nice.
The Wynn might be out of your price range, as I think they start at $400. I would sell some and play that rather than pay Golden Nugget Rake (The Wynn $400 is $360+$40, the Nugget $250 is $200+$50). Aria has $110+$30 and $195+$45 tournaments according to their website. I think the Nugget $125 is really $95+$30 as there is an "optional" $5 add on for dealers, which I assume adds a big chunk of chips.

Curious to know people's thoughts on this one - if you were going to Vegas and could play just one tournament (smaller buyins of $100-$200 or so, assume most people would like to play the WSOP ME if possible!) which casino would you choose and why?
Caesars for me it has the nicest dealers and floor staff and they do their utmost to make it a good experience for you

Thanks for the replies so far, interesting that no-one has mentioned the Venetian because up until recently that was where I was thinking of trying to play but have been reading some poor reviews about it from locals.
I'm going to be there from 25th-31st May. Am going with the wife and have one tournament booked in already, at The Orleans, where we're staying, on 25th. I may get away with playing in two others if I'm lucky
I realise it's a subjective question, but interesting to know people's thoughts and why

Wynn and Aria defo the nicest freshest places to play but if you want a good all rounder try the Venetian

https://www.headforpoints.com/2018/02/24/30-bonus-buy-virgin-miles-using-miles-booster-good-deal/
British Airways has launched some attractive Club World fares to the US and Canada for Autumn and Winter travel. These are not being advertised by BA as far as I can see, but they are out there (Trailfinders is promoting them here) and they are bookable via ba.com.
Las Vegas £1449
The fares are valid for departures on selected dates between 28th October and 14th February 2019. A Saturday night stay is required. The offer is bookable until 28th February.
Virgin Atlantic has brought back its occasional ‘Miles Booster’ promotion with a 30% bonus. This allows you to buy Virgin Flying Club miles very cheaply if you have a Virgin Atlantic cash or reward booked or have taken one recently.
This offer appears to be targeted to people who were emailed about it by Virgin Atlantic. I cannot find any reference to the deal on the Flying Club website. If you were not contacted yesterday then you should assume you are not included.
Miles Booster only works if you have a Virgin Atlantic cash or reward flight booked or have taken one in the last six months. You are able to buy an additional 200% of the base miles you will earn from the flight for just 1p each. This gets even cheaper during this promotion.
Click here for details. If you have a New York economy flight booked, for example, you would earn 6,916 base miles from your trip.
Miles Booster allows you to buy up to 13,832 additional miles for just 1p each. Plus, until 9th March 2018, you would get an extra 30% bonus as well.
If you maximised the Miles Booster option for a New York economy flight, you would be able to buy a total of 17,981 Virgin Flying Club miles for just £138.32. That is 0.77p each, which is well worth considering.
You can retrospectively buy miles via Miles Booster for any Virgin Atlantic flights taken in the last six months, cash or reward. Yes, even previously flown or currently booked redemptions count. If your trip is in the future, you will not receive your Miles Booster miles under three days after you return.

Hotel bookings in Vegas.
What are the pros & cons of booking direct with the hotel, as opposed to via, say, Boookin.com, Expedia or the like?
Is there much difference?
If I book direct with the hotel, they limit me to 11 nights, so I have to make multiple bookings if I plan to stay longer, but with the booking.com type sites I can book up to 30 nights.
Any other pros & cons?

Main pro is that if you book with the hotel direct, you can cancel and rebook at no extra cost if you see your dates at a cheaper rate during a sale, for example. With expedia and the like (although booking.com can be a bit more lenient), you're locked in to the price now.
Also, if you book w/ hotel direct you generally pay your bill when you check out, so if you've gambled a decent amount/ask nicely you could see some of those hotel charges disappear. If you book with the sites its money up front and they generally don't credit it back.

hmmm, just had a quick look and seen how much lower the rewards club miles re worth nowadays. Florida is generally circa 35k miles to redeem. At the above rates those 35k would cost me around £275. Add the tax you have to pay and i'm looking at well over £500 per flight, when I pay less than that for far more booking flexibility

You gamble as much as I do, which is why I hunt around so much. There is never any danger of me getting comped anything.
I saved a monkey by booking my last 10 nights at the Cosmo with lowcostusa, as opposed to direct.
I have the same problem booking direct with the Nugget, as they only allow 14 nights, but it's easy enough to just take the other 3 on.

Just been looking at the Aria series and with the recommendations for that maybe I’ll stretch to the $240 tourney one evening...

Also in the event that there is a problem, the hotel is within their rights to tell you to sort it out with experts. Good luck with that.

That didn't make much sense, auto-correct ftl.
The hotel can bounce you back to the 3rd party you booked it through, so they can tell you to sort it out with
Expedia

I've used lowcost, booking, and ebookers. Been fortunate to never have any agg like that.
