Great, great, Upodate snoops, especially as it's been mainly a solo job. Legend.

A terrific Day Two in prospect.

In-Poker will be there on Sunday, so best bibs & tuckers for all those who Final, & if that includes Chompy, he needs to get a haircut.

It'd be terrific Karma if Chompy cashed big, considering he's paid for this Update. It'd be pretty good for those who Staked him, too. ;)

Not quite solo Maureen, but, as I said, "mainly solo".

Fran helped out on Day 1a, (thanks Fran!), but I've not been there, & I've been busy, so I don't know who, if anyone, helped him yesterday. Either way, a great Update so far, one of his best.

Some bad news to kick off the day. Not an exit as such, but Graham Wheldon is sadly unable to play due to personal reasons/family commitments.

Title: Re: BlueSquare.com GUKPT Walsall - Day 2
Post by: snoopy1239 on February 28, 2009, 02:13:32 PM
We've normally lost about 10 by now, but it's like ante morgue in here at the moment. Not one demise.

The shortest stack in the room, Ved Madan, did push all in one hand, but he survived to fight another day.

Title: Re: BlueSquare.com GUKPT Walsall - Day 2
Post by: snoopy1239 on February 28, 2009, 02:18:21 PM
Colin Hotchkiss is the first man out today. Greg Hunt opened with A-K, Hotchkiss pushed for 23,000 with A-Q, no improvement.

Also gone is Rob Reece, his aces being busted by David Birtles pocket jacks on a J-Q-4-2-K rainbow board.

Title: Re: BlueSquare.com GUKPT Walsall - Day 2
Post by: snoopy1239 on February 28, 2009, 02:30:02 PM
"Aaaaah, give us a hug," said Josh Tyler as he and Mickey Wernick both revealed A-Q.

After an A-3-T-Q-3 rainbow hit the felt, The Worm added, "Why couldn't you have had kings?"

Nevertheless, the two high-fived (quite a sight), and took back their chips. "That's just wasted three minutes of my life," concluded Tyler.

Andy Miles has doubled through, sadly, for Martino Libertini, in rather fortunate circumstances. All in with 9s 9c, Qc Qs, Miles missed a 5c Kh 6h flop, but hit the 9h turn head-on to go ahem... miles ahead. No nine on the 8d river, and Libertino was back down to 20,000.

We've also lost Rupinder Bedi. Short-stacked, he pushed with 4-3, but the chap to his left, who had just that moment sat down, found A-K and swiftly made the call. Bedi failed to improve.

Fellow Leicestertonian Neil Blatchley is fairing similarly poorly, although he did get his chip in with the goods. Catching Andy Louca on the pinchy pinchy, Blatchley made with the call with Ac Qd, but couldn't survive a Js Kc 3h 9d 9s board against the local's Td 9h. Louca only doubled through to 15,000, but, still, with 30,000 left, it was a hit Blatchley could ill afford.

Post by: snoopy1239 on February 28, 2009, 02:58:32 PM
Prior to his demise, Alan Vinson managed to double up Alan Stearn, the latter getting it all in with Kc Js versus Ahrt Qd. "Oh dear," sighed Stearn as we called, but he needn't worried, as the board came a decisive 7c Jc Jh Ad Th to award him the pot. That was several minutes ago; he currently has 57,000.

This is the relieved (although it's difficult to tell) face of Darren Hickman. He just doubled up courtesy of start of day chip leader Dinh Doat Le with 9c 9d versus Ac Jc on an ensuing 2s Kh 5d Qd 5d board.

Mostafazadehasl (I kid you not) has just been eliminated by Steve Brown with Ac 2c versus 8s 8h on a Ks 2s Qh Kh 9h board.

I'm sorry, I have to go back to that name... Mostafazadehasl!!! Imagine that on a treble word score! "I think if you've got that in front of you," muses Neil Channing, "you're playing Greek scrabble."

Nick Gibson raised to 4,600, only for David Birtles to min-raise to 9,200. On the Ahrt Jd Ad flop, both players checked, before Birtles led out for 7,000 on the Th turn. Gibson called. As soon as the Kh river hit, Birtles pushed all in for 40,000, putting Gibson to a decision for virtually all his chips. After a long dwell, Gibson made the fold.

I won't reveal his hand, but I will say Gibson made a huge laydown. What's the minimum you call with given the details above?

Andy Miles -- 19,000
David Jones -- 45,000
John Eames -- 75,000

Glen Ashworth has just been eliminated with tens versus kings.

Gibson folded an underfull yes? The betsizing seems to make it impossible for villain to have anything worse than Aces full of Kings here. So the minimum I call with would be Qh Jh. ;D

Neil Blatchley raised preflop with J-J, Tim Blake flat-called with 8-8, as did Dave Mauldin in the the big blind. All three players checked the Jd Ts 5c flop, only for Maudlin to lead out for 7,000 on the 5d turn. Blatchley called, Blake folded. On the 8c river, Maudlin pushed, Blatchley called, and Maudlin mucked.

"I did have 99,900," claimed Blatchley," but I just took the blinds with A-Q, so I have over 100,000 now."

Thanks for the updates Snoops - fantastic as usual. Sucks that Chompy was the one man unable to make it back today when he deserved to most. All the best to him.

Andy Psaras is out. I didn't catch the hand, but I got the important details: stand, coat, leave.

(Q) Where is he heading?

(A) Door
(B) Roulette wheel
(C) Cashier

(http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=25442&g2_serialNumber=1)

Unfortunately i was heading for the door.
After losing a 40kish pot with QQ against 44 all in pre flop my assasin rivered a 4 leaving me close to the felt where i never recovered.

Thanks for updates, great as usual.

Andrew

We're back, and we've already witnessed someone leave with a limp.

Darren Hickman = Qd Qs
Aaron Barry = Ks Kd

Board = Jc Ac 5h 6s Qc

One up the bum, lots of harm done.

I pretty much agree. I think the big decisions come with 1010, JJ and KK, and the nut flush. Any aces full is a call. If you have reason to suspect he is definitely not bluffing, trips, straight or lower flush is an easy pass.

Most borderline hand to decide I believe is JJ.

When I spoke to Dan Carter earlier, he had around 60,000 and said, "I've been up and down, made a lot of loose calls earlier and hit part of the board, but not enough of it." However, since then, it would appear as though Carter has doubled through because he now has closer to the 100,000 mark.

The biggest pot went to Joe Grech. He and Osman Mustanoglu entered into a mammoth preflop raising war with Grech's aces holding up against queens. This is why he is now your current chip leader with 230,000.

Peter Arrigoni is also out, although he never quite got going today.

Karl Mahrenholz is out. With a raise to 7,500 and a call from Sunny Chattha, Mahenholz made his move with T-9 suited and pushed all in for 38,000. He didn't expect, however, Alan Stearn to over-call behind him with J-T. The original raiser folded, but Chattha called with pocket nines which held up to eliminate both players.

"I knew he was squeezing," claimed Stearn in the aftermath.

Apologies for the brisk post, poor connection means posts can take a few minutes to process, so I'm just trying to get up as much info as I can.

With Greg Hunt raising to 8,500 from the button, Mark Bointon decided to move all in on the big blind and swiftly slid his 35,000 stack over the line. Clearly not comfortable with the decision, and fully aware that if he were to call he'd only be left with 30,000, Hunt set up tent in the think tank for a good two or three minutes before making what appeared to be a very reluctant call.

(http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=25472&g2_serialNumber=1)

Bointon = Ks Qc
Hunt = Aspades Jh

Board = 8d 2d Kc 4c 2h

With his head resting on his knuckles, Hunt looked like a child who'd woken up to find that Santa had wrapped up human excrement and left it under the tree. Bointon, meanwhile, quietly raked in the 60,000 plus pot and posted his small blind. Next hand.

Coming back off the break in fifth place with a mighty stack of 152,400, Josh Tyler will have been in confident mood, but in the space of just two or three hands, he found himself propping up the rail and wondering if life as a blogger would be a less stressful career path (I can confirm, it's not).

The man who threw the first punch was Senh Man Ung, his Kd Td on a 4d Qd Js 9h board leaving Tyler's Jh 9h in search of one of six outs. However, after the Qs river, it was Ung who took the pot, whilst Tyler could but shake his head in frustration and reconstruct a now depleted 80,000 stack.

A hand or two later, Tyler found himself in the small blind up against Stephen Holden in the big. Assuming their was preflop action of some kind, Holden led for 35,000 on a 9h Qc Td flop before snap-calling Tyler's all-in. On their backs, and it was Holden who boasted the lead with Ad Ac versus Ks Qs. The 4c turn and 8s river were close, but no cigar, and the pot went to the Brummie. After a quick chip count, it emerged that Holden had his man just about covered, meaning the Tyler had fallen off his roof.

With 28 being paid, it is Michael Greco who has felt the full splash of the bubble, his A-K failing to hit against pocket tens. In fact, it was the latter that hit, spiking a third ten on the flop. I was going to throw a "duff, duff, duff" Greco's way as he left, but I don't think I'd be able to finish the update with someone beating me to death with my own leg.

Steve Brown is down to just a bowel of rice (well, if that bowel of rice cost 5,000). The action folded round to Greg Hunt in the small blind who pushed with Kd Jd, Brown called with Aspades 8d, but couldn't quite survive a dramatic 8s Qd 4h Ac Ts board. Ouch.

Yes, bittersweet for Chompy. He's out now though; didn't even get a board.  :(

Alan Trueick (big blind) = Jh Jd

Board = 8c Ac 4h Jc Th

Hunt gone, and probably mumbling a word that rhymes with his surname.

Assuming that Stephen (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=804) Holden (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=804) raised it up preflop and David (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2102) Jones (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2102) called, the two players saw a 6c Jc Qh flop where Holden bet 17,000 and Jones flat-called. On the 2h river, Holden simply shoved all in, and Jones called.

Jones = Aspades Qc
Holden = Qs Qd

... with no card in the deck, our daydream believer was left drawing dead and rose from his seat before the Kc river was even dealt.

Martyn Cavanagh was a player who just missed out on the cash, pipped by Chompy who wasn't here. Cavanagh's demise came predominantly at the hands of Dana Carter who raised from the button; Cavanagh called in the small blind with A-J. Both checked the 4-4-J flop, and the eight turn, but it all went in on the six river, Carter lapping up the pot with A-4. Down to 17,000, Cavanagh then went out with A-J, again, versus pocket fives on a K-6-8-6-x board.

Senh Man Ung and Joe Grech saw a cheap Jd Td 8s flop in the small and big blind respectively. Joe Grech called a bet of 15,000, and both players checked the 7h turn. On the Qd river, Ung led for 30,000 and Grech folded.

Jerome Bradpiece raised to 10,500 from early postion, Trevor Reardon made it 30,000 and Bradpiece flat-called. On the 4d 5d Tc flop, all the chips flew in, Bradpiece in need of assitance with Qh Th versus Ahrt Ac. However, he's running well, and after the 7h turn, duly spiked two pair on the Qd river.

Ouch.

And just as quickly as he wins them, he see them go sailing away. With Stephen Chadwick raising to 20,000 under-the-gun, the action folded round to Stephen Holden who put a chip on his cards, paused, and reraised the original raiser all in. Without too much hesitation, Chadwick called.

Chadwick = Ac Js
Holden = Ad Kh

Board = Th 6c 2d Ts 3c

Holden closes regains the chip lead.

On a Js 3h 8c, he check-raised Holden's 60,000 bet all in for just another 60,000 more. Holden didn't like it, and after a pause, made the reluctant call.

Holden = Ad 8h
Chattha = Qd Jd

Chattha really wanted this, you could just tell. He rose from his seat, all tense, and held his breath as the 4s turn hit the felt. On the 6s river, he clenched both fists and one-inch-punched the air in silence before retaking his seat.

"Go on, my son," shouted Karl (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=227) Mahrenholz (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=227) from the rail, although I can confirm that they are not related in any form.

On Table 1, Osman Mustanglu raised to 18,000 in the cut-off, only for Dinh Doat Le to push all in for around 135,000 from the button. The action ground to a halt on Joe Grech in the big blind who dwelt for what felt like an age (I'm sure I was clean shaven this morning). "I want you, and him, to call. I wanna treble up," said Le confidently. "You have tens? Jacks? Call me." Grech constructed the correct amount and slid it towards the line, but put on the brakes at the last second. "It's getting closer," observed Grech. "Call me," repeated Le. In the end, both Grech and Mustanogl folded, the latter showing an ace in the hole.

Derek Miller has just take two pots away from James Akenhead. Akenhead made a standard preflop raise on both. On the first, Miller came over the top with pocket jacks; Akenhead folded. On the second, Miller just flat called from the button, before raising Akenhead continue bet all in on a 4c 3c 3d flop. Akenhead showed 5c 5s; Miller had Ac Jc.

Farhad Kia pushed all in in early position for around 60,000. Sunny Chattha called in the big blind. "I've only looked at one," confessed Kia as he flipped over Aspades Tc. Chattha tabled 7c 7h. A clinical 2c Qh 5c 7d 2h board later, and Kia is out in 14th place.

James Akenhead made a standard raise from the cut-off, Aaron Barry pushed all in from the small blind, and, after a brief pause, Akenhead threw in the extra 75,000.

Akenhead = Qs Td
Barry = Qs Td

Board = Kc Ks 4c 4h 8c

Barry doubles up to 200,000, and the collective shoulders of the media drop.

After a dogged performance that would make a spider in the loo like he hadn't got his swimming badge, Mark Bointon has finally met his match in Alan Trueick, or, more accurately, Alan Trueick and the Poker Gods. All in with Aspades Kh, Bointon was in great shape against Trueick's Ad Qd, but a 5d 8s Jd Kd Qc board soon changed that and sent Bointon boinging towards the rail. Trueick to form, Alan takes down another pot and now has 420,000. He could well be the dark horse for this event. (For the avoidance of doubt, in no way do I mean that he resembles a horse, in any form.)

I join the action on the Ahrt Th Js flop, Jerome (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=199) Bradpiece (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=199) facing a bet from Dinh Doat (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2938) Le (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2938). Bradpiece knows that if he calls, he's probably going to have to call the rest on the turn, so after he made his decision, announced raise and put his foe all in. Doat Le rose from his seat abruptly and confidently waved his hand forward. "Call!"

(http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=25492&g2_serialNumber=1)

Le = Ac Qc
Bradpiece = Kc Td

Turn = 8c
River = 3s

A misstep from Bradpiece, and his expression says it all, his cheeks blown out as he shakes his head in frustration. He sinks to 205,000.

Thanks also to everyone for all the good-will messages, much appreciated.
Good to see David Johnson make the money too, top player and a top man to boot.
Like to see S.Holden take this one down, nice guy and plays the game the way it should be played.

No Turkish delight this time for Osman Mustanoglu. After nurturing a short-stack since losing the mammoth aces versus queens hand to Joe Grech earlier on in the day, he found the same man braced to seal his fate. All in on a 3d 2h Js flop with 7h 7d, Mustanoglu was in piping hot water against Grech's Ad Jd, and after a 6d turn and 6s river, he was gone in 12th.

We're now on a ten minute break, so hopefully chip counts to come shortly.

We are now hand-for-hand after losing Jerome (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=199) Bradpiece (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=199) in 11th. After Dinh Doat (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2938) Le (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=2938) had made it 35,000 from under-the-gun, Bradpiece reraised all in and Le called, in the abrupt, confident manner that we have become accustomed to.

Le = Js Jc
Bradpiece = Ac Qc

As a third knave hit the 5d Jh Qs flop, Le leapt into the air and slammed his fist onto the table. "No queen!" he demanded, and the dealer duly obliged, laying a raggy 5s onto the felt. A Jd on the river for bonus quads received a further cheer as Le celebrated with friend Lam (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=241) Trinh (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=241) on the rail. "Yes!" he eclaimed in delight.

Meanwhile, Jerome (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=199) Bradpiece (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=199) appeared stunned, his feet seemingly glued to the ground as his eyes remained fixated on the felt. Even when Le went over to shake his hand, Bradpiece was still motionless, his mouth slightly ajar.

Eventually, Bradpiece made his way out of the cardroom, slightly fatigued after a hard, but, in his eyes for sure, fruitless day's work and understandably gutted not only to have missed out on the final table, but also the chance of emulating his achievement from two years ago.

With the board reading 3d Js Jd, Stephen Holden bet 80,000, Aaron Barry pushed all in, and Holden called the additional 70,500.

Holden = Td 7d
Barry = Js Qc

Turn = 4c
River = Qd

For a moment there, Barry thought he'd been Melivinned, but as soon as he realised that the pot was his, he slammed the table in ecstasy.

Double up for Barry.

Drama here in Walsall. With exit holes pulsating rapidly and palms sweating profusely, it's two big stacks who clash to supply us with an unexpected all-in! As quick as a flash, Sunny (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=423) Chattha (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=423) and Dinh Do Le find all their chips splattered across the felt.

Chattha = Ahrt Ac
Le = Kc Kd

Board = 6h Qc 3d Qh 4s

They're counting Le chips as I write. If he's not out, he certainly crippled.

Le survives.

After what was by far the biggest pot of the tournament, Dinh Doat Le is your new short-stack with 60,000, whilst at the other end of the spectrum, Sunny Chattha is your new chip leader with what must be around the 850,000 mark. He should be safe for a spot on the final table now,

It's strange, in some ways, Dinh Doat Le could be described as very cocky, but, at the same time, you can't help but admire his bravado. Under-the-gun and with the blinds about to hit, Le picked up his two remaining stack in each hand and confidently threw them across the line. "All-in!" he exclaimed, and is proud that he was all in and wanting to make sure everyone knew. "Call me, everyone," he dared, "double me up," perhaps not spotting the lack of logic in his statement.

With the action folded around to Sunny Chattha in the big blind, the current chip leader took one look at his hand, scrunched his face and made the call.

Chattha = Qs 9c
Le = 8c 8h

Board = 3c Qh 5c Ahrt 5c

And with that, a buoyant and charismatic character had departed, and we had our final nine.

Well, that's your lot from me afraid, but what a three days it's been. Although I've been solo for the majority of it, I have to confess, this year's Walsall GUKPT may have been the most hectic, action packed leg I've attended. Every time I sat down there seemed to be an exit or a double up, and failing that, some entertaining banter, predominantly with Paul (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=334) Parker (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=334) or Josh (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1544) Tyler (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1544) at the centre. On a similar note, it's been great to see a talented Sunny (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=423) Chattha (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=423) make the final table (I agree, he's due a big 'un), as well as Mickey (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=283) Wernick (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=283) who showcased glimpses of old by grinding his way onto the final table - good luck to both. But don't count out the other seven, they're a lively, dangerous bunch, so there should be plenty of fireworks tomorrow. I'll certainly be interested to see who manages to get their greasy paws on that highly sought out trophy.

Many thanks to the Grosvenor and BlueSquare for their hospitality, Fran who helped me out for the first few levels of Day 1a and, of course, Chompy who sponsored the update and made it all possible. Just in case this is my last update for blonde, I'd finally like to say thank you to the readers of the thread and any of you who complimented the coverage. Many thanks, it didn't go unnoticed.

So, on that note, there's just one thing left to say...

I'd miss these updates should they disappear and sure a lot of others would too.
I'm happy to co-sponsor for the rest of the year (seven more, exc the summer series), if one, two or three others fancy joining me?
Send me a PM if so...

LOL, I agree imo. It's the future of poker, gamble on day 1 and then don't turn up on day 2

Joe Grech calls my all-in thinkin I'm weak. My 77 is called by his KJos and he rivers the K doubling his satck and making me shortstack. A few hands later Grech makes up the bb and I check holding 10 8 the flop comes 2 4 10 he checks, I all-in he calls with A4 and I'm looking good to be back in contention, but 'RiverAsUsual' comes an ace.

I'm out 4th for £23k.

John/Derek,

There's a tale behind that Call with K-J.....

You had shoved quite a lot with small/medium pairs, got them all through, & then SHOWN THE HANDS.

Which, Joe told me, is why he made that Call with K-J.

The A-4 was a bit of a purler, to be fair!

You were unlucky, but it's all part & parcel of poker.

Personally, I'd say cashing for £23k was pretty lucky!

But well done on a great performance, & it was particularly pleasing to see how you handled yourself at Walsall, after last month's shennanigans, (not by you!).

It was a pleasure to meet you.

Gotta say I was wondering why you were showing hands when getting a raise through.
