many thanks to www.thefirmpoker.com who have contributed financially to this update taking place

Three of their staked players, Stuart Rutter, Ben Jenkins and Mark McCluskey have made it through and I will be updating their progress over on their site this afternoon

many thanks to Supernova for her help yesterday. As she intimated I have been under the cosh, so her presence was invaluable.

My apologies if I went too...

I'll be running around doing updates today, the wheels are coming off already though my laptop wont connect to the wifi, the casino staff won't spill the password for the staff network so I can only post from my phone!

Long day ahead I suspect

Gl to Ben Jenkins, Mark McClusky, Stuart Rutter, Matt Frankland and Simon Deadman today, 'bout time one of them won something! ;)

Some interesting table draws - DTD Heroes Nick Hicks and Simon Deadman both have chips in Table 9 so could be some interesting action over there

Its been pretty jam-up action so far

On table 6 Lee Taylor raises the button playing ~24k and the BB Stephen Boyd peels from the BB

Flop  7h 8h 2c

Boyd leads for 3700 which is about a pot size lead

Taylor jams for 22k and Boyd dwell folds

Another sizeable pot on Table 6

it folds to Craig Burgess in the SB who limps

Danny Tran in the BB checks (fast paced stuff so far)

They see a  Kc 9d Qd flop

Burgess checks and Tran fires 2200 and gets check raised to 8000 which Tran calls

Turn is an interesting  8d

Burgess fires 20k(!!)

Tran dwells for a bit and folds showing the  Ks

It worked out being 18k to calling 54k so 45s is getting 3 to 1 so needs 25% equity

Its pretty tough to pokerstove because of all the side pots. I've left out the guy calling all in for <1bb from the calculations too because stove assumes that everyone is playing for the the same pot

The main pot accounts for about 43k of it and is just heads up with 45s vs Mark McCluskys jamming range which I've put conservatively as 77+, A9s+, QTs+, AJo, KQo

Overall against fairly strong ranges (which they both should have, he can't really expect the guy calling all in for 10k to clown it off with 56s) the  4s 5s is ~24% which needs to be weighted somewhat towards the 33% number because most of the pot is heads up. That'll tip it over the magic 25% mark to make it a +chipEV call

ICM hates calls like this so that'll take it down a bit but overall I don't think its ever going to be worse than breakeven

Sorry to shake your faith Alex but its 1-0 to Tighty. Early doors though.

Rob Boon bets 8,000, Danny Toffel calls..

Danny checks to Rob who again fires, this time 15,000, Danny quickly calls....

The river comes  Tc

Danny decides to bet this time making it 36,000, Rob goes into the tank before making the call...

How come no mention of Steve Warburton in any of these updates? Looks like he is doing well in the chip counts. And he's a really good player too.  But all we hear is how Simon has coolered someone/won a race, or Praz has outdrawn someone/flopped a straight etc.

This isn't deliberate and his 45s hand got a lot of coverage

Its natural that two of the chip leaders get a lot of the coverage, they're playing the biggest pots in the room!

He has 170,000 after he was forced to 4 bet fold just before the break to 3 tables

His break of table puts him on the non Deadman table and he has avoided Banzi too

Get to a board reading A-8-3-2-5

Craig Burgess and Praz Bansi are involved and the pot is about 25k

On the river Craig checks to Praz

Praz thinks and bets about 80k setting Craig all in for his last 35k

Craig thinks and thinks and eventually calls

Praz shows J-10 for Jack high

Craig shows 8-9 for 2nd pair to win the hand as he fist-pumps and collects the pot seemingly very happy with his call on the river

Yesterday was appalling. Beef Curry though my sources reported the Pork curry was nice

today I had lamb shank that simply melted off the bone, gorgeous

Green beans, new potatoes

Could have had Macaroni cheese or Shepherds Pie

I sweet talked a lady called Marie into giving me seconds

Front of queue sadly lacking this week, too busy to plan in detail the timings to make it there

I am setting up for a Bacon Cheeseburger and fries about 11pm if yesterday is anything to by, though im my defence I didn't have breakfast, lunch or a mid afternoon snack

Folds to John Miller who completes from the SB, BB Gregory Hunt checks

Flop  Qc 2h 4h

Miller checks, Hunt bets 6k and gets raised to 15k. He dwells for a bit and calls giving Miller that 'dubious' look

Turn  9d

Check check

River  2d

Miller bets 6k into 36k on the river, Hunt calls

Miller  9c 4s
Hunt  Qs Ts

I once rivered Greg Hunt after shoving 8bb with K4 and him calling with QQ.  Despite having quite a big stack at the time he moaned about it for a good half an hour after.  Can only imagine his reaction to this one.

Think he'd be ok seeing as he won the hand

Oops....oh yeah

No list of runners as far as I'm aware but it got 42, £11,750 prize pool 5 paid £4k up top

We've got 4 reporters on 3 tables now so we've got the time to take some requests as things tighten up a bit on the bubble so to all the lurkers, don't be shy!

Hmm I thought it was correct at the time, but changed my mind on the way home.  I was the 97 off fella and briefly said so on the way out btw  :hello:

I arrive to see Praz Bansi betting 35k into a pot of 50k on a board of

 8c Kc Th Ac

Martin Holmes jams for about 140k, Bansi thinks for a bit and folds

Holmes shows the  Qc Tc for the nut flush

A few chip counts to follow shortly

Praz Bansii opens to 10k at 2k/4k/400 under the gun, folds to Ben Jenkins who jams 77k from the small blind

Bansi has a bit dwell, announces 'gamble time' and calls with AT. Ben shows AT also

The board is devoid of miracles and they chop up the blinds and antes

Title: Re: GUKPT Walsall Day 2
Post by: TightEnd on April 30, 2011, 10:11:40 PM
Things are pretty steady here

the three shortstacks are Ben Jenkins, John Miller and Craig Burgess all with under 100,000

Still 20x bb stacks though so ideal 3 bet shoving territory and not likely to be called automatically by many of the others

Title: Re: GUKPT Walsall Day 2
Post by: TightEnd on April 30, 2011, 10:15:28 PM
Danny Toffel makes it 9,000 to play, Simon Deadman 3-bets from the button to 26,200, Danny calls...

The flop comes K-8-6

Danny checks to Simon who bets 32,400, Danny quickly calls....

The turn comes 10

Both players check.

The river is 6

Danny bets 35,000, which is enough to take the pot as Simon passes.

+1 to nick hicks being the nicest guy ever!

No justice unless he wins

I agree. He is a really nice guy. And a really good player too. He has been playing for a long time now and has been getting it quietly for many years as a consistent winning player in both cash games and tourneys. But he's never had that little bit of luck to bink something big that so many other players have had even though they have been playing a lot less time and are nowhere near as good at poker. I really hope he wins.

OK its goodnight from us

Thank you very much to Supernova and DMorgan for volunteering to update today. Once again, much appreciated. They now hate me, but thanks anyway lol

It should be a fantastic final tomorrow with some very popular players fighting for the £48,880 first prize

These include Nottingham's finest Simon Deadman and Nick Hicks, Team Sky Poker's newest recruit Ryan Spittles and The Firm Poker's Ben Jenkins as well as blonde toffster, Danny Toffel

We kick off at 2pm

Good night

Mustve been sick sweat for deadman with the T8, what with the guy having 2outs after the flop instead of just one.

Vbol to nick. Simon, just carry on.

And I'm def only 25 too! Cos is much older than me ffs.

Anyway, tough job for the updaters, super long shifts and they must be knackered!  Much respect for that.

lol tyty just catching up, was erm a bit busy to get to read most posts, but now I reckon I'd win at least a bronze if musical chairs was an Olympic sport.

No pint I'm afraid, but a hot chocolate with tia maria and having a good laugh swaping anecdotes at 5.30am watching the sun come up on the hotel patio (which was freezing and twice as windy as Southfork ranch for those of you that can vaguely remember Dallas) after getting back from the Casino was hilarious.

That was a reporting error, river was a blank and 94 won

No, this was not a reporting error, it is accurate.
Also, my intention was to check/reraise all-in on the turn, which Greg said he would have folded and the 6k river bet was just a stopper-bet in case he had the Q and would have value bet bigger or for extra value on a weaker calling hand eg A9.
