Looking to take my eldest daughter for her 18th around October time..
Info on weather at time of year and things to do/see places to stay etc appreciated
Weather should be bearable, if you like some heat it'll be around the best time of year to come (summer is way too hot and humid). Note that the drinking age is 21 in Dubai, though realistically no one is going to ask any questions so I wouldn't worry about anything aside from the sky high prices. Groupon has a lot of dining and boozing vouchers, so worth checking that out or researching happy hours. Yes, it's an expensive city but you can mitigate this somewhat with prep. There are plenty of interesting dining experiences to be had. Lots of incredible sub continent food in old Dubai, the North Korean restaurant was one of the most surreal nights I've ever had. Don't worry about being a foreigner or a woman here, it's one of the cleanest and safest places around. Lots of misinformation and sensationalism from people who literally don't have a clue (See directly above). You won't actually see too many locals (80% expat here), and the society is actually tolerant - a blind eye is turned to a lot of rule bending. Same holds true of anywhere - just don't piss anyone off, especially in public. Suggest an excursion to the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, get a ticket booked for dusk up the Burj Khalifa, see the Dubai Aquarium, skydive over the Palm, souks, abras and the Dubai museum in the old city, you can go dune bashing or a desert safari. To be fair there are a lot of options - most aren't particularly good to be fair, depends what you're looking for though.

Community Forums / The Lounge / Financial adviser recommendations (expat/tax status etc)

Citizens of Blonde, it feels like this will be the most worthwhile avenue to get a recommendation.
Can anyone recommend a UK-based IFA familiar with expat finances and taxation? Ideally they'd do Skype consults.
In summary, I'm a British citizen (thought I'd state the obvious), UAE resident, have a property in the UK - and ideally would like to play poker in Vegas without getting hammered by 30% withholding (bok) as I presume I can no longer take advantage of the tax treaty and my ITIN. Expect that is futile but tax rules are super complex so retaining a smidgen of hope - really need to structure what I do have anyway.
To be clear, not looking for advice, but hoping someone may have gone through the same process and 'knows a guy/girl'.
Thanks

Community Forums / The Lounge / Re: Brittania Parking fine

I used the Money Saving Expert templates to successfully appeal to the main parking body (can't remember what it's called). Originally appealed to the parking company, which was unsurprisingly rejected.
My mum is a blue badge holder and parked in a train station permit only bay on a weekend in a section that was completely empty - the station had just 3 disabled spaces out of 400 odd (further away than the permit areas from the station, and all taken), with available regular spaces too far away from the station for her to walk. Even though blue badge holders parked for free she'd paid for a ticket (she's not that bright sometimes).
Appealed based on the Equality Act (rejected), inadequate signage (rejected) and that a £60 fine wasn't a genuine measure of the loss suffered by the parking company (upheld).
As long as you've parked and the signage is clear, you've entered into a contract. If you breach that contract any remedy in law has to be proportionate (unless damages were suffered - which clearly isn't the case here) - this is seemingly the basis that most appeals are successful. Whilst they usually give up as there's no economy in pursuing tiny figures, these companies do have a legal basis to make a claim against you.

I have been resolute in my decision to vote OUT from the start but I'm afraid to say William Hague has cast doubt into my mind! Friggin William Hague! Perhaps it's ok to be part of something and not like it at the same time. We have all turned into soothsayers who know exactly how this organic, constantly changing EU is going to shape up in the future. We definitely wont have any influence over the direction it travels by standing outside the room. We chat about immigration but I bet Merkel has refined her welcome mat views after recent events and EU leaders will undoubtedly re-think strategy. Maybe in a few years we will really lol want to join again? Maybe if we had a shit hot PM working on our behalf he/she could really influence the EU in our favour?
The road map of both decisions should have been plotted out for sure but the truth is nobody has a Scooby Do what will happen. Europe could flourish in union over the next 10 years or Europe could fail completely, it's unchartered waters, nobody can really say, it's a matter of impulse. For example just as I become undecided I hear that Wolfgang Schauble says we wont be allowed single market access if we leave and now I find myself firmly committed to leaving again. As the line approaches I'm wavering and confused. Don't know why house prices going down is a bad thing. Is that bad thing? I will consider all things and review all evidence but any more threats from the Germans and that's that I'm afraid!
Pretty much sums up my feelings. I'm not a fan of large parts of the EU and was waivering for some time, but given the Leave campaign have presented me with nothing logical or concrete to go on I'll be a reluctant Remainer. I can accept that immigration is a concern for many, but for me it's a product of globalisation and not the EU - is somewhat unavoidable. In any case, with the growth of nationalist parties across Europe it'll only be a matter of time before the free movement of people pillar is severely under threat. Someone will restrict it, just a case of whether it's those already in power, or the ones that will replace them if they don't.

Big guy, bald head, talks a lot, likes showing his bluffs and raising out of the blinds.
Saw he had a big day one stack reading online somewhere and he seemed to fit the bill with how the hand played out. Just realised I've just assumed this was from Gentings Luton this weekend too.
Probably up the wrong tree on more counts than one :-)
Haha, might be! He did sound very British though, but given the stack size, and it was GPS Luton then I'd say you might be right! Probably him, he doesn't sound Greek at all. Likeable guy even with all the chat :-) Suspect identified! Think he'd peel out of position to a click 4b with an eff SPR of 1? Something less than 1% folding to the 4b I'd think. Peel more likely than a 5b but I think he would 5b (jam) a fair bit especially on a roll with a big stack Thanks, sounds like I probably needed one mini-validation to tip me into 4b territory.
