Having just read the latest list from the wsop it is apparent that yet again women dont feature very highly on the winners list.

My questions is - is it really worth women playing poker except to provide money for a tournament. There is no doubt that most women play poker differenly to men - the last womens comp I was in was a limpers fest a lot of the time.

So i want to know what men think when they see that one of the players at their table is a bird. This isn't about equality - I really want to know what you guys think when you play a woman - is it an opportunity to bluff a weak player off the pot, do you automatically think they are a weak player?

This isn't a woe is me topic - I really want to know what you think - don't give me any rubbish about all players being equal - we all make assumptions/have discriminatory thoughts at some time - even if it's about someones breath - so tell me honestly what your thoughts are about female players.

Ding

In general i have found most women players to be weak tight. I steal their blinds relentlessly the same as i would against weak tight male player. If they raise they have something is my starting assumption always and i can't remember being proved wrong very often.

I think genrally women players lack the gamble gene and would rather get blinded away than put their chips in with junk.

Have you ever come across a woman who isn't tight weak?

Just one, who i have played a few times in walsall. I haven't played many women in larger buy in tournaments (live) so assume i haven't played many skilled women players.

In my experience a lot of "rookie" lady players in the live arena are weak tight too...and certainly portray an air of reticence and absence of aggression. They tend to "nut peddle" and you can put them on a hand reasonably easily.

Interestinyl this was also my experience of watching the Laddies ladies event on Sky recently....a lot of the inexperienced players played this way too. Perhaps in Ladies only comps the Ladies play a different way?

However once this rookie level is passed I see no real difference. I play against successful "no name" female players and they compete night after night on an equal basis and that's the way it should be

To take one example on the festival circuit, being on the same table as Lucy Rokach is a real clench your poker buttocks experience. relentless aggression and a stare that would melt solid steel.

On the global stage no one is going to tell me that you sit opposite Kathy Liebert, Annie Duke, Jennifer Harman etc and not totally respect them and their play

This was pretty much what i was going to post.

I think theres a big difference between online and live play for women.

My mates girlfriend is a great online player, he's a very good player and she's learned a lot from him but she never seems to be able to translate that form to her live game.

She's comfortable in our company and knows everyone in our home game really well but for some reason she loses the qualities that make her a good online player as soon as the game starts.

I agree - so what is it that we loose when we get to the table? Do we have more of a sense of being found out/embarrassment if our bluffs are uncovered? Do women want to tell the truth more? What makes men more comfortable to bluff/be aggressive? Do men give a flying FXXXK if their bluff is uncovered?

It is of course dangerous to generalise, but I think ladies can be intimidated more easily at beginner level and thus "clam up"

Men are too busy being completely lacking in self awareness to notice!

I think a lot of people don't respect Annie "Angle Shooter" Duke.

The internet has opened the door to women poker players who wouldn't have dreamed of going into a casino and learning how to play. Just got to give them time to work their way up.

I suspect that if women are more empathetic than men? Then they may be able to use that to get better reads and at some point the best players in the world will be women.

My other half is coming along but my atempts to instill an aggression in her at the table have caused her to develop the motto 'play the game' at which point she bluffs off all her chips quite often. It's still a step in the right direction tho.

Trace, I have had you on my table (so to speak) a few time now, I have some thoughts, not on women players in general, but on your game in particular.

I'm off to Luton soon, are you going? If not, I will drop you a PM when I get a little time.

Just a guess, but I suspect it's a pun on the fact that you are self-aware enough to make that observation
