i think listening to the ipod allows me to concentrate better on the players actions when i am out of the hand. If i have the headphones in then i don't get involved in any conversations that distract my attention from the action.
It also keeps me out of those stupid confrontations with people who give it the 'next time you raise my big blind i'm all in, i don't give a f***' etc etc which just incites me to raise their BB next time anyway. I have one bloke who has said this to me a stupid amount of times and not once has he gone all in the next time but i see so many beginners or weak of will players who just refuse to raise his blinds because hes quite itimidating.

The older fellas also love a bit of speech play and it winds them up when they think i can't hear them.

but it's the conversation that give you information. you're taking away a big part of the deduction process by not listening.

As with sunglasses, I'm not going to ask people not to use them. if people want to handicap themselves,

I honestly don't get much from what people say, i get a lot more from there physical actions.

A while back I was amongst a group of poker players and came out with the following statement

"There are only two kinds of people who wear sunglasses indoors....blind people and c****"

One of the group of people I was with then piped up

"and poker players"

There was a deafening silence.

Mr Colclough ALWAYS wears an i-Pod. He believes my lisetning to music, it cuts out all the "crap" he would otherwise hear, & enables him to focus better.

There's no right or wrong to these things, it's each to their own.

Chili was doing her knitting at the table in Stoke last night.
