It's f***in boring after a while without the cards

Some of the details may be a bit sketchy as it was over a week ago.

Final table of a live tourney

Blinds are 1000/2000 I have 19000 chips

There are eight players left and top 3 get paid.

I am in the small blind and get

guy in middle position limps in ( i don't know much about him) he has about 20,000 chips

Girl on the button (who is VERY drunk) calls also. She has about 35,000

I call

Big Blind checks. He is a good player and chip leader on about 40,000 or so

pot is 8000

anyway flop comes

       three clubs

I check
BB checks
early limper Checks
Drunk girl bets 8,000

16,000 in the pot now

Now I go all in for my remaining 18,000

My thinking was that the other two could be on a flush draw and I wanted to chase them out. As it turns out everyone folded.

I can't help but feel I made a serious mistake in not doubling through here (or least getting someone to commit 18,000 chips to the pot along with me)

Should I have just flat called here and if someone hits a flush then "that's poker" ?

I feel that this is the hand that cost me the tournament.

Any opinions?

The push is a good one. On a board like this you have to bet your sets hard. there are FD's and straight draws out there. There's plenty in the pot so if everyone folds that's a shame in this case but better than slowplaying seeing a 6 hit and the BB having 24.

Don't think you done too much wrong.  You're entitled to think the drunk girl will call your last 10k if she's already put 8k in there.

Im coming round top the opinion more and more that Stu Ungars ideas were some of the best. Occasionally you can give a fee card to attempt a double up. But i do what you did.

You should have shoved pre but once the flop comes i like what you did.

I am not as scared as boldie so i am not worrying about the BB having 24 calling and hitting, she's bet 8k, she probably has something and there are about 25 cards that will scare her off on the turn so your best of jamming here.

hi John unlucky last night

im never playing AQ again...............lol

u did fine in my opinion...giving free cards is a no no with a pot that size and at that stage...u either double through or take the pot which was a good size anyhow....

im suprised u say this hand has been bothering u for over a week. u played the hand like most people would (apart from a pre flop shove). u won a decent amount, it only seems like there was an extra 10k from the drunk women u could of got

The pre flop shove is a total non starter IMHO. No-one will convince me otherwise.

If I just flat called the 8,000 then I wouldn't be giving the other two a free card as It would be 8,000 to call with 24,000 in the pot.

So they'd be getting decent odds but not a free card.

If they do hit a straight/flush then I do have about 10 outs to the full house or quads

If I do get 2 or all of them to come along with me and my hand holds up I have between 50,000 - 70,000 chips and have crippled one opponet and severley dented another one/two. I am now in pole position to win.

People talk about gambling early in an MTT to gain a big stack but for me the time to gamble is when your gamble takes you into 1st place with only 5 or 6 players left. Being chip leader when there are still 30 or 40 players doesn't count for very much.

Anyway it appears I am arguing with myself as everyone is saying I played it OK except for me  :-)
