think this is interesting

from an analysis of Lverpool's defending (or lack of it recently, a probelm across a lot of the premier league)

centre back the main problem? changes in jaunaruty to give you a realistic shot at winning the league?

The whole defence has been poor for a few seasons now.

A top quality centre back has still not been found and (although Milner does a very good job) a left back is desperately needed.

Then there are the goalkeeping issues.

Personally think it was fine. Half of em have been first team starters/players in the past. Plymouth being a league 2 team justifies it, with a semi-final on Weds too.

Lack of scoring against a tight defence is no surprise, been happening all season. Why we like playing the 'big' teams, they come out to play and give us space to exploit at the back

semi final on wednesday. good point, my bad.

does anyone else think TV game selection is all wrong?

why do we want to see Utd v reading, liverpool v plymouth and spurs v villa?

a) the big team should be away to increase upset risk
b) the big teams get exposure on tv every weekend anyway

show me barrow v rochdale and wycombe v stourbridge rather than Man U, again...

Amazing the Stoke v Wolves game wasn't on as one of the numerous live games given it is a big local derby.  You seriously telling me people would rather watch Leeds v Cambridge?

To be fair when I manage to take over the main Tv to watch football for 2 hours I want it to be of a good standard and watch the best.

the main games shown on live  tv should clearly be the lowest non league teams left in the 3rd round

Not a lot of people care about the FA cup anymore, having an exposure to a larger audience helps to keep it relevant. United, Liverpool, Chelsea are by far the teams with the biggest fanbase so having them on TV whenever possible makes the most sense. I don't think they should put any big teams on TV till round 6 and give the little teams the payday and exposure. It isn't anywhere near as big a competition as the FA try to make it out to be anymore so be nice if they stopped forcing the "best cup in the world" tag on us and started looking after the teams that need it.

According to some media the asking price for Sakho is £20M - surely they'd be snapping anyone's hand off for ~£12M.

Yeah totally agree, would much rather see the smaller teams in the earlier rounds.
Pretty sure Liverpool on tv because BT sport director is a massive Liverpool fan

Hang on a second....

Last season City fielded a very weakened team in the 5th round as we had an away last 16 tie in Kiev midweek then the league cup final on the weekend, and we were accused of throwing the competition, Liverpool field a weakened (ish) team with only a semi final on the horizon and its fine? Wink

I think the TV focus for the 3rd and 4th rounds should be the smaller clubs who have made it that far, then switch the attention to the 'bigger' clubs from 5th round onwards when naturally this will have filtered out most of the lower/none league clubs.

Obv exceptions are if you draw a City/united, Spuds/Arse, Pool/Everton type game early doors, but really no need for WHU vs City, united vs Reading etc to clog up the tellybox for the 3rd round.
