I think looking at the figures is nit picking. He's had backing. He's not delivered. The side you have is now a laughing stock. I said it last year and I'll say it again- last year was a one season wonder. Like when Ipswich finished in Europe or when Reading finished in the top half. Everything went your way. This year you've been shown up for what you are- a mediocre team.
You're right in a way tho Baron- you're history makes this barren spell all the more tougher.
Eh?
You were the one arguing that we hadn't over achieved a few posts ago, so I try to show we've done ok vs teams spending similar or more than us with evidence rather than pure opinion, and I'm nit picking. He's been backed less than four other sides in the last four years (not including Man Utd who have spent tens of millions more this century) and came second last year. I guess there is no point trying to back up an opinion then, I should flaunt my opinion like it's gospel with generic phrases like "he's had backing" or "he's spent loads".
To say he hasn't delivered prior to this season is skipping over my time spent nit picking
. He hasn't delivered this season - fair enough. He got this year's transfers wrong - again, fair enough. But any sane Liverpool fan would call everything up until this season progress. Maybe even punching above our weight a little if you can manage to forget our history prior to 1991.
I would agree that last year we over achieved a bit (even though a page or two back I'm sure you said we hadn't) but this year we've massively under achieved. The real standard of our side is somewhere between the two and just about in the top four imo. Whether we can perform to that level for the rest of this season is another question.

I remember a Gerrard interview early on in the season when he said we were at our best when the leash was taken off us as proved in the last few months of last season. I think Rafa has almost gone back to his first couple of seasons mentality being v defensive.
I think most Liverpool fans well the ones i see would just love to see us let loose and attack teams, not play 4 full backs, not play defensive midfielders at home etc etc......
Im a bit calmer than last night but i still want him to go.
Ive just seen the table and im amazed that were only 4 points off 4th!

Really? I think if he'd been more defensive-minded this season we'd have more points than we do now - and we'd probably still be in the CL. However, all the fans were calling for an attack-minded focus, and Rafa obviously had an eye on building a squad to do just that. Unfortunately, this season it's not worked - dramatically.

Whats ya thoughts on line ups for Wed night?
Reina
Carragher
Srktel
Agger
Aurelio
Kuyt / Maxi
Aqualani
Mascherano
Lucas
Reira
Jones / Ngog / Kuyt
Got a feeling that he will play the two wide men and play Auerlio at left back to counter Lennon playing as Aurelio is more defensive minded than Insua.

If Insua plays that would be good for Spurs. So I'd hope to see Aurelio at left back too. Would be good to see Reira back on the right, somehow seems to make the whole team more balanced.
Whatever side is picked, it's our cup-final for the season imo.

Any final news on Jones?
Could be an instant hero coming on late on Wednesday and scoring the winner infront of the Kop.

Nothing definite as yet as far as I know, but all the papers saying that it's pretty much done.
A good signing in my opinion, and what we need right now.

Sunderland say he's not leaving.
So expect his arrival at Liverpool to be announced anytime soon...

Kyrgiakos has to play,he was MOM on Saturday against Stoke imo.Plus,Defoe+Keane started up front for Spurs against Hull so that means Crouch will def be starting on Wednesday so Kyrgiakos will be needed to handle him.
Ngog was invisible at the weekend so i'd expect Kuyt to play up front with Maxi making his full debut from the start,he has played an almost full season for Atletico so far so he is match fit.

Apologies as I have not read the whole 50 odd pages of this thread, but what is it with Liverpool fans continual support for Rafa and the ridiculous claim that they have 'over achieved' under his management.
He has taken a good top 4 side who had just won the UEFA cup, spent much more than just about any other manager, and has not won anything for four years?
Apart from a lucky champions league win and a good run last year for 2nd, I do not see that the team is any better than it was under Houllier.

For real?! Seriously Dan i really think he's gone backwards this season, ive watched most of our games and its like our creative players first instruction is to make sure you dont get caught out defensively. Just let them express themselves!
Anyway i still want him to go.
