Definitely fills a whole in the left-hand side, and can always slot in as a other striker.
Wages were always going to be high with no signingion fee.

"I want to play in a more central position and I want a manager who has faith in me."
Mmm, not sure that's where he'll be playing for Liverpool most of the time...

Cole has quoted as saying one of the reasons he had left Chelsea is so he can play in a more central role elsewhere

Cole has quoted as saying one of the reasons he had left Chelsea is so he can play in a more central role elsewhere Which makes Liverpool a very interesting choice. Maybe Roy has told him that he's going to be playing in the hole behind Torres, and Gerrard is going to be in the middle with Aquilani... Same as Benny Noon going to Chelsea if he's under the impression he'll be getting a lot more starts there (of course, I could be wrong and he might start every game).

Is it silly of me to presume they would have talked about that before he signed?

That's what we're saying. Liverpool have been looking for someone to play on the left (where there is a need for a creative and attacking player), and it seemed that Cole had been drafted in to fill that role. With what he's said, maybe he hasn't been brought in to play on the left, or he's been told he's going to be used in both roles. We'll find out when the season starts I guess.

LOL. Riera showed signs of being what we needed, but failed to deliver consistently. Seemed to lack stamina and the ability to put in the effort defensively on a regular basis. This was magnified by the fact that it was often Insua behind him who definitely needed some help defensively. Maybe he'll do better under the new boss, assuming he's part of his plans.

Cole has quoted as saying one of the reasons he had left Chelsea is so he can play in a more central role elsewhere the reason he left chelsea is that they wouldnt pay him what he wanted, nor would arsenal and nor would spurs, thats why he's gone to liverpool anyone else thinks otherwise is seriously dilluded. tottenham would have been a better choice for him where he woulda had champions league football and redknapp would have played him regularly in a position he likes but for £30k less a week it wasnt happening! a good signing for liverpool if they can keep the other big names around him but no messiah like the media like to report lol

Riera didn't do enough for me. Useful for sure but thinks he's in Barcas 433 and doesn't need to track back. Looks like he's off to Olympiacos for £5m.
