Is Konchesky worth getting excited about? All this talk about Konchesky (Surely not a top team player but a solid squad player) makes me think the standard has been dropped way too much for Liverpool to be a top 4 team again...especially when Man City get a new manager (does anyone still think Mancini is the right man for the job/will be in the job much longer?) or start to gel.
Not sure anyone's excited about him. It's an improvement on Insua, Aurelio is made out of egg-shells, and playing Agger there is definitely not the solution. So it's a pragmatic signing rather than an exciting one. I think he's competent enough though, and we'll be a stronger side with him in the XI. It will hopefully mean that Skrtel gets a rest from the first XI as well. Carragher and Agger
(or Kyrgiakos for that matter)
are a far better pairing imo.
I've been thinking that myself lately, Kyrgiakos looks very solid evrytime he plays and Skrtel looks like a disaster waiting to happen everytime he plays, how he didnt give away a pen against WBA i do not know, thank god that Andy Goldstein lookalike ref must have hand blinkers on or something.

Home grown players are defined as those who irrespective of nationality or age, have been affiliated to the FA or Welsh FA for a period of three seasons or 36 months prior to their 21st birthday.
This is the squad Liverpool have submitted today:
Home grown players
Jamie Carragher
Joe Cole
Stephen Darby
Steven Gerrard
Glen Johnson
Brad Jones
Paul Konchesky
Jay Spearing
Non home grown players:
Daniel Agger
Fabio Aurelio
Ryan Babel
Milan Jovanovic
Dirk Kuyt
Sotirios Kyrgiakos
Lucas Leiva
Raul Meireles
Christian Poulsen
Pepe Reina
Maxi Rodriguez
Martin Skrtel
Fernando Torres
Clubs can supplement their squads with an unlimited amount of players under the age of 21, meaning Roy Hodgson will also be able to call on the services of Peter Gulacsi, Martin Kelly, Daniel Wilson, Jonjo Shelvey, Daniel Pacheco, Nathan Eccleston and David Ngog for Barclays Premier League games this season.
This squad list applies to Barclays Premier League games only.

When the midfield used to consist of Sissoko 22, Alonso 24, Mascherano 23 and Gerrard 26 and I look at it now I'm just depressed at how far backwards we've gone. Potentially world class to slightly better than average in 3 years.

How on earth can Liverpool be the only team to only have submitted a list of 21 players? Surely that means you're not deep enough?
Also, why didn't Liverpool go in for VD Vaart? Seeing a player of that caliber (even though I'm not his biggest fan) go for £8mill surely means Liverpool should have had a shot, no?

A few didn't fill the squad as with the 21's they didn't need to. Chelsea named 19 according to this.

So shitty scouting/ and not keeping in touch with other clubs was the issue, really.

The report I read said he was going to Bayern for £18mill but that deal fell apart and Spurs were informed he was available for £8mill at 4pm on deadline day. I guess Madrid rang Chelsea who said no then rang Spurs and didn't bother ringing anyone else as there wasn't enough time.

We weren't in for VDV as 18 mil was way out of our range. Only clubs who had shown an interest were told he could then go for 8m.
