Was exceptionally bad yesterday.  Him, Maxi and Torres are awful at keeping possession.  Far too many passes go to the other side.

We've never had a midfield that consists of those 4.

Kuyt was missed yesterday, and Meireles' introduction for Lucas (with Gerrard dropping back into midfield) showed how we should be lining up in the future.  Lucas is ok defensively, but needs two or three touches and dwells on the ball for far too long to be of any offensive use.

A narrow midfield and two holding players. Probably the worst combination possible.

I cant even defend this decision with an upcoming CL game which I could mostly under Rafa or even Houllier. Sort it the f*ck out Roy.

Jovanovic needs dropping 2 weeks ago. Give me awful Babel any day (with the odd wonder goal) over that dross.

Joe Cole is going to have to play wide when he comes back. It's for the good of the team.

It'd be nice to see the difference. I still think people massively over rate the guy, though. I'm starting to resign myself to being disappointed. Hopefully I eat my words.

Summary of last night's game for those who missed it:

Woy puts out a much weakened side to face Steaua Bucharest at Anfield, resting the likes of Gerrard, Torres, Carragher, but playing Cole, Reina, and others who 'should' be more than good enough.
Joe Cole is gifted the ball by a Steaua player on the edge of their box and he finishes with aplomb within 30 seconds of the start.
Steaua no mugs, and after 20 minutes some poor defending and a crisp passing-exchange sees Steaua equalise.

Half-time comes with the two sides very even.

Kyrgiakos goes down dramatically and earns Liverpool a very soft penalty.  N'gog despatches it very confidently.
Some great passing, contrasted by some awful passing. Sums Liverpool up to be honest, and highlights why Spearing will never be a great player.  His passing is woeful at times, although off the ball his terrier-like tenacity is excellent and that side of his game is excellent.
Babel still flatters to deceive.  Definitely has the talent, just can't produce it when needed.  Reminds me of Audley Harrison.
Liverpool taking control of the game, but Steaua are still a threat.
Lucas who's come on as a sub scores a 'Gerrard special' from 25-yards.  Game over.  The win is made even more emphatic when N'gog scores his second of night in the dying moments.  Slightly flattering to Liverpool.

Meireles is going to be some player for Liverpool, imo.  Please let him take corners and free-kicks though, as we're useless at them usually and were again last night, even without Gerrard taking them and finding the first man in the defence.

Looking forward to manu at the weekend.
