Hodgson hasn't got a good recent history for away league wins? Errr he was manager of Fulham in the EPL. Should Fulham expect lots of away league wins? Nah, they see any away league point as a successful result. And on that note Hodgson got lots of away league points. So the guy was coaching his team to perform at optimum level. Does he think optimum at Liverpool is the same as optimum at Fulham? Course he doesn't. So I think it's lame to point to Hodgson's record at coaching players optimally at Fulham and suggest it proves what he can achieve at Liverpool if he coaches those players equally well.

Fernando Torres is absent after his wife went into labour.
Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Konchesky, Skrtel, Kyrgiakos, Meireles, Lucas, Kuyt, Maxi, Babel, Ngog. Subs: Jones, Kelly, Aurelio, Poulsen, Cole, Jovanovic, Shelvey.
All the best Mr and Mrs Torres

Anyone reckon it's worth giving Jovanovic a go up front? Played there a few times for club and country. Babel's had a few chances and never really shone, i would have given him a go and see how he does. There is talk of him leaving because he can't get in the team. Seems a shame to let him go before seeing what he can do.

Errr his away record in general is woeful. Errr his win ratio at large clubs is woeful.

Apparently Hodgson doesn't rate him/thinks he's terrible. He's not far wrong.

Pepe Reina 100 clean sheets in less games than Clemence in just 198 games.

Villa were very poor - so it's a bit easy to get excited with our performance last night.
However, I thought Lucas and Meireles were excellent in the middle and ran the show well. Babel still frustrates the hell out of me with his decision-making, but at least he put the effort in last night and if he works hard that's 75% of his failings dealt with.
Thought the third goal was excellent. Right from Pepe's throw to Maxi, the interchange and running of Maxi and Ngog and then the precision finish.
Newcastle next.

Not sure if he's the best, but up there with them definitely. Most consistent we've had for a long time.

Think you will give us a hiding this week. I actually quite like Liverpool atm, think Lucas is really underrated, gl for rest of season too.

I wouldn't back us to give anyone a hiding. We're so Jekyll and Hyde at the moment, Wigan embarrassed us, yet we played well against Chelsea and again last night (although Villa looked terrible).
As for Lucas being underrated, I don't think that's the case. At times he can appear to be useless at going forward, always resorting to a negative pass or needing 5 touches before he can make a pass. However, more recently he's improved immensely and his offensive passing is getting better and better (dare I say, more like a Brazillian!). Defensively, he is also growing into a better player. Maybe not having to play alongside Mascherano is helping him? Maybe it's Roy starting to get the most out of him? Whatever it is, it's more than welcome
