Rafa bought some very good Spanish players - Pepe, Alonso, Garcia, Arbeloa and that fella Torres.

There's talk that Blackburn centre-back Phil Jones is now in talks with manu, and won't be joining Liverpool.  There's lots of talk about all sorts though as it's transfer rumour silly-season, so not sure how much truth is in it.  Must admit, he looks the part to help shore up our central defence.

how much does a proven centre back cost nowadays? just seen that we've done a £2 million deal with arse for carl jenkinson. that's for a kid with only 8 league 1 games under his belt. crazy stuff

I'm not sure, but heard figures of £8-10M for Jones.

Is there any Sunderland fans on here? People who've actually seen Henderson in action on a regular basis? seems to be alot of ppl hating and yet they prob have not even seen the lad play apart from a few snippets on MOTD.

Conclusive proof of a player's ability can only be found on a YouTube compilation video that lasts a minute or two:

With Ngog going the other way it leaves us a little short in the striker department.

Id love to see a bid for Daniel Sturidge. Proven EPL goalscorer, young and English. Rumours that he was going to be part of the Torres deal.

It seems at the moment that the youth adds a lot of value.
15mil for Phil Jones and a similar amount for Cahill I would imagine. Cahill is (imo) a lot better and not old but he is 6 years older. In 7 yrs time Cahill's value is more likely to be minimal wheras Jones could still be commanding the same fee you paid. He could also be on 20k a week less than Cahill saving you 1.3mil a season.

That seems to be the logic.

Downside is you have a worse player currently but suppose you have to weigh that up with how necessary the signing is.

Looks like he is going to Man U now. Jones + Smalling could go on to play together for 10+ years but would still get a decent fee in 5/6 years depending on form, progress, injuries etc

On a side note Jones + Smalling together could be good for England. Will play together this Summer at U21's then be team mates. Rio won't last too long or certainly won't play full seasons so learn from Vidic as well as possibility of forming a good partnership.

We have Carroll, Suarez, Kuyt in the first XI from last year as 'strikers', with plenty of others who can play in the 'hole' - such as Maxi, Gerrard, Mereiles.  Then there are the young lads to come through as well, some of them are looking like they could breakthrough soon.  Ngoo for one shouldn't have a problem in terms of size, he's a big unit.

If we buy another 'quality' striker are they going to be happy sitting on the bench 99% of the time?

Can never trust the rumours that come out of Old Trafford till their money is on the table

DeGea 16.5m
Jones 16m
young 20m
CM to replace Scholes 20-35m if Schneider.

Cant see Man Utd having/spending this amount of money, would be a break from recent transfer policy. If they do id make them strong favs for next years title.

I never said he was garbage, one of there better players, that's not hard though.

Just seems Liverpool seem to be paying prices for players that they would be worth if they reached there highest potential but nowhere near what they're currently worth. All English players are ridic overpriced which is absurbed since most aren't as good as there foreign opposition, who are cheaper.
