Devil's advocate here, I thought Kenny was right to bench Carroll.

I think they would have wanted us to play Carroll and engage them in a hoof ball contest as opposed to playing against smaller trickier opponests running the channels etc...

Obv we still lost but I have no qualms with the team selection.

No, was going to ask if you'd think we'd have performed worse (especially dealing with the multiple crosses and corners Adam was bombarding the box with) with Carroll on the pitch?

Also, I'd have started with Carroll for what he adds defensively from corners and set pieces against Stoke - although he wasn't required in the end for this.

Impossible to say Kin, hindsight is in play now, I didn't know we would have them pinned in their half for the last 45mins.

All i was saying was pre match I was happy with the line-up and thought we would win and felt more comfortable when I saw that AC was on the bench, even Boldie liked it he said we were certs after seeing the line up!

It's not just Stoke tho, we play better football imo without the big man, he needs to sharpen up.

I'm not talking with hindsight, I was saying before the game that:

1. We'll have lots of possession in midfield. That won't be an issue.
2. Stoke will park the bus defensively, and be tough to break down.
3. We will be getting a lot of crosses into their box, and surely Carroll is the best target man for this (imo).
4. Stoke will be a threat from set pieces, and Carroll is an asset defensively in this area against the height of Stoke.

I also think it's harsh to criticise Carroll's lack of consistency when he's not getting consistent pitch time. Some matches the line up from yesterday would be fine. I just thought against Stoke it made sense to have Carroll on the pitch from the start alongside Suarez, and sacrifice a midfielder - probably Henderson.
