The arseblog piece is a decent read, and, given that Suarez is a serial biter, and a very committed player on the pitch it would suggest that the work done with and for him by Liverpool since the Chelsea incident was outstanding.

Hats off to Brendan Rodgers and his team.

The arseblog perspective is pretty accurate.

As another aside to this whole thing. Suarez has been banned from playing for Liverpool for a period of time. Whether you agree or disagree with that isn't important in the next point I'm going to make.

Liverpool haven't been involved in any appeal process, nor with any submission of evidence to FIFA. That's fine you might say, as he was representing Uruguay not Liverpool when it happened. But as his ban affects Liverpool, shouldn't they be involved in the process? What if Uruguay decide to appeal and the ban is extended further so he misses more club games?

I can't think of an analogous situation, but the process seems all to cock.

If someone has two jobs and gets convicted of a crime they committed whilst working in one, seems fair for the other employer to be able to say something at sentencing?

I can't believe that, if Liverpool had made a statement (publically or to FIFA) about its views on the possible punishment, it would have been completely ignored. Don't get me wrong, it would have been unlikely to have changed the outcome, but I am not convinced Liverpool have been denied the opportunity to have its voice heard.

Liverpool had no choice in having to let players go on international duty, if now players can get banned from club football for what happens when on international duty watch how many clubs get there players to "retire" from international football

Good. Let's only have people playing for their country who want to play for their country. Shouldn't be paid to play IMO anyway (expenses covered, but not wages)

Wanting to play and being able to play totally different if you have options of playing for top team on 300k a week but no international football or 30 k a week but play for your country as much as I love Scotland I will be taking the 300k no matter how much I want to play for country. If club sides start banning players from playing for internationals people won't watch and World Cup will be a farce

They get paid plenty from sponsorship deals tied up with the international appearances.  Bet Joe Hart couldn't wait to get home from the World Cup to count his sponsorship cheques.

I would happily bet his total sponsorship cheques from the world cup would be less than a standard month's salary.  It really is peanuts.  He wont be getting more than £100k from head and shoulders for that campaign.

£25M is a lot.  Good player, but £25 is a hell of a lot and a bit of a gamble imo.

I assume Hart is on at least £125k a week at Man City (maybe £150k) as England goalkeeper on a team who's average salary is similar across the whole squad per decent financial reports into sport.  I will let you explain where you think Hart has made £600k in sponsorships relating purely to the WC.
