just a question on cash games tony

you mnetioned weeding and i know thats unacceptable

but if you were to order something from bar or food would it be unacceptable to pay for that and tip the valet with chips infront of you?

I have no problem with paying for food and drink or tipping the dealers or waitress from your stack. In some way i just see it as an expense of the game.

I once got completely blasted for doing this..paid 1£ for a bottle of water and used my stack (from the 2-2 dealers choice game) to pay for it...and I mean shouted at by the other players..I had 800£ in front of mebut that 1£ made all the difference.

I am with you though..it's an expense of the game..220£ for next nights buy-in however surely isn't.

I had Egg Benedict there last night at about 9pm, it was beautiful, as was the Egg Bendict I had at Midnight, just so Kev would not feel alone eating his. The Egg Benedict I had at 2am was not quite so good though - it tasted a bit "samey".

Red had something callled french Toast - fried egg, bacon, & maple syrup. Mmmmmmm.

I reckon I spend on average £20 to £25 a night at DTD on food & drink - & it's worth every penny, it's freshly prepared (not in a microwave), piping hot, & served promptly. I am quite happy to pay for my drinks & food in those circumstances. Catering is a good Profit Centre if done properly, & I'm sure Rob is earning a few bob via the catering at DTD, as he should. I just hope the Casinos take note - many of us are quite happy to pay top dollar for well-prepared, good quality, food & drink. Which adds grist to the mill for running Poker in Casinos as a Profit Centre - if it's done well.

In a DC Cash Game at DTD last night, I checked the nuts on the end, & that elicited a few tut-tuts & some veiled flaming. I'm not entirely sure what the etiquette is on this.

I'd rivered the nut flush, the pot was, I dunno, about £200, & first to speak made a very weak bet, £50 I think. There were 3 players in the hand behind me, & one of them was a serial tea-leaf, & I had it in mind that he'd interpret the weak bet & my subsequent call as a cue to try & steal it, & I could get some decent value for my hand. But they all folded, & I was left looking a bit silly. And the subject of a few sarcy comments.

I'm really not sure I did anything wrong here. Other than, perhaps - well, certainly - playing it badly.

No problem at all, as you said on Friday, if you are weak passive then you have to do a few things to stop pots being nicked off you. Trap checking the nuts is definately better than putting out that £150 stopper bet when it's almost certain someone else has the nut straight.

Rich EO learned some expensive lessons too. He was going nicely, but Omaha can be cruel, & you are nerver a big favourite going in. He lost a massive pot to DC - I never saw the hand play - & was in bad shape, his £1k+ had dropped to a few hundred. Then, at 6 card Hi-Lo, he rammed with A-2-3-4-5-x. He hit his nut low. And so did TWO others. & he got sixth-ised.

Such is poker.

I got 6thed twice in a row with the nut low though, that was the nightmare. 2nd time I had the wheel but that was no good for high either.

Anyone interested in the hand I lost to DC? I'll post if so, I WAS a big favourite, despite what Tony says :p

I seem to have developed a knack of causing "etiquetty" probs in Cash Games lately, & I did it again last night at dtd big time. I'm a fairly new convert to regular Cash-Games, which arose because diary congestion has (temporarily?) forced my semi-retirement from the 2 day Tourneys I prefer to play.

I made a fairly late exit (by my standards) in the Tourney last night - Level 2 I believe, sigh - & was first on the list for the £5 £5 Dealers Choice game. The game began promptly, a full table, & within 10 minutes, a second £5 £5 Dealers Choice Game had begun.

At first sight, I liked my table, with the exception of Kim Costa, for whom my views are mixed. I struggle to think of a straighter, nicer, bloke in poker, I like & respect him enormously, (and fear him a little I must admit) he's in the Thewy class, & I've not shared a cash table with him for 3 years now, so that was rather nice. But he's seriously good at Cash, rarely has a losing session, but still, never mind, I'll give it a whirl. And promptly lost a £300 Pot to him. I pulled up £300 more, to get me back to £500.

But young Richard arrived, & that changed the dynamics completely. He Raised or Re-Raised Blind every single hand, & it was soon £30 or £200 to see a flop, & £250 or all-in on the next street. Mick McCool was happy to take him on regularly, but I don't like playing that deep pre-flop. I won a £400 Pot, so I'm sat there with £700 now - & all square. Richard pulled up 5 or 6 times, at £500 a pop in the next half an hour, it was bingo-gamble big time, & I was not enjoying it. I wanted to spend 5 or 6 hours playing cash at dtd, & if I got 2 hands wrong, I was busto for the night. In any event, I prefer to play the game with a little more subtetly. But my reasons are not important - the fact is, I regretted being on a table where I could not go the pace, & the other Table, which had by now began, was much better suited to my skills & Bankroll. By the way, I have no issue with the way Richard plays, that's entirely up to him, it's just not my thing. If I had money to burn, I might do the same thing, though burning it would take longer. (I am jesting Richard, honestly). 4 players had to leave early as they went Busto in the manic game.

Having caused - quite rightly I now realise - an upset at Luton a few weeks back by dodgy Cash-Game Etiquette, I was not prepared to upset the dtd applecart, so I asked for the House Rules on moving between identical Tables. "You can move from one to the other at will - and there are three players on the other table who want to get on your Table - you want me to arrange a swap?"" I was informed. "Yes please" say I. I say to the Table, "I am not too comfy here, you boys play too deep for me, I'm gonna move tables, you OK with that?". No problems, no comments, off I go.

Then I start to hear the mutterings - I've upset the table by "trebling up & then moving tables". "Says who, because I only broke even?" I retort. "Richard is moaning about you". So I ask Richard, is there a problem? Nope, he says, "it was not me, it was Bash who was moaning". I ask Bash, same reply, "it was not me moaning, it was so & so". Well that's too bad, I asked everyone to their face, they all said they had no problem with me moving tables & were not moaning, but the titters continued, until Mother Hen was consulted, & he could not see any problem, except "they are moaning that you trebled up & then moved Tables". Such is life, I acted within the House Rules, so there it is.

During the evening, however, several players shifted back & forth between the two tables, & this led to more mutterings. I really don't know the form here, but I hope it does not lead to any bad blood, or the ability to move between identical tables being exploited unreasonably. We shall see. My choice was either move Tables, or go home. I'm not prepared to play for £250 "blind" every hand, & that's that. I was on the wrong table - for me - ful stop.

I stayed at the other Table for 8 hours, until it closed at 6am, & won a 4 figure sum, very nice. But I never enjoyed the aggro much.

I never saw "the big hand" between you & DC, Rich, but you are almost NEVER a big favourite (going in) in Omaha.
