My football correspondent (Who BTW is culture personified) has been woefully quiet, one might even say moribund, on my diary of late. perhaps our team isn't doing so well..

Au contraire.

We won our group in the Champion's League qualifying with a game to spare unlike some others.

In the Premier league we've recovered from a poor start and are on a great run.

We seem to be running a little low on full-backs with our top four all injured but appear to be coping.

Prepare yourself and all of the other karma-chameleons for regular updates from now on.

Great post, unfortunate destination.

Tom!

This may well be the first - & last - time I'll ever get the better of you in verbal jousting, so I'm going to enjoy this unique opportunity, & wring every ounce of pleasure from it. Please pardon my evident satisfaction.

I agree, your Diary is a better destination.

But in all things, most especially life in general - what matters, where the pleasure comes from, is not so much the destination, as the journey.

1-0, by KO, 5 seconds into the first round. All agreed? Yeah, thought so.

By way of a little contrition on my part, however, here's an example of a wonderful journey.....

Read the very first sentence, & you'll be hooked.

Alternatively, for those who are culture personified, try this......

"This may well be the first - & last - time I'll ever get the better of you in verbal jousting"

This after your shameful "These topics should be on my diary" comments. Purlease...

I haven't even knuckled up to my metaphorical vamplate yet.

Now that IS punnage of the highest quality.

You may stay.

Typing quickly on a blackberry.

Would have taken more care if posting on my superior and more cultured diary where we don't talk about trains and cement.

I would apologise but I was trying to get you a few more views. Not long before me and that alex chap overtake you.

You have a Diary? I'll take a gander. No Hand Histories there, I'm assuming?

Alex? Alex who?

OK, enough nonsense, back to basics.

Am in the Newgate Hotel, Newcastle. When opened, it was a "Swallow".

It's a wonderful example of how hotel design, & especially bedroom design, has changed in the 42 years since it opened. For the better.

"Old" Hotels are lovely, I adore them, so are new ones. 42 year old ones, not so much.

The Heating will be installed next year, I gather, & for 2015, wifi in the rooms is planned.

The Monte Carlo is next weekend Tony so your bag might still be at risk.

Bloody hell, wrong again. Did they move it? (Just say yes).

I was supposed to meet a chap there, so I wrote & cancelled. One of us got the weeks mixed up, now I have to write to him & apologise, & reset everything.

Still saved a bag though - am working next Sunday.

Scotland pics of the storm, pic 13 shows a wind turbine catching fire due to the 165mph winds.

I get more pleasure from photo galleries than almost anything else, so thank you for that.

If anyone has any photo galleries of interest, please Post them up, photos say so much. Every picture tells a story, & all that.

We are but a few weeks from a bountiful harvest of photo galleries - the "Best of 2011" selections. The Boston News (?) usually heads the field, Bongo usually finds them for me, or "reigns" Kinboshi, but as the internet gathers pace, there are more & more of them now.

Bring 'em on, please, can't wait.

I wonder why the wind turbine caught fire? Not to be silly, but was it "whizzing round" due to the gale force winds? Surely not? They must "damp" those things, no?

They are supposed to have brakes, but they do occasionally fail. When this one finally lets go (about 17s in), it's quite impressive.

Presume similar happened to the Scottish one, but failure mode was slightly different.

I don't know diddly-squat about how those things work, but I love them. They are graceful, & seem to say "yes, someone DOES care about our environment & energy issues".

I'm a little surprised that one failed in Scotland during a gust of not more than 165 mph. Would they not be designed to withstand "one in a 100 year" storms? Or was yesterday's super super breeze such an event?

Is there not a failsafe, to switch off, or "park", the fan, in very high winds?

Any chance of a repeat? When unoccupied, obv.

I'm a tolerant soul with freebies, but by any standards, it's pretty dire. Nice & close to Aspers though!

Would be funny if I actually had a power to delete posts (which I should have imo).

Quite curious to know where, & on whom, you would start........

I studiously avoid reading Posts by some Members (& they, mine, I'm quite sure), I can almost predict the banality & content, never original, whereas I avidly search out every single Post of some Members - let us use AndrewT as a neutral example of the latter.

Each to their own & everything.
