I was channel flicking the Sports Channels, & caught a bit of the World Superbikes, then, as "fill", they showed some footage from the Dundalk Road Race. Jeez, that stuff is super scary.

The race was won by this chap, so I had to look him up.

Quite an amazing interview, this.

Those Dundalk Road Races are just the scariest thing ever, whizzing past telegraph poles & trees at 200 mph, with no safety barriers or guard rails. Respect to those lads, so brave.

If you found him interesting then look up Guy Martin.
He does plenty of motorbike racing, also a mechanic that likes fixing large machines, trains and such!!

Animal photos of the week: A murmuration of starlings (PA) http://fw.to/oSNN6qP

Seen a few of these over the years at Slimbridge but the funniest sight was a group of crows who appeared to look at the starlings and think they were showing off so up they fly in quite a tight little group (which is unusual for Crows) looks quite impressive until they decide to do the first turn. Then we have crows flying off in all different directions some appear to notice that they had got it wrong and tried to regroup others just give up. Those that regroup are all dispersed after a couple of more turns. Starlings must have been in hysterics.

Still also impressive to watch an individual crow taking on a buzzard they don't give up and the buzzard is not quick enough at flipping over to catch the crow, could watch it for hours.

Haha! love that description.

We have quite a few buzzards around here, but the crows won't let any of them settle in the best trees.

I do have a soft spot for crows, they get a bad press (the full name does not help).

Used to get woken up by a family of crows when we lived in Somerset as they would sit on the neighbours fence and shout until we came out and put food on the bird table when they had young.

On the 3000th edition of Desert Island Discs.

Wow at that, thank you Tonji.

People MUST read that wiki page.

Any Wiki page that includes this is a must read.....

He flew aircraft from Britain, the United States, Germany, Italy and Japan and is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as holding the record for flying the greatest number of different aircraft. The official record is 487, but includes only basic types. For example Captain Brown flew fourteen (14) versions of the Spitfire and Seafire and although these versions are very different they appear only once in the list. The list includes only aircraft flown by Brown as 'Captain in Command'.

Because of the special circumstances involved, he doesn't think that this record will ever be beaten.

He also holds the world's record for the most carrier landings, 2,407, partly compiled in testing the arrestor wires on more than twenty aircraft carriers during World War II.

Whilst Tonji is here, with his specialist skiing knowledge, did anyone see this extraordinary story?

Mind-boggling, to think she couild get away with it.

Bit sad, really, too.

I guess her fame & wealth eased the way to manipulate officials to achieve her vanity sporting ambitions that far exceeded any talent.

Interesting quote on the bbc story, that the americans gave someone the job to beat his carrier record he got to 1600 before he had a nervous breakdown!

Must apololgise for the lack of my replies over the past few weeks. Had a bit of a challenging time, one way & another. Quite exciting, in parts, quite testing in other ways.

Anyway, the best/worst is sorted now.

Been a little under the weather, too, but am better now, so much so that I've resumed smoking. Ridiculous, really.

Anyway, I'll catch up on replies as soon as I can - especially as to Corvids. Love them. Cleverest things ever, them.

The next UKPC was announced yesterday, which has been exercising me somewhat, & continues so to do, but we are pretty much sorted now, bar a few things to tie up with Rob, & as to (or not) TV Coverage.

One more "project" is in the oven, not really my project, but I'm the sort of go-between & translator between the Business & the poker world. Different languages, see? Anyway, that one goes public next Thursday, then the real work starts. Fun work, mind.

This lad got the lot in last year's UKPC. I can honestly say, I've never had a stack like that in my life. Shame it took me so long to realize I'm poo at poker, but I had a ton of fun along the road. Now I just nut-peddle £5 & £10 SNG's, & making a couple of hundo per month seems the best I can manage. I have never enjoyed it more, though.
