Paul Alterman is in town, playing today's WSOP $1,500 NLH.
He never seems to age, he looks younger than he did 10 or 12 years ago.

It's Independence Day here in the USA, which, it seems to me, is celebrated by 2 things - fireworks, & Nathan's Hot Dog Eating contest.
Unsurprisingly, the Hot Dog Contest winner was Joey Chestnut, who has won 9 of the last 10 renewals.
He managed - in 10 minutes - 72 Hot Dogs, including the buns. That'll be 20,160 calories.
He came to the contest in great form, too, having just last month won the World Ice Cream Sandwich Eating Championship. He got through 25.25 Ice Cream Dessert Delights in 6 minutes, but it went to a tie-breaker which he duly won.
This, of course, is serious business, & is sanctioned by MLE - Major League Eating.
MLE run all sorts of Eating contests, look;
http://www.majorleagueeating.com/contests.php
The Hot Dog thing is broadcast live on ESPN, who boast that they syndicate the show to 72 countries. Presumably that excludes the likes of Bangladesh & large parts of Africa.
I am not making any of this stuff up. It's real.
If you have never watched a Hot dog Eating contest, look away now, it's the most obscene & disgusting thing you ever saw.
The whole thing is abhorrent, but then again, I cant help watching it.
Here's Joey in action today.
If you happen to bump into him, Jesse May is a connoisseur of this 'sport', knows a lot about it as a 'fan'.
Thanks Barry.
Why does that not surprise me?
I've not seen him here this year.
Prompted by your mention of Jesse May, I last saw him on March 12th, & I was mightily shocked to hear he now has a proper 9-5 Day Job.
I cannot think of too many folk I thought less likely to get a proper job. Who'd have thought?
I'm not sure of his exact role, but he works for Matchbook these days.
I wish him well, of course I do, but somehow it feels like a disappointment that such an adventurous roving spirit has come across to the dark side & got himself a proper job.
What next - Camel get a job with Ladbrokes, or Sky Bet?
Funny you mention it but last time I saw Jesse he was working full time for PokerStars of all people, that was a couple of years back, which I also found very odd. I see Jesse the same way as you, a Hunter S Thompson type.

Consolation prize in the seat draw.
8 hands per format, in rotation, starting with PLO.
Only faces recognised too far are Dave Barnes and Mel Judah.
Only 25 runners at kick off.
Tough table by the look of it.
Off we go.

One level in, just 45 entries, needing 100 to make Guarantee.
My table is insanely aggro, and I have Doobs mate, Miami John Cernuto, to my immediate left on sentry duty.
Jeff Duvall just arrived on adjacent table.
We have seen numerous multi way all ins on this table already. Deffo a seat belt job, this could get real bumpy. 3 players on this table BUSTO already. Think most are playing it as a 2 bullet job.
18,200 from 15,000 starting.

Big Pot Alert.
Big O.
We have, on our button:
And see this purler of a flop, 4 way;
SB bets, everyone calls, I pot it, one caller, Ukraine.
Turn is an off suit J.
He checks, I bet three quarters of pot. I really want to build the pot here with 3 nut draws..
He calls.
River pairs the board, another 6, and my man sets me in.
Bloody Nora.
Have to fold.
Ukraine flashes the 6.
9,350 from 15,000.

Good luck today!
Congrats on the Golf win Ralph.

First break, and the deck is beating us up a treat, with blinds going 150-300 we have 25 Bigs. Time to widen the ranges.
Still having a mini sulk over missing all those outs in that big pot earlier.
Just 68 entries after 3 levels, but everyone will gamble until late reg closes, so it might yet make guarantee.

Ha, no idea how it missed, all those outs twice and I still could not do a get.
Never mind, that's the game.

At last, patience rewarded.
Nut nut and get called by 2nd 2nd for a SCOOPIO and full 2xUp.
Right back in this now with 50 Bigs, average is only 60 Bigs.

Big O, dealt double suited Aces with 2-3-5.
Dealer then starts to deal everyone a 6th card. Mis deal.
