I think the waters between fiction and non-fiction can be a little muddy.
It's not always a case of fiction = stories = bollox = worthless
and non-fiction = fact = usefull

No-one wants to read an autobiography unless it's Jordan or Wayne Rooney, but a lot of writers create popular works of fiction that are inspired by events in their or someone elses lives.  Other writers write satirical pieces that are obviously fictional, but have nevertheless been acknowledged as being not that far from reality (eg comedy series The Thick of It)

Then your non fiction, there's a lot of artistic licence taken so that things fall into an entertaining narrative. (and there's a fine line between artistic licence and out and out bollox) A lot of people with some kind of personal or politcal agenda write in the sphere of "non fiction" but their books contain not much in the way of fact.

There can be more truth in the fictional works of Willy Russel or Roddy Doyle as to what life is like for their subjects than some "non fiction" book about what it's like to work on Wall Street, or a biography of Winston Churchill where he has homosexul affairs with Hollywood leading men.

Yes, a lot of "non-fiction" is embellished to the point of being near-fiction.

"Papillon" is a perfect example.

I may try to wean myself on to Fiction, but there are so many excellent non-fiction books around, they are a bit "down the list" for me.

I love Autobiographies &, in particular, "Diaries", too.

No, it's assumed to be of limited duration. Let's say until the media love Tiger again. Which, given how fickle they are, won't be that long.

My book would be a large one with blank pages.  I'd keep a diary of sorts and/or write my own fictional stories in it.

The luxury item was a bit more difficult.  With a little bit of effort and creativity, you can make just about everything I thought of.  That said, always threatened, but never got around to learning how to play a guitar...so guitar it is.
