"Coat-tailing".
Bright young Hedge Fund Managers, unable to match his performance, decided to "mirror" Buffet's portfolio, to try to replicate his gains. Which showed how dumb they were, because by then, the value had gone.
Unrelated.
Squeaky clean tthics & morality, plus his "Bank of Reputation" were key to his success. Who'd have thought it, "honesty" eh? Maybe it will come back into fashion one of these days. You don't need to be bent, or do financial engineering, to succeed.

Lastly, & bestly, then I promise, not another Buffett word.
"Invert".
In fact, this was the speciallity of his partner, Charlie Munger, but Warren adopted it, too.
For every proposition ever made to him, every problem that needed a solution, every deal they were offered, their default mindset was to
invert it
.
"If Mr Man wants to
sell
, why would we want to
buy
?"
"Why does this bright, young, honest man, want to sell me his secret to winning at roulette, if it's so good", in it's simplest terms.
Makers of plasters for burnt fingers would go busto if a few more adopted that line.

Whoops. I think I just killed the Diary revival.
So, A-K in early pos, how do we play it?

Hey Tikay. How you been? haven't spoken to you for a while,
I saw a picture of you on Sky and couldn't believe how much weight you've lost
, you looked great -
really impressive discipline
mate something that
only a true nit could do
.
How are you feeling since you've lost it all?
And have you managed to quit smoking yet?
Also when are you arriving in Vegas and where will you be staying?
Sorry for the 21 questions but it has been a while!
Morning Mr Williams.
1) I've been tickity boo, thank you.
2) Remove "discipline", & insert "stubborn", & that's the secret.
3) Yes, I'm a nit, through & through, & proud of it!
4) I'm feeling fantastic, better than I have felt in 30 years I think, physically & mentally. Really, I have extraordinary reservoirs of energy now. Most of us - cerrtainly me - take our bodies for granted, but we only get one, & it behoves us to look after it. Which I only realised a little too late in life. Still, if it buys an extra year or two, that's a result. Which is meaningless if we are 20, or 30 or 40, but at my age, it hits you right between the eyes - "eeek, I need to do something NOW"!
5) I quit smoking when I get back home from Vegas. I'll attack it with the same obsession & stubborn-ness that I did with the weight-loss thing. I enjoy these self-denial processes - the winning of psychological battles, every hour, every day, being the "kick". It does the confidence & self-esteem no harm either, to do these thing without artificial aids or hokum pokum substitute crutches.
6) I arrive Vegas next Thursday. I'll be staying at The Rio. It's the only choice if working, & I really like it there. It's a little town, not a Hotel, & has everything I need.
Let's hook up, I'll have the Sky gang with me. Dan Brown & Ben Nuttall fly out today, the 5 VLV winners fly out 2 days after myself & Attila I think. Ben lost a few bob in that bit of bad business that went off here, but he'll learn from the experience, so it will be a cheap lesson in life for him, & he's not doing the "bittter" thing.
Now, a question for you.
How on
earth
did you let that donkey tilt you up at the Table earlier this week in the Rio?
Forget the Cardroom Manager, that player got the better of you by tilting you up. You are a far better player than that, but when you tilt - & I've never seen you tilt before - he's found a weakness. Show him who's boss by ignoring him, & just play your game. Right?
Are any more of the Swindon Massive out there? Gibbo?
Sparcey is locked in his room in Vegas. He got fed up with Live (WSOP) Poker, so went & purchased two 22" monitors & is playing high-stakes cash 18 hours a day in his room! He played the £1,000 pull-up BIG GAME on SP last Saturday, which we televised in almost real-time, & owned the table as usual, though the old-timer Jakally made a few bob too. Shock of the evening was Sparcey being bullied off a flopped set by Mo Muse, with his 2 pair. Who'd have though that was possible?!
See you next week fella, do please look me up if tiime permits. And dress properly, please, none of those numpty £25 M & S sweaters please, I wanna do some TV stuff with you, & I feel so embarrassed for you when you wear those dodgy sweaters.
x
Hey m8. Thats great news, I wish my Mum had the same attitude you do about health and stuff I've been trying to get her to quit smoking for years I sound just like a broken record to her now though!
I'm here in the Rio too so can definitely hook up with you. Ben told me he invested a while ago and asked me if I had. I told him honestly then I never trusted it from day one there was never any evidence of these wins and I was convinced he would skim the pot without people knowing.
I guess that player got to me because he kept going on and on. At 1st I just thought what a complete Idiot and sort of laughed to myself but he just wouldn't stop. He didn't tilt me in my play but he made me so angry I was ready to kill him lol. I still don't understand his problem even now, he obviously is one of lifes weirdos who gets a kick out of that sort of thing or is just a huge losing player and hates young guys I don't know. I guess maybe If I had been doing well in Vegas so far I wouldn't of got as angry as I did. These $1500 & $1000 side events at the WSOP are so crapshooty, but I guess I have to keep trying and eventually I will run well in one of them.
One member of the Swindon massive will be out here on July the 5th I think, he posts on here as Jack2off he is the man who knows quite a bit about the Oil Shares Desire Petroleum he won his seat with DTD in their live satty on the 31st of May. His name is Dwayne Quinn hes a right character I'll definitely introduce you to him.
I've been keeping up with your Sky blogs when I can and saw your post of the big game, couldn't believe £1000nl was running
sounds like a great game. Muse is a very tough opponent most people think hes a fish but I don't think so, he is so aggro and difficult to play against I can see how he bluffed Sparce, he literally can play any 2 cards.
I'll try to wear something smart for you mate
I might even buy some new clothes before you arrive lol. Also my girlfriend arrives on the same day as you, I wont be playing any poker then but I will come say hello alot during that week!
PS - are you flying BA? If so no chatting up my gf with your quick wits and charms plz
x

Thats a real shame about Richard too Tikay, having met him twice he comes across as one of the most confident people I've ever met his sense of humour is brilliant too! He had me in stitches loads when we were on the show! He seems like a really nice guy so I really hope everything gets sorted for him!

There's the key James, in your own words......
".....I guess maybe If I had been doing well in Vegas so far I wouldn't of got as angry as I did......"
Take a little break for a few days, it'll do you good.
No, not flying BA, Virgin, me. Surprised your g/f is not.
Mo Muse - not wrong, he's tough to beat, because he's fearless. Sparcey had 5-5, flop was 4-5-6, Mo had 5-7. Turn was the 7, to give Mo 2 pair, & when he shoves there, I believe he thinks his hand is good. It's tough to call there, too.
OK, gotta go drum up some runners for tonight's £220 Biggie on SP. I'd have thought that was right up your street.
See you next week.
PS - DTD ONLINE, PLAY THERE!

He'll be OK, Rent-A-Shoulder are on the case.
His on-screen personna is totally different to behind the scenes. On screen, he's incredibly confident & gifted, imo. So we assume he is the same in private life, but he's not. One of nature's gentlemen, & full of kindness.

EVERY decent footballer wore one. It was almost mandatory. The medical evidence was overwhelming - they aided breathing. Don't argue, it WAS so. The Sports Equipment suppliers told us so.
So what happened to nasal strips?
I've not seen a single "nasal strip" in football for some time now. Did the craze just die? Were the boffins proved wrong?
Weren't they replaced by people putting the Olbas Oil gel stuff on the chest of their shirts?

Tony,
I might have mentioned this book to you before but try to get a copy of a book called 'The smart money' by Michael Konik to read on your Vegas trip, most of it set there and recalls seasons of sports betting by the smarts on US sports and how hard they find it to get on. It gives a great insight into something you touched on above, the mental side of doing something successfully and keeping it going for a long period of time without it bringing you down.
Mr Konik is a really interesting character too, he is an accomplished musician and author, has played on late night poker and writen gambling/sports stories for big US mags for decades.

Well my "an hour a day on blonde & the Diary" never did very well, I missed yesterday, as hard as I tried, I just could not quite manage it. There are just not enough hours in the day. And I fill the ones I have to the very brim. I suppose it's about "priorities", but more likely I'm just not very organised or disciplined.
So, a double dose today.
You have been warned, incoming tosh.

Thanks Phil. I Wiki'd him - he is exctly the sort of guy whose musings might interest me.
It depends on how well he writes, I guess, but the subject matter is right on the money.
He wrote, Wiki tells us.....
The Man with the $100,000 Breasts and other Gambling Stories (1999)
Nice Shot, Mr. Nicklaus: Stories About the Game of Golf (2000)
Telling Lies and Getting Paid (2002)
In Search of Burningbush: A Story of Golf, Friendship, and the Meaning of Irons (2004)
Ella in Europe: An American Dog’s International Adventure (2005)
The Smart Money (2006)
Some of which look a bit tacky, (I shall deffo swerve the first one), but most look worth a gander. Quite a character, by the look of it.
So to Bobby & Jon, thanks for the suggestions. I doubt I'll find these in the Airport Bookshop though. Looks like I'll revive a recently-lapsed, but lifetime habit of a twice yearly homage to the Charing Cross Road bookshops. I generally come away with 2 bags full of books & £400 or £500 lighter, but books are such a treasure, & I doubt anything in life has given me better value, education, or widened my mind, as books.
I must do something about the reduction in eyesight I am enduring, though, as if my eyes get much worse, reading will be kind of difficult. Guess I just need stronger bins, but I wonder how far the detorioration will go? Anyway, it is what it is, not much I can do to arrest it.

Warmest welcome, & many thanks, to our three new Mods.
I wish them well, & fancy they will give us a new width & dimension.
Hard to explain why they would want to do it, or accept the invite, but some peeps just do those sort of "Community" things, & all three have a long history of supporting blonde in various ways, much of it under the radar.
