Sir David's wiki page. Not so many individuals have been so frequently honoured, or so deservedly.

Imagine how wonderful to be in his shoes, & look back on his life's achievements.

Pretty sure he would rather be 65 years younger, and be able to have a bash at it all again.

Interesting little film here - film footage of Las Vegas in 1962.

Wonderful find, Mr T. He has a whole series of "period" stuff on his website, too, well worth a gander.

You & me, too......

Talking of which, Sky Poker recently filmed a sort of 90 minute documentary of my life, from cradle to (not quite, one hopes) grave. I watched it yesterday for the first time, private screening thing, & not sure whether to cringe, or be proud. Bit of both, I suppose, but trying to watch it from "outside" of my mind, it seemed to have a recurring theme - don't give up when 2-0 down, & that a bad childhood can & should help form a strong adult.

Not quite sure what it is doing on a Poker channel, but that's another story.

Sky Poker have given me a few copies for my own use, & I know Tom will enjoy it. Bit precious of me to give it to him as a pressie though, "here you are Tom, look at me" sort of thing, but he understands more than anyone what it all means.

PS - I won 7-6, in extra time.

Story time, tikay.....

The pen was given to me by a chap who works for Airbus, he always brings me an aerospace-based gift to all SPT's, his alias is "minty11".

The pen is, allegedly, made of the same composite carbon-fibre whatsit material as the wings on the soon to fly Airbus 350XWB. (XWB = Xtra Wide Body).

Came in a nice Presentation box, too, with the Airbus Logo across the front.

Got me thinking of the marketing logic of giving freebie pens to hopefully influence airlines to buy a few dozen aircraft which are likely to cost around $300 million each. Makes no sense to me, but I guess they know what they are doing.

The A-350 is here. I know you are all gagging to read about it.

And in seconds you've turned an annoyance of mine to dust.  Had the telly on as background noise during all the painting lately and was getting quite cross with this one crowd.  They were offering elderly people a free pen for enquiring about insurance...  "Give us all your personal details so we can harass you the rest of your days with cold calls if you don't buy from us and we'll give you a free pen as thanks."  Ok, they didn't actually say that - but ya knew they meant it.

Ha, behave.

Still pretty impressive for 350 tons of metal to slide along an abrasive concrete surface for better part of a mile without so much as a spark! I would assume that friction generates a fair amount of heat.

Not so long ago it would be less than evens for a fire not to ensue.

When you coming on the 865 Show, anyway, Mr D? You could probably drive from Brighton to London in less than 20 minutes, I heard.

In the Pakistan cricketers spot-fixing trial, one of the defendants - Amir - was  not tried with the others, & is now being "tried" seperately under something called a "Newton hearing".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newton_hearing

Why is he being dealt with this way, I don't quite understand the logic at all. It seems "Newton" is used when the facts strongly clash, but I can't quite see how that's different from saying "not me, M'Lord", as all those who plead "Not Guilty" do.

cricket

I heard on the radio that Amir was charged with cheating specifically in the Lords test to which he pleaded guilty

Judge was concerned this was too narrow as other cheating had emerged in trial - thats maybe why?

This. Amir pleaded guilty to cheating @ Lords. During trial, text messages emerged which appeared to implicate Amir in fixing the Oval test (week before). Judge came out and said "I refuse to accept that basis of plea on the material I have seen. There are certainly texts and the like which suggest that Amir's first and only involvement was not limited to Lord's, it was not an isolated and one-off event."

ETA: The other big news coming out of the trial mitigation today was the agent, Majeed. He stood up in court and said it was Butt and an un-named player (the same name keeps popping up in all this, the wicketkeeper Akmal) who introduced him to fixing - and basically most of the Pakistan team were into it. The only player he specifically named who wasn't doing it was Saeed Ajmal, the off-spinner. Scary to think that a whole team were doing this...

Carlsberg don't do documentaries, but if they did they'd get the BBC to make them.

Worth the license fee alone.
