tbf, although I agree completely with the MVP shouts and would probably have been my father Christmas, I think he is the opposite of what blonde is and how it acts.
Lol. Can someone translate this post for me, I have no idea what it means.
Happy days, I did not want to be the first to ask!
There's alot of little cliques everywhere on the forum, just like any forum. People who have became friends because of the forum or joined the forum because their friends are on it, natural.
For example, I saw The Nun had commented on the thread and knew straight away it would be Cos, Stu Hopkin or EvilPie. We have team Eureka who will comment on everything each other do and post religiously in Alex's diary. We have yourself who will comment every time Red Dog is mentioned in any single post. The list goes on... Within most of these cliques there is little things that everybody knows, I guarantee that 50% of the forum don't know what happened with Colcehster Kev even though 10% of the forum remain supportive in their signatures, I know that 90% of the forum won't know about that thing that happened with that guy last year that I can't talk about. There is other things that certain people know and others don't.
With Cos he doesn't have his "crew" or select individuals that he favours, he is on good terms and has the respect of people from all ages, backgrounds, sexes, religions, educations etc etc, he's very unique, very nice, lots of other verys but I wouldn't say he summed up what Blonde was, maybe what it should be or what we want it to be.
Probably still doesn't make sense.
I could reply to much of that, but this thread is not really the time or place to have that debate, feel free to stick it on my Diary, or anywhere else, but let's keep the thread as intended, please.
Thanks.
i understand exactly what pleno means here and maybee it ought to be debated ........in a pleasant manner
Assuming the latter part of your note to be the basis, yes, of course, am more than happy so to do.
You lost the toss, so you to start.

Personally I think it's been debated often enough both pleasantly and unpleasantly.
however can't disagree with:
"but I wouldn't say he summed up what Blonde was, maybe what it should be or what we want it to be. "

Forum thread title next door, today.
is tikays misleadin dribble gd for the game and gd 4 skypoker?
Lololol welcome to my world.
There is a growing trend to chastise people who offer opinions about poker, like the criticism of Vicky Coren in a thread I read the other day. Fwiw I'd say sky-poker seems like a sustainable business model with an ethical approach in a market where those two attributes are in short supply. So I'd say everyone connected with the company should be proud of their contribution to the growth of poker, particularly for and behalf of amateur players. (The suits shouldn't be proud to pull threads thou, fckin hate that nonsense).
However, two questions for further debate alongside clique debate
1. Why are good players so worried about the information other players, namely their oppos, receive? What's more why do these good players think new players learning the game will follow advice from one person like a sheep and not use their brains to filter what they agree with from a variety of learning resources? Seems like this good for the game lark is just to excuse having a pop at someone and shows a real lack of respect for people's ability to learn.
2. Vicky Coren was accused of being too confident about her own opinions. Why do these good players expect amateur players to have a wishy washy attitude when they put their poker hats on? Good players are confident and decisive so even if you have the "wrong" opinion why criticise the right mentality? Don't see how a confident woman at the poker table is bad for the game myself.

Got to agree with G2L here.
communities are all, in general, made up of a number of sub-communities (cliques?)
I also think I must be one of the 90% who don't know what happened about a bloke at the end of last year. Can one of the 10%ers pm me please?

i mean...it's just what happens. not just on forums, but in real life as well, it's just far more apparent on a forum because you can measure it.
doesn't mean pleno's point doesn't stand though - i haven't been around long enough to comment on blonde specifically, but because I know that it happens on every single internet forum on the planet, the odds of blonde (great as it is) being different seem quite long.

Good morning, Lee.
First up, the comment was fine - though the subject has been re-worked here a thousand times over the years (mostly, in truth, by banned or disaffected Members), & if true, it's sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy, this Forum is what we - ALL of us - make it. If people form cliques, it's hardly a crime. The annoyance, not just me, but contained in 4 PM's to me alone, was the time & place. The Advent Thread is a little deeper than some may have realised, & Tighty desrves a medal for the hard work he has invested, but it's more than just awarding a few gongs, it's designed to be an uplifting thing, to accelerate the uptick in blonde mood of late, which Cos alluded to in his Oscar acceptance speech. So we were kind of hoping it could stay clear of those sort of comments, and let's just large up those who get the gong.
Here's a
broad
definition of clique......
A small exclusive group of friends or associates.
Whilst this is a similarly
broad
description of "friend".....
1. A person whom one knows, likes, and trusts.
2. A person whom one knows; an acquaintance.
3. A person with whom one is allied in a struggle or cause; a comrade.
Note the differences - quite small, looked at some ways, & quite a fine line. So a single "friend" cannot be a clique, 3, 4 or 5 can be. If there are 5 friends, is that auto a clique?
It's well known that by studies of human behaviour that we tend to form "groups" of friends within larger communities - pubs, schools, the knitting circle, poker, whatever, usually groups of 3 or 4, rarely larger than 10. Larger groups don't hold together quite so well, the larger, the less likely. I'm not really sure at what stage a group of friends becomes a clique, though. Are you?
Alex's "Eureka" thing was mentioned, unfairly, I thought. They are just a bunch of lads who run together, more away from here than on it. They cause no trouble to anyone else, most of them contribute wonderfully to PHA, & they Post across the Forum, in threads, quizzes, whatever, & they chuck in a few bob now & then for the Live Updates, so that lessens my bill. Some of them run a Diary, & fine Diaries, able to be enjoyed by all they are. That takes hard work, & you get free access to interact. What's the problem with that?
If you made an effort to join in with them, trust me, 100%, you'd be welcome. They are just a bunch of guys enjoying life, not dissing others, & causing no probs. Is that really a clique? If it is, is that so bad?
The Nun was mentioned, you suggested she always Posted in response to Cos, Stu Hopkin, & Evil Matt. You may not be aware, as you have only been a Member here 2 years or so, but the "Reece story" (Maureen's grandson) goes back to the very start of blonde. Cliffs? Born gravely ill, not expected to see 2 years out, had hundreds (literally) of operations, fought like a tiger, survived, prospered even, is now 7, & reasonably healthy, & the blondes contributed via donations to sending him to Disneyland in Florida earlier this year. Cost? About £10k, I think. Most donated by blondes such as you mention, & that was despite a dodgy "charity" doing a runner with a good few £thousand along the way. The threads are still on blonde, in the Lounge. Maureen is overwhelmed with gratitude, & likes to thank & support those who helped. Not to go into detail, but you cannot begin to imagine how much work, time, effort & money Cos, for example, contributed. Nobody except Maureen, Tom & I know, & it'll stay that way. But I think she's entitled to befriend them without being made to feel guilty, or part of a clique. She is NOT in any clique.
Then there's Tom & I, who you also mentioned, we "comment every time each other are mentioned". I happen to respect him more than any man I know, he is THE most extraordinary man. That's not a secret, & I don't want to be made to feel embarrassed about it. He's a kindred spirit, closer than a brother, & everyone knows that. Our relationship is much deeper than this Forum, & would continue with or without blonde. Is that so wrong?
Not everyone, but almost everyone, Posts on his diary, mine too, maybe to a lesser or greater degree, it matters not. Both Tom & I also post pretty much right across the Forum, in most Threads, & we do so with good grace mostly. (OK, Tom gets uppity at times, he's old, & uncultured). I don't see why that should upset or trouble a single soul. Karabiner is close to us, too, but he never got mentioned, though he is very old, to be fair.
Cos has a "gang" who are close to him, but again, he Posts right across a broad spectrum of threads, so do his pals. I can't quite see that he is any different in that respect to many blondes, but he is s natural leader, so that attracts groupings.
So no, I don't really see where all this is going, to be honest. I have no real view if Cos "is what blonde is about", or not, to be honest, more to the point, I'm not sure it really matters, does it?
It's a Forum, not unlike most Forums, people will pal up with small bunches of mates. It's just natural human behaviour, plus or minus a bit.

Again, not sure why Ken needs to be bought up, most of that was before you or Pleno were Members. Don't wish to sound rude, but are we obliged to retell the whole history to everyone?
"...Would be nice if these cliques commented on other peoples threads...."
?
Who, in particular, & how can we force anyone to do that? Not everyone gets on with everyone, thats perfectly natural, & we don't all share common interests, thank God. There are threads I have never opened - Film threads, TV threads, "fit birds" threads, they hold not an iota of interest to me, so why should I be obliged to comment upon them? Many people never open my Diary - who can blame them, it's a bit eclectic - but so what? I'm not sure that because I don't contribute to certain threads then that means I'm part of a clique. I just don't enjoy some threads!
pleno also mentions .....I know that 90% of the forum won't know about that thing that happened with that guy last year that I can't talk about

To which you retort "whats that all about, we all have a right to know?"
Do we? Really? I don't have the faintest idea what that is about, & I don't believe it is any of my business to. AFAIK, it's not connected to blonde. We, as Forum Members, don't have a right to know other people's private business unlerss they choose to let it be known. Why pleno led with that, I have no idea, & I agree, it was somewhat odd, but maybe you should ask him? If there is a "chosen few" who know, well that's for pleno to decide, not you or I. For the record, I have no idea who those "chosen few" are.
I think you are seeing shadows Lee, I really do.

I have had a thread (cant really call it a diary) since 2008, the reason for doing so was I had a lot of support and kind comments during my time in the Philippines 2006/08 and thought it would be nice for my blonde friends to continue to follow my adventure on my return to the UK.
Whilst it is always nice to read peoples comments what gives me most pleasure is the amount of views I have received as it shows people are interested/care enough to read it. I also have found it to be therapeutic at times.
In my time here I have often stated that the atmosphere has reached low points but then very quickly it seems to rise again and this is pretty much like life in general.
Just my opinion.....

Werll that's sad Lee, as I know you are a good lad, & mean well. But I can't hold your hand, & sometimes we have to look in the mirror, at ourselves, & make the effort to mix more, & better. I happen to have made a New Years resolution this year to do exactly that, because I'm not always proud of how I behave, & I've enjoyed working at it. If you really feel "left out", try putting yourself about a bit, offer the hand of warmth & friendship, big up the efforts of folks.
If I can help, just ask, but I truly believe we are all masters of our own destiny, & we get out of something what we put into it.

Thanks Big Man.
The "atmo" thing you refer to absolutely fascinates me, & you are spot on. A forum is like a garden, it needs attention, it needs tlc, it needs work doing. Some just relax in it, others work keep it nice & bright.
The mood here has been very low at times, very high at other times, & over the last few months, it's enjoyed quite a solid uplift. Tighty has worked hard to sustain that - hence the Advent thing.
Let me ask you a rhetorical question - would you in any way be offhand to "leethefish" if he Posted on your Diary? Of course you would not. But he never has, afaik.
Put yourself about Lee, there are peeps here who would love to interact with you, or anyone else that makes the effort. Trust me, there are, lots & lots of them. We can make cliques by excluding ourselves, too!
