Away from sportsmen & women, for some obscure reason, I was thinking this morning of the world's greatest sporting events, as spectacles, occasions.
Nobody could ever agree on it, but my first list (assuming, say, 10) was.....(not in order)
The Open. (British Open Golf Championship). That's the easy one. Argue all you like, that stays.
SuperBowl
Monaco F1 Grand Prix
Wimbledon Tennis. (Or French Open Tennis)
Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
State of Origin.
Tour de France
Olympics
World Cup (Football)
A Lords Test v Australia, or the Ashes Test on Boxing Day down under.
That's not to say I would watch them all. I can't rev up even a tad of interest in the Olympics, or the Tour de France. Great occasions though.
I would drop the Push Bike race for The Masters any day

Not making much progress now, it's sooo soooo slow, but I'm stlll zero-tolerance, no cheating. Had a wonderful dessert last night - great big bowl of fresh pineapple, fresh strawberries, crispy grapes, &
pickled beetroot
. Num num num.
wtf?
Do you have a problem with that young lady?
I have a refined palate. I had a yoghourt with it, too, forgot that.
I don't like beetroot at the best of times, but the thought of sticking the pickled variety in a fruit salad just makes my stomach heave.

I have a bit of a niggle in my head with The Masters Dave.
Yup, wonderful course & all that, great organisation, but it has some bad racial history, & stuff. Relatively recent, too. Now it has trouble with the "No Lady Members" thing, though that's the same in many places, UK courses included.
I confess I adore watching it though.

Must've been in sweet vinegar.

What?
Tinsley never lost a World Championship match, and lost only seven games (
two of them to the Chinook computer program
) in his entire 45 year career.[
He played a game of "checkers" v the Chinook Computer Programme?
That might just be the greatest dumb thing I've ever heard.
Steady on with this stuff, you are cheering me up.

I understand where you are coming from, but the same could be said about the Olympics and its history.

Grand National in, State of Origin out for me
Good list though.
Grand National? If it were held at a respectable venue, like Cheltenham, maybe, but Aintree, no ta.
Starte of Origin, bloody hell, them chaps are well hard!
What about the World Series Baseball?
Didn't know you were a rugby league fan tikay. You're right though, they're proper hard. As someone once said:
"Footballers spend 90 minutes pretending they're injured; rugby league players spend 80 minutes pretending they aren't."

Obviously the racist stuff is completely intolerable.
But I have no problem with men only or women only clubs (or poker tournaments or whatever)

I don't have dates to hand, but the "no blacks" thing @ The Masters was in the last 30 years I think. I also think - then - that the Caddies HAD to be black. Now that was a quality rub.

Nirvana and I think it would be a great idea to get us on the show to discuss poker.
Let us know when you want us.
This should definitely happen. give Nirvana a few days though, he was literally in tears when MDD called a clock on him last night.
This grinch like behaviour from the curmudge is one of the things I could talk about. However, if it's filmed in widescreen would think the celtic/spangles combo would be orsum.
tbf I'm guessing we're the wrong age group, TFOP is the one, get he'm on

Wrong word Raymondo, my bad. It's like wicked means great, & "joke" means shite. Or summat.
I just think it is an incredibly sort of bizarre but great fact.
I was great at checkers.
You was?
Yup, I beat a Chinook helicopter programme
I'm trying to picture it in my mind, this geezer playing a software programme for a Chinook helicopter.
Course, if it were an Apache Helicopter, or a Sikorsky, he'd never beat them.

If the 'World' Series Baseball made it ahead of the Stanley Cup final (which kicks off on Wednesday btw) I think I might just cry
