If you get 5 mins.......A vid of stepping back in time Hanley, S-O-T. (does include an old PMT bus)
I remember you saying you used to visit Trentham Gardens, but not sure if you ever went into the center of the Potteries.
I hope to find some time this week to grind some UKPC sats. It certainly looks like one not to miss.

Hi Knottikay are you from the Potteries?
I went to school in Hanley then on to high school in Birches Head. I'm knocking on a bit as I remember them building Unity house and now they've knocked it down. Strange coincidence you post this as I drove through Hanley today and whilst waiting at the lights I could see the Library and Museum. The library looks dated now but was state of the art when built. I went to school just around the corner and sometimes went there to do my homework, that's before I started doing it on the bus in the mornings. Hanley opened a new bus station last year and apparently the old station along with the land of Unity house is being regenerated into shopping and leisure complexes.
Hi kev. Not technically from the Potteries, no. I live in Stone but worked/drank in Hanley/Longton/Stoke & Fenton. I have been in the area since about 1977. Now working in Talke Pits FML
Glad it brought back some memories for you. Funny you should say about the new bus station....I went to do my dreaded Christmas shopping up Hanley 'duck', and I had always parked in the same place and walked through to the Potteries Shopping Center. However, you could imagine my dismay when I found a new bus station built on 'my' car park!

Thanks Alan.
I know Hanley, & much of Stoke & the pottery towns, quite well. I still visit Stoke regularly, I'm sort of
connected
there.
Trentham Gardens? Amazing place, though I preferred it before St Modwen Properties (in whom I own a goodly number of Shares) re-developed it. I gather it even has a monkey park (a what?) now.
I was involved with that gigantic Sainsbury's Distribution Centre too, on the A500 between the A50 & M6. It has a super smooth power float floor, they need those to operate High Bay Warehouses, as the floor needs to be perfectly smooth & flat.
Hope you can bink a UKPC seat, and even if you don't, feel free to come visit, should be a great atmo, & plenty of faces there.
I have to drive past that 'eye sore' of a distribution centre everyday on my way to work at Talke pits. My Father was actually on the management quantity surveying team of Tarmac, who were behind the construction of the A500 back in about 1976/1977. This is how I ended up in this area in fact.
Yep....there is a monkey
forest
now at Trentham Gardens. It was where I wrote my car off just before Xmas at the round-a-bout that was built for it's entrance! My 1st crash ever and after the copper said I was lucky to walk away.....he also said smugly 'at least you weren't driving like a monkey!'
I will try my best to get to DTD next week.

Stone is a nice place to live, used to have a good wine shop in the high street and a decent Thai restaurant. I live in Newcastle now and work all over the city with my business. Stoke gets some bad press as it's an old industrial City and still has too many run down areas, but most who visit from elsewhere comment on the friendliness of the people. It's good to see investment in the City, needs it.
VUL working in Talke Pits BTW.
Tikay next time you visit you're welcome to call in for a coffee. I can show off my new coffee machine, proper jobie it is, you will love it.

I generally have a little group of good folks who buy my Vegas action every year, & we've turned a little profit in each the last 3 visits. So I'll offer them first dibs, & then try to sell some more via a Staking Thread.
Hi Tony, could you add me to the reserve list please? I have a feeling you're going to win a bracelet this year
Looking forward to the UKPC next week, hopefully see you then!

I only recognized him after googling him......
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Cooper_Clarke
From this, I then realised I had seen him on HIGNFY, on which I thought he was, with due respect, as dull as dishwater.
At the time, of course, I had not realised the reason - he is (or claims to be) some sort of poet.
Poets, by nature, are exceedingly dull individuals, I tend to find. No imagination, because they wasted their youth on iambic pentameters, instead of more wholesome pursuits such as noting down the numbers of steam locomotives.
Why do you ask, if I may make so bold?
Good luck to your boys tonight against Spurs. Should be an easy 3 points, yes?
Fingers crossed I'll see you next week in Nottingham. No excuses please.

I'd be flattered to include you in my list, Nick, thank you. Consider it reserved.
The WSOP schedules came out overnight, so now I can start trying to get my head round what I'd like to play, the total package, & total cost. Only 2 x WSOP PLO8 jobbies, (1 x $1,500 & 1 x $3,000) which is a bit of a disappointment, but at least it limits my liabilities.
I'll try & put something together shortly, but your interest is reserved. Thank you.
Look forward to seeing you next week. Alex was on the Show last night, & gave a very good account of himself.

It's a well-known fact, Tom.
And I am bored to death with it. Bored to death with this place, bored to death with my life, bored to death with myself.

Those plo8 tournaments are in the same week too. A year too late for me.

Yes, just 3 days apart, 24th & 27th June. Bit odd, really, so close toggether, but I'm sure there's good reason.

Good for the recs, so good for the game? Much easier to get a week off, rather than two. Bit like your 3 day tourneys vs 4 day ones

A friend of mine was saying they were a big fan, just wondered if you knew of him, more likely Tom will as I know he's into the arty farty stuff, sophisticated I believe they like to call it.
They made me aware that, what I believe to be one of the greatest album's possibly ever made, Arctic Monkeys AM, he played a small part in.
I'll link you up to both as I know you have a lot of free time on your hands

UKPC not looking likely sadly, pretty tilted that I'm going to miss it, everyone and there dog seems like they're going to be there so I'm sure it's going to be a huge success, pretty much the only live event this year I actually really want to be at, maybe next time (or heater the shit out of the next week).
Hope the stress of it all doesn't prevent you from enjoying the week, crush it

I just asked Pete if he wanted to know what the plan is for tomorrow.
He said ' not really, it will just be like every other day. I'll get up in the morning, do what you tell me to do all day long and go to bed absolutely knackered ! '
