I saw this on PPRuNe today.

The "source" of this is 2nd hand information from a known liar. I would not take anything Saxby Chambliss says an accurate reflection on facts without independent verification. A more histrionic dissimulator is hard to find this side of Caracas

Gotta love that.

histrionic dissimulator

PS - I'd never heard of Saxby (in fact I asumed by the name it was a woman), but it turns out he is a Politician.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saxby_Chambliss

A Politician dissimulating, who'd have thought.

Stephen Fry tells a story of Anthony Burgess describing Jean Genet as, amongst other things, an excremental narcissist.

Could you imagine having the time and inclination to document everything everyone says in an episode of a largely unscripted TV show?

I've no idea how they do that, or even why, I loathe the TV show, but enjoyed much better the written version.

I really do think that the oddly-named Phil Jupitus is a much under-rated talent. Very gifted indeed. Probably cba to apply himself more, but he could be a very big name if he put his mind to it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phill_Jupitus

I had the misfortune to catch a short part of the new Michael McIntyre Show on BBC the other night. "Welcome to MY Show", he repeatedly noted, & to MY Guest, & to my much-over-rated comedic skills.

As bland & predictable as Dale Winton, but fair play to him, he's really worked at succeeding, & must be made for life now. I don't begrudge him his success, not at all, but I find it hard to explain.

My wife and I hate Jupitus with a passion, because he robbed us of £20 and an hour of our lives.

We went to see his Edinburgh Festival (One of the best things ever about the UK btw) show 'Phil Jupitus reads Dickens'. We assumed it would be a whimsical take on the work of Charles Dickens read by that funny man off the Buzzcocks.

Nope.

He walked on stage, set a timer for 40 minutes, randomly picked out a page from a Chalres Dicken compendium and read for 40 minutes until his timer went off. Then he said thanks and walked off stage.

No jokes.
No banter.
No attempt to do anything else with the material.

The flyers for it were marketed much more like it was going to be something.....ANYTHING other than what it actually was.

The audience were completely bemused, except for one guy who seemed to be forcing a laugh whenever he put on a funny voice.

Now no matter how funny he is, we just look at him stone faced, because he is the man who robbed us of an hour  of our lives, and £20.

Yes, when you go to watch something called Phill Jupitus Reads Dickens, what you got was completely unforeseeable.

I read Stewart Lee's book about stand up and he tells of a few different attempts to push the boundaries of comedy, including one who chopped a worm in half. That was essentially his act. Granted, he made a bit of a song and dance of it beforehand, but he chopped a worm in half. I'd be mightily miffed if I'd paid any money at all to watch that.

I'd like the £7 I paid to watch The Hangover back too, please. What an unmitigated splatter of botty gravy that was.

To be fair, Barry, if he was given shit material to work with - Dickens, ffs? - there's only so much a man can do.

I've been directed to the story of a VC winner who went to my old school.

Phil Jupitus has given me almost as much amusement at The Fringe as Stewart Lee. I intend that as a compliment,  MscIntyre fans may see it otherwise.

reading the blurb for Phil Jupitus reads Dickens might alert you to it's content...

Still no sign of the missing aircraft, though the floating wreckage they are currently checking looks like it could be the answer everyone has been dreading.

...but in other fascinating aircraft news, how cool is this?

I can't imagine any bloody poets or arty-farty painters can boast one of these.

The Rolling Stones jet.

Of course, it's even cooler if your lead singer captains your tour jet.

Seventy years since The Great Escape.

I spent the evening watching Dickie Attenborough, Charles Bronson and co tunnelli g their way to...twenty feet from the trees.

Mcqueen never stood a chance. He could never beat the entire German army when he couldn't beat Edward G Robinson in a game of cards.
