Wow I log on to see how many bracelts we won and to count my money and all I get is pages of spotting drones in the desert. What about the RNAs? Have we actually even ripped anyone a new wotsit yet this trip?

Sunday, the schedule proper starts.

So far, this has been a tribute.

Enjoying your reports.

a) Do Sky Poker mind you mentioning Pokerstars in every blog, or is it that they are so enormous now that it seems to futile to pretend that they don't exist?
b) How many poker players do you think the WSOP attracts every year? I know there are lots of people there who never play a single WSOP event, or who never even play a tournament. How does it compare to the convention of jewellers do you reckon? I've got a friend who's going to Vegas in a week, and he's too daft to even understand the rules of poker. My mental image of Vegas is that the entire place turns into pokertown for the duration, but I guess it's just another drop in the bucket over there.

Hi skippy.

Two great questions, thank you, & sorry for the delayed reply.

Dealing first with b), the WSOP......

There were 79,471 entrants in 2013 to the combined WSOP Events, so thats a big number. But how many were "uniques"? I have no idea, but if we made an assumption that, on average, they played 3 Events each, on average, that equates to 26,000 Uniques. If the Average is 2 Events , 40,000.

But.....

We must bear in mind this happens over a 6 week period, whereas the other conventions & gatherings usually vary between 3 & 7 days. On that basis, the other conventions are, in a way, far bigger. I suppose we could assume, very roughly, that the WSOP atteacts 10,000 to 12,000 players/visitors per week. Or, 5,000 to 6,000 Uniques (= different people) per week.

My point about all the other conventions was to give balance to the view within poker that Las Vegas = poker. It does not, Vegas would get along just fine without poker, & it is just one of hundreds or even thousands of major get-togethers in Vegas every year.

We could also, perhaps, take the view that the WSOP exists in Vegas for one primary reason - to fill Vegas Hotel rooms.

WSOP is owned by Caesars Entertainment, who, I think, own around half (maybe less these days) of all hotel rooms in Vegas, including Rio, Caesars Palace, Ballys, Harrahs, Flamingo, Paris, Planet Hollywood, & Quad. So they have a massive incentive to attract people to Las Vegas. The WSOP therefore very much suits their Business.

Just some of the Annual Conventions in Vegas are listed here. Note how many there are in June alone.

I gotta go, will reply to part a), which is a VERY interesting one, later today, or tomorrow.

Off to see the Grand Canyon now.

Did you buy a catheter?
It would seem a shrewd investment for a man of your age and condition.

Not yet.......

There are 4,250 entrants so far for today's "Seniors" Event, most of whom currently seem to be queuing for the Restrooms or Oxygen Bars.

Are you too old to enter the seniors?

Please.

I don't play NLH these days, but I just had a wander round the Tables, and if I had not already booked a Grand Canyon trip today, I'd deffo have entered, it looks great fun. I actually regret not scheduling that event now, but so be it.

Good to see you @ the Baseball the other night, absolutely love the atmo there.

Ha, I have never been able to resist a cheap joke!

Was good to see you as well.

Ooh, thanks Simon.

Looks like they have worked hard to recreate the ambience of the old place. The timing remains a mystery though.

I lifted the photo Mark, not entirely sure but don'#t think so..  As I picture it in my mind, Mesa Grill was opposite the sportsbook/old poker entrance, whereas the new poker room should be just at the left of the sportsbook as you look at it.  What was there before, I can't remember but was a gift shop or something for one of the shows iirc.

I'm hoping Mesa Grill will still be there, as it is always on my short list of places to eat solo at the bar - Pork Tenderloin that is their signature dish is incred.

If time permits, I'll pop into Caesars today or tomorrow, & suss out exactly where that place is. Might even take some photos for you.

I think I know where you mean now, that would make the poker room on the opposite wall to Mesa, and I think it might have been a Pussycat Dolls shop at one time.

Lol @ "think", & trust you to know where a Pussycast Dolls Apparel shop is.

Is that where you got the Nurse's uniform?
