Anyway, the point of going to Chillon was to see the ornate Chateau de Chillon, once owned by the Savoy Family.

And in another clash of old & new, look at that spectacular Motorway running above the Chateau.

If you were a young Civil Engineer just setting out in life, Switzerland would be a great place to start, with it's beautifully challenging landscape.

Spent Saturday in Geneva, unforch, it tipped down with rain the entire day, so sightseeing was limited.

Did venture out to sample a latte & a "ham & tomato" pannini, but had to send it back, as the ham was raw, it had not been cooked. 

That apart, it was a lovely little pavement cafe in the Old Town, right opposite the imposing Palais de Justice, presumably Geneva's answer to the Hammersmith Palais.

It was certainly not proper ham, like we get in Tesco.

Next was a trip up the mountain on a Cog Railway called "Golden Pass".

This cog railway was nothing short of a miracle of engineering, rising 1,500 metres in 10 kilometres.

Starts out at Montreaux, in reasonably mild weather, & ends up on top of a snow-covered mountain 45 minutes later, all the while with glimpses of the Lake below.

First proper stop was Caux, again, another picture postcard station.

Spotted this brutally beautiful looking Loco @ Cain........

...which was used to push the railway track snow-plough up the mountain.....

All the way, the trackside was adorned with these gorgeous little Swiss chalets....

...and suddenly, just like that, the snow-line had been well & truly breached, & the trees were laden with heavy snow......

And so, 45 minutes after leaving the mild shores of Lake Geneva, this was the scene......

They had billboards up on all the street lighting advertising it, and the Sotheby's Auction House is just across the way from the Lake, all very swish.
