There was a TV show the other night about canals, barges, & that sort of stuff. zzzzz? Not at all.

It featured these two people.

They look a little different now. She is 83, no less, & they have been married 52 years.

The Show was interesting, up to a point.

It was also notable for showing how deeply in love Prunella & Timothy still are. They just radiated love, warmth & understanding.

Now the kicker. Prunella has Alzheimer's Disease. Ain't that the saddest thing?

And Timothy will never leave her side. Which is really lovely.

Must be pretty tough seeing the one you hold dearest descend into mental illness. Anything but that, dear God.

Does anyone else think that Anita Lady looks 10 times prettier in the railway photo without make up, than the dancing photo?

Agree, 100%.

I don't like to see ladies wear much by way of make up.

I hope she does not take offence - not that she'll ever know, or care, what I write - but Vicky Coren very often did not bother to fix her hair or make up when she played poker. And I doted on her all the more because of that. She looked lovely in Only Connect & HIGNFY of course, all dolled up, but I loved her in her plain Jane mode.

Probably best if I do not upload a photo of her without hairdo & make up. Imagine if she HAD fixed her hair that day......

I was toing & froing between immense sadness & great happiness, every time I looked at them. Don't know what to think, really. The Show was a week or two ago, but I seem to think about it every day.

It does not help that on Dave, or Gold, or whatever, they are currently celebrating Fawlty Towers. Some of that has really held up well given it is the better part of 50 years old. Prunella was immense in that. I was in love with Connie Booth at the time, mind. Not sure I'd ever seen coat-hangers before.

She has not changed much, either, the ravages of time apart.

The stats can't lie can they?

http://www.pokersuperhero.com/best.html

Of course I would much rather come 2nd in the roller than win 3 x £22bh because it's much more about the money for me than the top spot. Anyway it can get all very consuming, I've found myself not wanting to leave the PC and play live which at first wasn't a bad thing but now the missus is getting use to me being at home, hence GUKPT week couldn't have come at a better time. Hopefully you will change your mind im sure there are many people who will welcome you with open arms, celebrity or not.

The stats will look a little better this morning. Well done Scott.

Well there's a thing, I would never have imagined he would do that. I just checked his Wiki, & he wads in Coronation Street, too.

Does anyone know what sort of money someone like Timothy West would get in a top soap? Is it x per episode, or a 6 or 12 month flat fee? I suppose it could be a considerable sum, but it is almost a full time job presumably, so precludes him from earning elsewhere.

He's possibly doing the job so he can help care for prunella !
day time filming means he can be at home in the evenings instead of treading the boards in some theatre ,or because it's near their home
Either way the canal journey programme showed them to be a lovely couple , him in particular best wishes to them both

Yes, that works.

I'm glad so many seemed to have watched the Show, & came away with the same thoughts - what a lovely couple they are.

He had his oh-so geeky interests - barges, aqueducts, steam locomotives, & she totally supported him. And I bet he is very supportive & understanding of her issues.

It's strange how u get to have a little run in the same tournaments, this is the same one I won a couple of weeks ago, can't sniff at 4th place either. Thanks Tikay, really enjoying the studying and playing at the moment.

Seems like a good option for you to explore when you hang up your skypoker boots given you have already done TV work. I would have thought you would be better suited to Last of the Summer Wine than Eastenders.

It's so refreshing to see folks enjoying their poker. Long may it last.

I'm still playing small ball SNG's, but I enjoy them immensely, & can't wait to log on every evening & have my little session. This week I've run ridiculously well, which can't continue of course, but the last 2 nights have been my best ever playing my little DYM's. If I said I'd made the princely sum of £113 in those two sessions, Team Nosebleed would fall over laughing, but that's how it is, dripping taps & all that, & it don't 'arf add up over time.

I'm no longer cut out to lose meaningful sums of money on the flip of a card, & when I do, it makes me feel bad, so I just stick to small ball, where a) I can win, & b) the occasional loss does not make my eyes water.

Each to their own, of course.

Now now Mr Bates. I'm kind of hoping I can survive at least another 3 weeks, which would take me into my 10th year next door. My contract has just been renewed, so I must have a chance, though it's meaningless in a way, as it can be terminated by either party without notice. Still, they renewed it, which is a good sign.

I see you got 3 or 4 nice cashes last night for around £800. That very impressive Sky Poker Sharkscope graph of yours should hit the 6 figure number in the next few weeks - that's quite astounding, well done.

You have won plenty on 'Stars, too, I see. You must be minted. Wink

Your ears should be burning, too, after that Mr Rhino fella revealed how helpful you had been to him.  What a great thing that thread was, where, quite by accident, from a random comment I posted, we learned that so many of the more experienced players like you were quietly helping the newbies under the radar. Seriously, for a guy who is some £150,000 ahead, it's grand to see what you have been doing for the little guys.

Have you considered giving up work & playing full time? Personally, I hope you don't - family business & all that - but it must have crossed your mind?

He should definitely get out of the house on his own for a time.  Caring for someone with dementia becomes absolutely overwhelming near the end.  Caring for someone 24/7 breaks some people.

Not sure how much money they needed, they had a fantastic house very near where I lived a few years ago. I read his Wikipedia and noticed he has given up Eastenders.  I think I saw a bit of this show a while ago, so think it must be a repeat.  I am guessing she must be quite a bit worse now.   Hope he is getting all the help he needs.

Even though my dad has gone a while now, I am still not sure what I really wanted in the end.  I have no idea what he thought about the whole thing or what he would have wanted.  He certainly wasn't going to be pottering about on any barges. It was just impossible to know what he thought about anything in the end.

There was a clip I saw a few months ago, maybe it was on the bbc website, where somebody (an australian?) had captured somebody deteriorating with dementia by splicing together family films over a few years (I think there was a year gap between each).  Really is worth a watch, though it was very painful viewing.  It just captured the disease very well.

Funny I remembered this as a film.

I am not sure I could agree with the sentiments at the end, but know exactly where he is coming from.
