He should definitely get out of the house on his own for a time. Caring for someone with dementia becomes absolutely overwhelming near the end. Caring for someone 24/7 breaks some people.
That is so very true.

Funny I remembered this as a film.

I am not sure I could agree with the sentiments at the end, but know exactly where he is coming from.
Strewth, David, that was such a painful watch. That's real love when family care for people in that situation, & watch them slowly wither & die.
The line at the end?
I really hope she dies soon
I 100% empathise with that, though in that case, I'm not sure, as we don't know if she was aware or suffering.
When there is no way back, & they are suffering badly, with no quality of life at all, yes, it makes sense to me, & I've wished exactly that in some cases.
What a terrible thing dementia is. Unlike Cancer, or so it seems to me, it has a lower profile, & does not have as many charities or medical research devoted to it. I guess, in most cases, it occurs at the wrong end of our lives, whereas Cancer can & often does strike at an early age.

Towards the end we never really had any idea why he was smiling, crying, grimacing. He just lost the ability to communicate at all, but we don't kill our babies just because we don't know if, or why, they are happy or sad. There were periods when he seemed really happy. I think the question of when to end somebody else's life in circumstances like these just becomes impossible to answer.
Yes I was sad when he died but also relieved.
I know back earlier in the year when Alex had his dilemma, I was facing the same one. What would be the point in coming back, he had gone long ago and I wouldn't have known whether I was supposed to be happy, relieved or sad. He genuinely had no idea who I was for a long time and I could do so little to help him. Don't know how anybody else could advise, because I wasn't even sure what the right answer was. After it eventually did happen, I knew I would never have been able to play poker that day.
I was happy for his wife, she had done so much and needed to start looking after herself.
Throughout the whole time the kids were brilliant with him. He was just another child who needed a bit of looking after to them.
Anyway, taken a few months to write this down, normal service can be resumed.

Does your new contract include a buyout clause a la de gea?

Now that's the sort of Post I like to see.
We owe each other money, but I'm unclear how much.
I did ask on your staking thread on July 24th, when I wrote....
"Morning Cos.
I owe you £43.35 for my Vegas Staking Return, but I've no idea how much you owe me for your returns.
Presumably, we can set off the difference & sort it that way?
Let me know who owes what please, & we'll get it sorted.
You gave us great value with the reports, have to say. A shame you fell unwell a couple of times."
It was here......
http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=65417.90
We dealt on a credit basis.
I owe you £43.35 in returns from my action, but I've no idea how much you owe me. (I had 1% of you). Let me know please.
Once we settle that, that just leaves Mr Evil Russell. Heaven only knows how much I owe him, but I have no immediate plans to pay him.

Think it's the other way round, Ralph - they might just give me money to leave.
I've actually had a pretty solid week at work, sorted a bunch of things. Nothing major, but a mixture of all sorts, "Live" Events (in the upside down world of the internet, we call them "Offline Events"), helping to broker the peace with a temporarily disgruntled Priority player who happens to be a close friend, (always easy when you can keep these things under the radar), some work for "Content", filmed some PLO for beginners, & assorted other stuff.
We were supposed to move office last weekend, but it got postponed. Due to a comms error, nobody told me it had been postponed, which ended up all rather embarrassing when I marched in to my supposed new office on Monday & sat myself down at Mr Stroppy's desk.....
So, the office move is this weekend. It'll be my 11th office move since I've been here. This one looks to be a winner - the new office has windows. oioi
All the oddschecker guys are moving too, so we'll all be together again. They are a decent bunch of lads. Think there are 27 guys & one young lady. She gets a fair bit of attention, as you can imagine. Oh yes.
Been a reasonable week for blonde, too, we had in excess of 400 posts every day except yesterday, when we fell 37 shy. A bit of the usual aggro & hecklers, of course, but generally mostly good.
How are you keeping these days? Health still good? Winning a few bob here & there, ducking & diving?

That must have been a really difficult time. I think I saw you during that period (the BE get-together?), but did not like to ask how things were.
The pain eventually subsides, but we never forget.

Hoe are things with you now David, if it's Ok to ask? I know it's been

for a few years.
You still working at the school?
Fully recovered from the heart scare affair?
What you gonna do with that motorbike?

I owe you money too. Think we were about even until the last winner. But I may need to go back and work out when I last paid you something and work from there. I am definitely going back to immediate settlement. I already do company accounts, poker accounts and my own betting accounts. I don't need any more.

Ooh, thank you.
I've no idea what or if you owe me, will agree whatever you say.
Another chap wrote to me in the week & reminded me he owed me money from ages back.
I'm on a roll here, happy days.

surely this raises him in your estimation massively?

Did anyone watch "Last Night of the Proms" last night?
Might just be one of the TV highlights of the year. Absolutely wonderful, so much joy, happiness, & people just determined to be happy & help make a great evening.
They had a lady Conducter person this year - Marin somebody? - who seemed a little stiff to me, and bore an uncanny resemblance to a cross between Claire Balding & Angela Merkel.
It was all so uplifting though.
There is presumably a "dress convention". The folks in the boxes wore evening suits & dresses, the stalls occupants were in sort of party gear with wonderfully silly hats, whilst waving flags, and the ladies in the orchestra all had splendid evening gowns in primary colours.
I perceive professional classical musicians to be a bit serious, maybe short of the s-o-h we like to see on TV, but they all entered into the spirit of a glorious celebration. I welled up at the climax, LOHAG, as I do every year.
It's so wonderfully upbeat, grand, traditional & British.
Last Night of the Proms, & Horse Guards Parade, with HM on her Horse, will always be in my annual Top 5 TV events.

I like him because he seems a bit normal and ordinary, whatever that is.
What I mean is he seems to be happy to admit to having idiosyncrasies, imperfections and failings, just like the rest of us.
I think he will fight for what he believes in, rather than what is most likely to win the most votes.

That is what has so much potential to 'win' votes from the millions of people who don't vote. It might not but no one else in the labour leadership has that potential.
