Just what a man of varied tastes wants, I'm sure... Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Dominican Cheesy

Where is the boiled fish, pineappl, and tinned toms gaff?

A ridiculous omission.

I struggled to find anything edible last night, but eventually settled for spag bol (sure I could taste onion in it) with a side of a slice of pizza, some fish (grouper), a chicken breast & some fries. Oh, & 2 sausages.

Tough life Wink

Have a good trip, and hopefully everyone behaves for Tighty.

Ladbrokes go 66/1, but doubt they'll let you have much on. A handful seem determined to destroy the place, simply for their own ends.

The trip will be just fine. "Players Welcome Party" tonight, can't wait, right up my street, that. Then, tomorrow, a boat trip, "unlimited alcohol & loud music". Almost as if it were designed especially for me. There's a snorkelling trip, too, not something I've ever tried before.

All in a days work I suppose, & I'm not the sort to complain.

What do you mean by a "handful seem determined to destroy the place, simply for their own ends"?  What would this handful gain from the destruction of TfT?  It just struck me as people who don't like each other arguing and behaving boorishly (again).

There was some gold in amongst it all, and it was a real shame it was missed by people who could learn from it.

Well that's another day in paradise done & dusted.

Wrote another blog tonight after the Welcome Party affair, & cleared up a bunch of e-Mails, PM's & whatnot.

Dinner was better tonight, now I'm getting the hang of what's what amongst the 15 or 20 restaurants here. Had spag bol, then a slice of pizza, with some fries & 2 sausages, with ice cream for afters. What a life.

Tomorrow morning comes - for me - the sternest test of the whole trip - the 4 hour "Boat Party", which promises 4 hours of seaborne loud music & alcohol flowing freely. Can't wait.

Spotted these two beauties wandering around the hotel this morning, sort of chattering away to themselves, as ducks tend to.

Anyone know the exact species?

Anyone know what the first of these photos is, the sort of posh turkey looking thing?

Guinea fowl, originally from africa.

Not sure about ducks, aylesburys possibly.

Blimey George, that is exactly it.

Now I gotta send that to Gill - she'll love it.  1.1 we end up in that, or similar.

Meanwhile, a quick question for you, Geo.

George,

Do you recognize this couple? They are both on the Punta Cana trip, but they hail from Edinburgh, & both play a lot at the local venues, including Maybury.

Their names are George & Lesley Devine.

^^^^

A quick side story to that photo.

I included it in yesterday's Blog, but the powers that be up in Head Office removed it, and as a result, had to mess around with what I had written to cover the omission.

I have to say, when they mess with my blogs without first asking/telling me, I get a bit Giles Coren-ish. Not quite THAT bad, & he writes a zillion times better than me, but I deffo get the hump about it.

On this occasion, however, I had no defence.

These blogs go on "social" (Twitter etc) & that means we cannot ever show a combination of gambling & drinking alcohol. And if we were to, within minutes, every competing Online Gaming Site would be filing a complaint with the ASA.

When you think about how aggressively the various forms of gaming are promoted, that's quite strange, to say the least.

And all over a glass of beer or bubbly.

So now we can see how tricky it was to get this photo, as all of them were at the very least "merry" & most were pissed as a fart, & everyone had a drink in their hand when we assembled them for this.

Photoshop at it's very best, eh?

Always worth re-visiting the Giles Coren Edit-Gate.

There is no length issue. This is someone thinking "I'll just remove this indefinite article because Coren is an illiterate ***** and i know best".

Well, you fucking don't.

This was shit, shit sub-editing for three reasons.

I only wrote that sodding paragraph to make that joke. And you've fucking stripped it out like a pissed Irish plasterer restoring a renaissance fresco and thinking jesus looks shit with a bear so plastering over it. You might as well have removed the whole paragraph. I mean, fucking christ, don't you read the copy?

And worst of all. Dumbest, deafest, shittest of all, you have removed the unstressed 'a' so that the stress that should have fallen on "nosh" is lost, and my piece ends on an unstressed syllable. When you're winding up a piece of prose, metre is crucial. Can't you hear? Can't you hear that it is wrong? It's not fucking rocket science. It's fucking pre-GCSE scansion. I have written 350 restaurant reviews for The Times and i have never ended on an unstressed syllable. Fuck. fuck, fuck, fuck.

For balance, of course, we must look at the response of his Editor;

Dear Giles,

Sub-editing is a noble profession. It is also a thankless one - particularly when your writers call you a "useless *****".

There was a sharp intake of breath when your e-mail hit the inbox of subs throughout the industry this week - that was after we'd stopped laughing

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have such writing skills?
