Morning Mr T.

I know you like photos and I thought these were very interesting, they are recently discovered colour photos of the east end of London from the 60's and early 70's.

Great link though.

Notice how all the high street shops were independents, not a chain store in sight.

In those days it was a treat to walk around an unfamiliar town centre, nowadays the shops are all the same wherever you go.

Well almost, though not quite.

I spotted Dolcis, & "North Thames Gas".

But the best one was "Percy Dalton's Nuts".

Go to any football match, & there was a bloke with a sort of tray round his neck, selling Percy Dalton's Peanuts. Think they were threepence or a tanner.

Like this bloke, with his bullseye bins.

Anyone want to guess why the crowd all stood there?

Maybe that jewellers is a pawnbroker & they were all trying to pawn or redeem something?

I think they're waiting for North Thames Gas to open - but I'm not old enough to know if that's a realistic idea; did people queue outside the shop to pay their gas bills before the internet was invented? Smiley

That sounds more likely, & yes, they certainly did, though most of us were on the "shilling in the meter" thing.

Haha.   Lolly sticks used to work in the old public phone boxes also.
