When I was in my adolescent years I sometimes went "up town" and it was always  special treat to go into the sandwich bars in the West End.

I was so reminded of them when I saw this absolutely wonderful photo on Twitter recently. In that day & age, seemingly food allergies from "crossover" never existed. Nor did food poisoning. I'm pretty sure we have all become more fragile & sensitive in the last 50 years.

This emerged overnight.....

Film mogul Harvey Weinstein has reached a tentative $25m (£19m) settlement with dozens of women who have accused him of sexual misconduct, lawyers have said.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-50755113

This was interesting......

"Mr Weinstein would not pay personally, the sum would come from insurance firms representing the Weinstein Company"

He's not off his unfortunate hook yet though, he still has to face criminal charges of rape & sexual assault, which carry a life sentence.

Good to have you back, Mr K.

Thanks Simon, it's good to be back.

I came back from SPT Manchester 3 weeks ago & went down with 'flu or whatever & never felt so bad, so I've just been doing the minimum with my work & stuff.

My local Surgery/Pharmacy - one of those modern joined-up affairs -  have been spamming me to death with "HAVE YOU HAD YOUR FLU JAB YET, THEY ARE FREE, NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED".  Bet they send me 4 texts every week, & the Pharmacy, where I go frequently to collect my Harry medication, is plastered with GET YOUR FLU JAB NOW signs.

And you know how it is, when folks try "pressure selling" I cant be having it, then can do one as far as I am concerned. I'm 100% convinced, because of how hard they spam the flu jabs, that it's a big money spinner for them. So they can bollox. (How stupid do I feel now?).

Gill, of course, kept pressing me to have one, but I was not having it. I'm sure she must now think it's my own fault, but she's not done the gloating thing. Yet.

We were booked to have a mini adventure in Basel on Monday, but I was way too unwell to even contemplate going, so I just dropped her off at Gatters & collected her in the evening & she went solo. I felt a bit of a cad but it could not be helped, I was just not fit to travel.

I'm fine now though, or nearly so.

Hope you are well. What's your take on Jose? Happy, embarrassed, fearful?

glad you're recovering TK,

i think more than being a money spinner for them, the flu jabs being pushed hard this time of year are a simple recognition that avoidable flus absolutely cripple the NHS by taking up precious winter beds with something that is a) avoidable and b) serious enough that it can kill (and does, every winter).
it's worth avoiding that (almost) any cost.

So anyway, if you know someone who qualifies for the flujab and they haven't had it, tell them to do themselves and the NHS a favour and go book an appointment to have it done.

If you don't qualify for a freebie, you can pay £6 for your flu jab at your local chemist. I can't remember the name, it's the one with the yellow front.

I wonder if they also do an Alzheimer's jab?

Yes, I'm sure you are right, it's just me being stupid/stubborn.

Flu can kill? Funny you should say that. I just finished reading Bryson's latest book, The Body & it's Occupants.

Very good, & I learned a great deal, but it was well below the standard I have grown to expect & love from Mr Bryson.

The one passage that stood out was him discussing 'Flu. He was ruminating with some senior Medical Professor bloke, & asking him what was the worst global illness we still have to worry about, now that stuff like diptheria, polio & TB are largely beaten. And he said, of all things, influenza, as it still kills hundreds of thousands of folks every year. (70,000 per annum in the USA alone).

One reason is that the flu strain each year is different, & until it starts, they can't produce the flu vaccine as it's specific to the particular strain of 'flu.

And I'm reading that whilst I've got really bad 'flu...

Not good timing, but I did feel a bit stupid, not for the first time I might add.

Anyway, thank you, & I'm getting my zip & crackle back now.
