Popped over to see tikay a little while ago. Despite him wearing one of his more sombre shirts, I was just about able to make him out from fifty feet away.

At that time, I was able to see his face above the chipstack, but I gather he has since doubled up to 48,000. The condition of neighbouring posteriors is as yet unknown. I felt it inappropriate to enquire.

On a nearby table, what seemed to be a fairly agreeable, kindly, old gentleman smiled, tapped the table, stood up, wished his now-former tablemates well and shuffled off the Omaha coil for this event. The smiles on the table were less enthusiastic when his seat was filled by a grinning Bruno Fitoussi. I imagine playing a mixed Omaha tournament and having Bruno smile at you is much like popping round for dinner at Dr Lector's and learning you go well with a malbec.

A further wander brought me to a table near the rail where a man in a baseball cap (askew) was informing his paid-up audience that he will play Uno or Monopoly with anyone for money. Only at the WSOP, ladies and gentlemen, thought this observer.

While imparting more wisdom about his mastery of all things Hasbro and Mattel, the capped crusader threw a single chip into the middle and announced "rah-zay". The dealer was a lady of some considerable experience and her tolerance for such idiosyncrasies was appropriately limited. She rolled her eyes, informed the chap that he didn't say "raise", waved off the pleas for clemency ("speech impediment", if you will!) and called for the floor in an excruciatingly maternal tone.

With the chap now the size of the monopoly dog and realising his "get out of jail free" card wasn't going to be of use, he apologised to the dealer, agreed his utterance was in the "things that aren't RAISE" category and accepted the ruling of it being a call. A masterstroke in policing the table. It was like seeing Nigel Owens calling on a number 8 to behave.

Run deep, tikay. Go get 'em.

Simon, that is some piece of writing. You should quit whatever you do & become a full-time writer. Tighty should do the same too.

good luck, those pictures of the orleans O8 game make me very nostalgic, maybe next year ill be there.

Hi Simon,

I think Orleans has become easily my favourite Vegas cardroom.

Easy to get to, free & ample car parking, & the room is superbly run & managed. Nice range of food options too. Hard to imagine any UK cardroom having 20 Omaha High Low tables on the go simultaneously.

How is your health these days, you coping OK?

Some things never change - this year's Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest was won by You Know Who, for the 7th straight year. I keep hoping he will choke on the damn things but he never does.

https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/news/2022/07/05/nathan-s-hot-dog-eating-contest-protesters-charged--nypd

Was quite an eventful occasion

“As soon as I grabbed the guy, I realized he was a kid,’’ the 38-year-old Chestnut said. “I felt bad afterwards. I was just amped up, just focused on getting back to eating."

Yes, I saw that.

I googled his earnings, & with endorsements & sponsors, he (supposedly) makes around $500,000 per annum for stuffing junk food down his throat.

What a weird world we live in.

Why don't you throw down the gauntlet for sticky buns?

I'll take a piece Grin

Vbol Tony I’ve only just seen this so missed out but no matter
We got home Sunday after 5 of the best vegas weeks ever on a combined honeymoon/ holiday
Played the least poker and the most slots ever and no roulette- my biggest leak

We both caught covid while there and were poorly with heavy flu symptoms in weeks 2-3
Now we need 10hrs sleep so we are in bed by 9 pm I just about managed to get up at 0600 yesterday n the day before for two days work ,but by 1600 was flagging
So please take precautions

Totally agree with one bullet ,is that an age thing ? Or a tight git thing ?    or a money is precious don’t waste it ?

Looking forward to reading more GL GL

I am glad to be home out of the vegas heat it’s draining
But now we have a heatwave 😂😂😂☀️☀️☄️☄️

He said he wasn't taking a second bullet, so don't know why people are sending them.

Hi Tony

The 2nd bullet thing? Might just be an age thing. Years ago yes, I'd have snap taken it, but it just felt wrong this time.

COVID? It's rampant here, so many people have it. like you, Doobs & others, I escaped it until this Spring, & I sure as hell don't ever want it again. I had no breathing difficulties, but I had a fearfully bad tummy for 10 days, and then a month or 6 weeks of chronic mental & physical fatigue which really knocked me for six. I doubt it will ever go away in our lifetime. I've had all my eligible jabs, 2 plus the booster, & in September I qualify for the extra one for vulnerable & elderly

How was Heathrow when you returned, long queues in Immigration or awaiting baggage?

Gotta love these updates.
I bet you’re happy when it gets around to BigO.
Loved this event back in19.
Hurry back, I’m hooked.

Hi Nick,

Yeah, Big O is the one I'm most comfortable with. I'm least comfy with Limit, find the betting format really quite difficult.

Nice feeling to get those mentions, good write ups, thanks for taking the time

Hi Glenda.

I think if folks buy action, it's a 100% obligation to at the very least do a write up, & it makes me cross when they don't. I still buy a little action here & there, but only in people who give me updates or reports. To be fair, mine are pretty lame compared to Stu Rutter who dos THE most wonderful updates, but I assume he is not in Vegas this year.

I did enjoy the mentions, though I'm not quite sure why. I'm at the age where ego & pride have long departed, but for some reason I was pleased to read them. I saw the Poker News writer who did them yesterday & I asked him how he knew me. Turns out he was an avid viewer of the Sky Poker TV Channel & one evening I said some kind words about his play & awarded him a spot prize. We chatted for 5 or 10 minutes yesterday & he's a smashing bloke, been out here updating since the end of May & does not go home for another 10 days.

If it's not too personal a question, how is your health these days? I've seen a fair bit of Chubby Chompy out here, do you two still see plenty of each other?

A half-hour walk you say - in that heat - you'll probably shed half a stone and be dripping wet!

Best of Rippish to you.

Thanks Ralph.

Yeah, the heat is furnace-like, but I divert through the Strip casinos - Harrahs, Casino Royale (?), Linq & Cromwell as I walk & the air-con gives some respite.

I've always believed that it's safe on the Strip, but when I walked back at 3am the other night it was definitely uncomfortably scary, with loads of aggressive drunks, smackheads & vagrants, far more than I ever remember. They stand in front of you demanding money & you have to bite your tongue, as a cheeky or rude reply might just have nasty consequences. I don't carry much money, but I do have Passport (needed for ID at the WSOP) & credit cards on me & it's easy to imagine getting whacked for them.

No big queues in immigration,my walking in flip flops is slow so I’m never in immigration early
Bit of a longer wait than usual for our bags but at least we got them
There were a lot of bags stacked up awaiting collection

Been home a week and wish we were still there were it not for that heat ,it was too hot for me
But we are already looking at a month next year ,going a bit earlier in May and as Denise is 60 we are trying to book a package holiday to Hawaii
Vegas always draws you back

BUSTO.

Details to follow when I've stopped sulking.

oh no.  will send monies when I work it out.

Big shout out to Bill Slaght whilst I am here.

I was in many hands with him in the 1500 PLO8.  He had a sliding doors moment when he was one of the better online players until black friday came along. At the time he was flying high, with a training site and I gather he was highly ranked, but stayed home with his young family rather than leaving to play elsewhere.

https://anteupmagazine.com/2012/01/25/poker-pro-bill-slaght-is-back-among-the-living/

Things went worse for him after that and he stopped playing poker for some years and only really started playing again 6 months ago (from memory).

Anyway, he outlasted me in the 1500 plo8.  He was talking about not been good enough for the 10k, but I reckoned he'd be above average in it, and I saw he gave it a go and cashed for 20k .  I don't know if he played the main, he was considering it, so guess he did.

Anyway, I think he is 5th in chips, if Barney Boatman doesn't win it, I hope he gets the lot.

PS hope he wasn't your nemesis Tikay.

Can't say I am familiar with him, & no, he was not my nemesis. Interesting read though.

I'd like Barny to win it, if not, I'm not fussed except for Men, who I saw yesterday but almost never recognized. A thoroughly nasty little man, rotten to the core.

Ha, I've eased up these days Ralph. I ballooned up to 15 stone during Lockdown & it was a long road getting back to sub 12 stone, so I'm a little more sensible these days. Have to admit, I've overdosed on "Foot Long Subs" from Subway this trip, which have been my go-to meal, preferably followed by a giant blueberry muffin. Bet I've added half a stone since I've been here.

On which note, congrats on your remarkable weight loss Ralph, amazing stuff. Great patience shown there.

Had no idea Men The Master was Men The Cheater till this morning. Every trick in the book it seems.

Play more next year imo and stick with the Bill Maynard look, it works well.

Vegas in the summer is too good to miss. Such a privilege roffling around casinos day in day out playing tournaments with good players. Can't do that in England.

175lb is optimal btw.

When you sit with good players you realise how not good you are ? Well I do anyway
But it’s always good to watch them in the live theatre
Like tikay says every hand is like xmas eve until you open them up and realise it’s Boxing Day
But sitting on them chairs is my pet hate ,my bum hurts my hips hurt my knees start playing up too so uncomfortable
I had a cushion but of course being old n pre Alzheimer’s I walked off n forgot it

Maurice Hawkins was the slickest player I saw in action

Health is pretty great, thanks for asking. I was 60 yesterday, not a milestone I thought id chalk up when I was 50. Also, incredibly have still dodged covid despite being a fairly early adopter of normal socialising as soon as it was allowed

Only been to Luton once in the last few years and Chompy goes rarely so i haven't seen him in in age. We're in touch pretty frequently though. Good to hear he's quite fat  :-)
