Wllie Tann did not look at one with the world, he seemed very down-at-mouth. He brightened up briefly when I enquired after Mrs Tann, but he seems a bit out of sorts right now. I hope things soon look up or him, he's always been very kind to me.

Stu Nash is a rare visitor to Luton these days. It's only 2 years - I think - since he very nearly won the European Rankings, he has great game. But he plays a big Private Cash-Game I think, & makes a tidy penny playing the big Cash-Games in London. We discussed DTD, & I think he'll be visiting Nottingham quite soon.

But it was Bushy who made my evening, & we shared a table from the start. Gary ain't ever gonna get elected to the Hall of Angelic Peeps, but he's a fascinating character - & many have forgotten that he was European Player of the Year (albeit in odd circumsances) only 3 or 4 years ago. He's a bit Tourney rusty, & told me he'll be back playing more Circuit Events in '08, maybe starting with Southend this weekend. He is, of course, big mates with Carlo, amongst others. If I'm not mistaken, he was Bankrolled into a WSOP Event a few years back by a mate & rewarded his backer with a 6 figure cash.

He has all these lttle pearls of wisdom, & if you share a table with him, listen up good & proper, & you can't help but learn. He dwelled up on a weird hand last night, & said to Matey Boy "I'm sure you've got nothing, I should push here", but he bottled it - that's what playing on a tight bankroll does - & Matey Boy duly showed the bluff. Garry was furious - with himself - & took me through his thinking afterwards. Sheesh, he worked the whole thing out impeccably, but just could not pull the trigger.

His exit was almost hilarious. He'd been pushed off two in a row, & announced - this being the third consecutive Raise he'd made - "I'm adopting the Lucy Rokach strategy this time - I never Pass when I've Raised for the third hand in a row".

He found a caller, & they saw a flop of 7-7-2. Matey Boy checked, Garry announced all-in - "this is my flop" & Matey Boy said "sorry Garry, I call, I think I've got lucky".

Garry rolled over his overpair - Nines - & Matey Boy, to the audible gasps of all at the table - showed 7-7, for flopped quads!

Oh, one more hand of note from the Tourney - & I bet this causes some disagreement, too.....

Ahhhhhhhhhhh Dennis 'the yank' barnes. Taught his wife to play poker you know. (MIchelle)

The A7 hand was one of the strangest i have seen.

With a player all in on the bubble, Dennis decided to raise to 16k on the button, with approx 100k back. The BB James, (i've been calling him Phil for the last 6 months) pushes for 150k approx with KK and Dennis 'insta calling' was amazing and you just knew the Ace was coming, and when it did (on the river) the whole casino knew about it. Dennie then proceed to yell, 'America loves a River'Huh?Huh?Huh??? Followed by a classic line to James, 'u should have folded pre flop' thought James was about to have him there and then.

BUt a great comp none the less and the players on the final table seemed  to be waiting for the re-ditribution of chips to take place before getting busy. And they did.......... Tho to be fair he did get his chips in with AK v JJ which crippled him v Adam and then A5 v 9 10 and the poker gods regained control.

Correct - Dennis Barnes. Like some car-drivers when they get behind the wheel of  car, his personality changes when he gets on a Table. He was as nice as pie off the table, but boy oh boy, did he give out some dreadful rubdowns.

Here's a really odd hand - what do YOU think? Nice Italian Gent - Dino? - v Anthony. Two very pleasant guys.

Dino has hit 3 or 4 sets, & is rampant, & is on the Button to Anthony. Dino has been nicking a few pots, & makes a legit Button Raise to 1,000 (Blinds are 100-200, this is early doors).

Anthony, in the BB, indulges in some verbals with Dino - perfectly good-natured - & suggests he might just push all-in, for 12,000! Twelve Thousand! The verbal sparring continues, & suddenly, after looking like passing, Anthony moves the whole 12k across the line - defending Dino's 1k bet.......!

He's barely uttered the "all" of "all-in" when Dino's 12,000 (same size stack) chips are in the middle, & Anthony ain't looking too well now.

Dino tables K-Q, & Anthony, err, 8-4. Suited, mind.

Obviously, Anthony hits - in fact, his 8-4 houses up - & Dino is out. Now, Dino ain't too happy about this - "8-4, 8-4?" he keeps chuntering to all & sundry, & one can see his point.

But really - & yes, I know he was a mile in front - but was that a wise call? Should we take that edge when we (think) we spot it, or is it daft to risk your whole Tourney, so early, on such a play. Afrter all, if he's against "live cards", he ain't much of a favourite, & Anthony could so easily have been dominating with AK or AQ.

It's a Pass for me - after the requisite acting & dwell up - every time. I'd rather Play myself to the Final. Or 38th place, as was the case last night. (Yes, I can see the irony there).

My my, that IS an extraordinary play. On the Bubble, too!

Anyways, I'm delighted for you Vinni, & so are, I'm sure, many others. And I'm jealous too - playing a Final Table with Jeff Buff on it is s good as it gets. Well done you.

That's the Gentleman.

Im iffy with names. I told you "Eddie" was in the Cash-Game too - in fact, I gather it was "Addie". What's an "A" between friends - unless they are paired?

The two of them were discussing it in the 'smoking lounge' last night, Mick says he knew Anthony was at it and thats why he called. He seemed genuinely stunned to lose the hand, but imo its not a call he should have made, think Anthony was trying to explain that to him lol. Mick wasn't having it tho lol

The difference between knowledge & information......

...is, according to a letter in The Times from Mr Elliott, in Pembrokeshire.....

"is nicely illustrated by a donkey with a whole encyclopedia loaded on it's back. He remains a donkey, but carries all that information. "Information" implies neither judgement nor skills, the acquisition of which involve practice exercises, experience & discipline".

One more "Times" letter.

Dr John Burscough says.....

"...should the Queens Internet video-sharing channel not be called OneTube"?

One can but concur.

The biggest hand all night last night (not involving me, I hasten to add) at Luton's Dealers Choice jobbie was a peculiar affair.

It's 6 card Hi-Lo, it's £3,200, every penny of which piled in on the 8-9-Q flop.

THREE players chopped the High, with T-J. But it came runner-runner low, & one player was holding A-2 & scooped the low, & a third of the high, for two-thirds of the lot.

The board came two diamonds, & Scoopy Low Man, holding 2 diamonds, afterwards noted "damn, if it comes a diamond, I scoop the lot"......

It's true, greed makes great players.

The irony......

It's table charge time in the Dealers Choice at Luton last night. Folks insist on putting in their £8, needing change from, say, £10, & instead of leaving the Dealer to sort the change, they mess with the money themselves.

Two players get in a tangle, & the charges end up £2 short. "I definitely put it in" says one "no you did not" says the other. Neither has the negotiation skills of a turd, & so they back each other into a corner, & it ends up in a barney, which continues for 5 minutes, as neither will concede ground. For £2......

A suggestion that they stick in £1 each is vetoed "on principle". "Why should I pay another £1?" says Lady Player. Man Player says the same.

The argument took 5 minutes which, at a collective £64 per hour, cost the table some £5 odd.

It eventually gets settled, both refuse to pay, & the House concedes the £2.

Next hand, it's straddled to £6, called by every player, Re-Popped by the Straddler to £50, & flat called by 6 players, including the two protagonists.........

My suggestion that is was a bit odd that they haggled for 5 minutes for a quid, but happily tossed in a flat call of £6, and another flat call of £50, without a moments thought, was not well-received. "Ahh, that's different".

We are a strange bunch.

lol this is soooo true, i went to my local shop today to get some coke zero, and on the shelf it said "buy one get one free", so i took two bottles up to the counter, £1.95 each, and the guy says " £3.90 please sir" and I spent 5 minutes arguing with him to get him to let me have 2 for the price of one, despite blowing a pretty good sum of money on the horses today and not giving a second thought. I guess its the principle rather then the sum of money, but how that got so ingrated into a "gamblers" mentality I'll never know.
