Looking at AP and UB in the very very very best possible way it is glaringly obv that they are a grossly incompetent company.
Interesting moral dilemma to be offered sponsorship by them I imagine.
I have no respect for seif, helmooth and duke who have made millions from the lieing cheating scumbags and AFAIK continue to do so.

So, who were there, mingling wth the great & good, & not so good, of the Poker Elite?
Top of the list have to be the blondes who won (or were given) their invites, & Tracey "dingdell" Dell & Claire "claw75" both looked wonderful,
Tracey in a beautiful, black evening gowny sort of thing
, & Claire with a nice top & what looked like her Daughter's hat., accent, & always looks very smart.
Thanks - the cotton skirt and similar top from the local M&S obviously became something else in the cab! If I knew you were that easily fooled......
Thanks to Tikay for strong arming all the celebs to meet Claire and I - they really didn't have an option to say no - and yes - Helmuth is tall - and as one of my 'hero's' I was unable to say anything apart from 'thank you' and 'they grow them big in America'. I am such a conversation stopper.......

Hence my raised eyebrows when Liv told me, I was completely unable to hide my shock. I guess it depends how badly someone wants the luxury of playing poker at a Sponsors cost.
I struggle to understand the commercial logic here, to be honest. How many more players signed up to, or became aware of, PokerStars, when they signed up Shannon Elizabeth as a Poker Ambassador? And I gather she's left them now, & signed for another major room, so clearly the trade thinks it works! Boris Becker was another that whooshed me. Why on earth would 'Stars think he'd improve their considerable fortunes? Folks play on Sites because they like the software, the range of games, the liquidity, & they trust the site operators. How does signing Shannon or Boris impact on any of those criteria?
'Stars never put a foot wrong, for years, & are a most impressive Company, with the Daddy of all Online Rooms. But they've made a whole bunch of odd signings recently, & maybe "the cycle" is taking it's inevitable course, & they are due the downturn that most very successful outfits suffer cyclically.

Interesting subject, and in general I'd say poker sponsorship will soon be exclusive to the elite poker players and the famous for something else players.
I think the strategy with people like Becker, Warne, Shannon Elizabeth etc is to embed the poker brand in the minds of those that dont play poker........yet.
Every minute someone somewhere watches an episode of WPT or wins a £5 homegame and falls in love with the game overnight. They're not looking for a good interface or variety of payment options yet, at this point they dont know what they are looking for. What they do know is that fit birds from American Pie was wearing X poker logo on a tight t-shirt or that Boris Becker was wearing a Pokerstars t-shirt at wimbeldon.
Do I think this is an effective form of marketing? Nope, but I think thats the rationale. Pretty soon it will be all sports stars and Full Tilt and Stars will be throwing stupid money at the Beckhams and the Rooneys of this world while the WSOP 2010 winner will be getting rejected by Duplicate Poker.

Hellmuth and Duke have been involved with Ultimatebet for years and there's no evidence they were involved with, or knew about, anything dodgy. The Ultimatebet superuser fuss is not as cut and dried as the Absolute one was, so I think it's a bit unfair to have a go at the players for it.
The Absolute side of things is a complete and utter mess, however, and they have zero credibility with anyone who knows anything about poker. Not just because of the fact there was a superuser scandal, but because of the way they treated their players once the news broke. I must admit I'm surprised Liv wants to get into bed with them. She was surely aware of what happened?

We also had non-stop chuntering all night about the "move table" protocol, & it all got rather unpleasant, & quite spoilt my night. Luton need to do what
dt
d
did to overcome the usual childish petulance & stupidity of poker players - introduce a written protocol, & if anyone don't like it, they can bugger off.
what exactly have DTD done? I've seen a couple of mentions of it but have completely missed what the changes are

But Hellmuth and Duke's involvement in UB dates from way before the hook-up with Absolute - they can hardly be held responsible for what happened there.

i have not said that they are responsible. they are however promoting a company that at best is completely inept and at worst a bunch of thieves.

I'm pretty sure Hellmuth and maybe Duke are not just sponsored by UB but actually own part of it, which makes it less likely they would break ties.
