Also why is it that in poker your verbal declaration is binding on every street, but not at showdown. In Compo's hand he declares "Aces" at showdown, but is not held to that declaration, whereas on other streets any declaration is binding whether it is a mistake or not.
Its not when referring to your hand strength, quite the opposite. If you tell someone your exact hand down the streets its dead. You can say anything apart from your true holding, which is a farce imo,.The only time you can reveal your true hand is at showdown.

That's not the ruling everywhere.

Firstly thanks to TK for everything. You are a true mate...and that doesn't just refer to last night!! ( no innuendo please)
In Luton you are allowed to say what your hand is during the betting.
Odds were calculated pre-decimal and reflect £sd. Most notably 8 half crowns to the pound thus 11/8 is 1 and 3 half-crowns to a pound. Perfect. 6/4 is because when 3/2 is written it can be mistaken for 5/2, and vice-versa. 100/30 is for 5 pounds to 1.50 or a 100 shillings to 30. it is a natural step between 3/1 and 7/2.
I think I am up to date

Fancy Tikay trying to pretend that he doesn't remember pre-decimal £sd, mind you he may have forgotten.....

How come we rarely see 21/20 which would be ideal in the days of Guineas, for the youngsters amongst us in other words everyone except TJ..........1 Guinea = £1 + 5 Shillings and there are 20 Shillings in a £.

21/20 is one of the ;prices we introduced into the footy prices, When compilling there is actually a big % difference between 11/10(47.61) and evens(50%), 21/20 fills that gap nicely.

decimals ftw
decimals are the daddy really, no real need for traditional prices and you can be the exact price you want to be instead of the one nearest to it.

Post Of The Month Nomination.
Tucked away in the back of the Forum, in a lightly trafficked but very useful snoopy-inspired Section - Poker Festivals - which most of you will not have seen, was this purler.
snoops wrote this, of the Sussex Masters.....
Looks like a good event with plenty of affordable comps for the average circuit player
Portfolio then asked, tongue, one suspects, firmly-in-cheek.......
quantify average please.
To which our resident Witster, one Red-Dog replied in such a manner as to doubtless require several new keyboards.....
Fat/Awkward
He's not wrong.
even i concur

Errrrrrrmmm, again regardless of my thoughts, the rule at DTD is your hand will not be killed if you state your exact hand, but it is very poor etiquette to state any hand.

Michelle Orpe is doing the Sky Poker Show tonight, & she got lucky - she has me as her sidekick/Analyst.
She's been in Make-Up since about 4pm. I have a hunch she plans to Propose to me, Live on air, tonight.
Any & all Congratulatory e-Mails to the Show are welcome, & we'll try to read 'em out.
She runs so good.
PS - Yup, it's Spam, pure & simple.
