so I meant to add to that...if you merely raise Tom all in to isolate saying nothing..there's no problem.

I am trying to say (don't want to offend you, not meaning to) that perhaps its an unwanted bi-product of the chatter that leads you to the odd situation like this (clearly not justified but it gave him an opening Mr Myob)

Mr MYOB is clearly very wrong here, and I won't argue (though I disagree) with your decision to pass, except to say why not ask for a ruling and take the aggro out of it? the ruling must surely back you up, you push in and away you go.

However, if I may be possibly impertinent, what is with the huge volume of speechplay/moodies (innocent and playful moodies) that is in your game at the moment?

is it a conscious thing? I can understand you bantering with me or other friends/frequent table opponents but its seems to be more indiscriminate than that on occasions lately.

Do you think it serves you well? Are you aware how OTT it can come across/be perceived by those who don't know you? Or is merely you having fun/part of the experience you wish to enjoy at the table?

Thinly veiled Tikay shut up thread IMHO Wink

Yes, you are most probably right Rich. I just think poker tables - at our level - should be fun places, rather than the province of sour-faced mardybums. But you are correct, if I sat there schtum, it would not have arisen. But really, is it so bad to have a little banter "OK Tom, let's go to war" without a bloody barney? Do we all have to sit there quietly & with curly lips?

I think it's a thinly-veiled "give it a rest from all that blathering" Post. Wink

What kind of fuckery is this?

Yep. It's not about aggro or bad blood or anything like that. It's about control. And if you are too sensitive you will be controlled. If Tikay wanted to move all-in but passed I think this an overly sensitive re-action by someone who is allowing non-poker related considerations to control him. Feck this guy. He's sticking his big nose into a pot that he's not even considering entering with some ambiguous remarks that have no substance. lol at him and his ridiculous war-related theories. If he gets the hump when I tell him about how things are then that's nobody's fault but his own. It's nice to be happy at the table but I'm not going to bend over backwards to make that a reality.

A Ruling was given after Mr MYOB refused to accept the Dealers word that he was wrong. So Floor were called, same result. So Mr MYOB says "OK, if they both say I'm wrong, I'm wrong. ......but I'm not".

And I thought, "sod this, I don't need this crap".

As to the rest of your Post, well it's got me thinking, & you might have a point. I was troubled, stressed & unwell one night last week, & sat at the Table quietly one night, & at least 6 or 7 players complained - "why so quiet tikay"?

It's just a game of poker Rich, it's a recreation, surely it's OK to lark about a bit? You never sat with Des Jonas, Red-Dog, Mad Turk? I may not be up to their banter-standard, but they make a Table so much more fun, & that's all poker is - a game of fun. It's not a thing to take too seriously, imo.

But I hear you, & will now have to have a ponder.

Isn't going to war a signal of aggressive intent which would clearly demonstrate an intention to raise rather than an intention to passively call?

not if you say it to a player who is already all-in.

can't believe you passed the JJ there Tony, I do worry about you sometimes.

I Passed purely & simply because I can't be doing with the aggro, & if I win that hand, it would be "tainted" by the argument. It's fair to say I Passed in "pique", too. If you wanna win my money, start an argument, & I'll give you the money, I just can't be arsed arguing with players who have single-figure brain cell counts. I - we all, (at our level) surely? - play for fun, not to have a barney.

But I took enormous pleasure in seeing him Bust-Out Pre-Final, whilst I went on to Cash. Happy Days Mr MYOB, eh?

so do you pass QQ here? KK? AA? surely you have to to stop the hand being tainted by the argument

Talking of Flushy effiminance, he graced the Sky Brighton Day with his presence - invited especially as a "Celeb"! - & livened up proceedings a treat, he was on great form. I was a bit bothered by the pics on blonde showing him with a Sailor, so here's on to redress the balance. The young chap with him is one Barbara Viola, a very tidy player indeed.

sorry to interupt the proffessional thread but i cant believe nobodys mentioned it yet but c'mon look at flushys face, he's terified!

I told Snatty to put a cork in it at the poker table once, he went into a huge pseudo sulk and swore he wouldn't speak again (except to bet etc) for the rest of the game.

He lasted two hands before he forgot himself and started blathering again. I wouldn't have him any other way.

Of course, I Pass every hand here.

What's not perhaps obvious is my obsession with not getting involved in stupid arguments with guys who have never heard of "conciliatory". I spent 35 years at work doing that for a living, & I now help to run a Poker Forum. Wink

When I play Live Poker, I escape from all that into my dream world, where we just go play, & have ourselves some fun. It's mad, I know, but we all have our weird little phobias, & mine is not arguing with myopic donkeys.

There was - changing course slightly - a most revealing debate last night about "showing hands" voluntarily. As most of you know, I tend to show more often than not, though not always.

Well, Mr FKA was telling all & sundry "I never show, because if gives out information to other players, do you see?" he says. And of course, he is correct. Or is he?

The opposite argument applies equally. Showing (some) hands is equally effective in showing other players what you want them to see. But try telling that to Mr FKA "I never ever Show". He read it in a book, & does not have the ability to question a book (books are gospel). Nobody with a ounce of commom-sense could not agree that you can use "showing" or "not showing" with equal effectiveness. Ingrained dogma, & the inability to question it.

On Monday, at Luton, there were a mere 20 odd runners, so only 3 or 4 were paid. It's a 9 man Final, so, 10 handed, on two Tables, they announce "hand-for-hand". I politely enquire - simply because I'm interested - why it's hand for hand. (Same thing happened last night, 38 runners, 5 paid, but hand-for hand was played). "Because that's the Rules, ask Mr Tamplin (the Grosvenor Big Suit) if you are not happy". "Yes, but why are those the Rules?". "Dunno". I mean, if someone tells me I only get paid if I stand on my head all day, I'll do it, gladly. But I have to know why! Anyway, I'm rambling here.

That's not true. He lasted one hand before he was back in full-flow. Bloody good job too, a Table full of sour-faced scowlers is no fun at all, but get a snatty on board, & we are away with the sausages.

In Luton last night, a "mature" young lady, very demure & proper & aunty-Maude-ish, & in a wheelchair - "Cherelle" or similar? - asked what "Wife" stood for. We all shrugged our shoulders. "Washing, ironing, ****ing etc" says the innocent old girl. Gotta love her. She cashed, too, 6th I think, for a £100 saver.

Tikay, did you know that in world history there has only been 1 war when 2 democratic countries have declared war on each other.

Can you name the war and the 2 countries?
