Yes.
Think islands. Think the most punctual mainline railway company in the UK.
Edit - Silo - correct. Ryde Esplande to Ryde Pier End. About 700 metres. Standard gauge track (I think - at least it's the same as the rest of the Island Line anyway).

The Island Line also has connections to the Isle Of Wight Steam Railway, which is more TK's cup of tea . They's got some nicely restored and maintained engines on about 5 miles of track.

These days, they use 1938 vintage ex LT (LU these days) Piccadilly Line rolling stock. But then most of you knew that already.
Thst paint job is just scandalous though.

Actually it runs all the way through to Shanklin, once upon a time there was a whole IOW network but sadly the Pier-Shanklin link is the only section left. The carriages are ancient too lol.
It only takes about 20 mins for the whole journey.

The only people that use the Ryde to pier section of the train are people with luggage, the wooden boards on the pier aren't exactly easy to manoeuvre with suitcases lol. Other than that it's only a few minutes walk.

why would people with luggage want to go to the end of the pier and more to the point why would they want a season ticket? is the IOW full of crazies going up and down on the train every day with suitcases full of chickens?

The end of the pier services ferry/hovercraft across the solent (IIRC), hence luggage.
The original article was saying that with a "gold card" you could then get discounts on lots of other stuff. You can buy this ticket from Esplanade to Pier End without even setting foot on the Isle of Wight for the entire year.

Not yet but when he retires that is exactly what TK is planning on doing.

Sigh, sometimes you just have to spell it out in black and white.
The pier head has one of the links to the mainland (fastcat via wightlink) so obviously people are using it with luggage! A large number of people also commute to the mainland to work, hence the season ticket, in fact, my children have school friends that come over from the Island for school.
But yes, the IOW is full of crazies too.
