One of the first ever films was of a train. It came towards the camera and everyone in the cinema cowered and ducked because they thought it was coming towards them, they'd never seen anything like it before and weren't sure what to make of it.

I believe that still happens today in Norwich.

 Cheesy

The Holte End used to sing a song on behalf of Norwich fans in the very early 90s.

"We cont read, we cont write,
but that don't really matterrrrrrrr,
'cos we are Norwich City fans,
and we can drive our tractorrrrrrr."

Grin I've heard the Plymouth fans sing similar about themselves.

A Mate of mine, John "Cos I'm fat" Smith said

"Everywhere you look in Norwich there is someone bent double, trying to rip something out of the ground"

Just looked outside my front door and nobody bending over here . . . . .

Did you look out through your mail box?

Letter box was sealed up many moons ago to stop the Skalies peering through to see if you were in or not, ahhhh yes maybe you all have a point.

What's a Skalie?

He means "scally". Thusly.....

Noun. 1. A miscreant, an irresponsible, self-assured lout, usually male. Abb. of scallywag. This derogatory term has been in prolific use from the early 1990s.
2. A person, usually young, who typically wears casual, brand-name sportswear, such as Nike, Addidas and Reebok etc., baseball caps, and boots, often Rockport. Usually associated with town/city dwellers.
* Scally was also a term for a Liverpudlian youth, used in and around Liverpool itself and was possibly the forerunner of the current expression, however the use of it in this form is now rare.

Round here, we use an alternative word - "bolt".

As a reward for being Huddersfields first olympic gold medalist Anita Lonsborough was bestowed the honour of having these flats named after her.

         the lonsborough flats.
unfortunately they are now subject to a planning application to be demolished along with the sports centre next door to make way for a new Tesco supermarket.
Its a shame really as the view of the gassworks from here is second to none and also the magnificent Galpharm stadium.

Isn't it a bit of an insult to have that named after you?.

Makes Huddersfield look like a bit of a shit hole.

Am feeling terific today - the aches, pains, swelling, worry, have all disappeared, & I'm like a dog with two legs.

The confusion (tablet-induced, I hasten to add) still reigns, though, as I completely forgot a meeting Booked for 1pm in Isleworth today, & arrived 2 hours late. Oops. Good meeting though.

Two Live Shows to do tonight, both with Richard Orford.

Sky Poker Unlimited (30 minutes) is at 9pm, just blathering about poker really.

Five-O is at 10pm, & Simulcasts on Sky Sports, & we have two decent Guests....

David May - footballer chappie, used to play for Man Utd & Blackburn.

Neil Foulds - snooker chappie, now big into Greyhounds.

Any questions for them, put them on here, or send them to the Studio.

Oh, & we'll be revealing some interesting Live Poker News tonight, too.....

No idea of what plans I have for Friday & Saturday, but I'm working Sunday. I could go play the Equal Chance £300 on Fri/Sat, but getting to Walthamstow on a Friday night is such a PITA. A rest might be sensible.

Tomorrow is a whole day on e-Mails, groan.

Can't believe how much better I feel - I take good health for granted until I'm unwell, & when the illness passes, it's such a great feeling.

Had an awesome night at Luton last night - several threads allude to it. Compo was involved in everything, the utter fish, he's an embarrassment to me. I finished 10th, was in bed by 1am, & slept for 10 hours straight through.

Only now do I realise how bad I felt last week. Now I'm raring to get stuck in.

Step aside.

Makes Huddersfield look like a bit of a shit hole.
[/quote]
its certainly not the best end of Huddersfield thats for sure, its located on the bottom ring road in the first circle of squalor.by that i mean imagine a dart board the bull is the town centre wich is very nice, loads of decent shops, pubs, etc. then the outer bull is the ring road, industry and flats for the err less fortunate. a not very nice area at all.then we have the next section upto the treble line wich is council estates galore and boarded up pubs with a few no go areas depending on exactly wich race you are and area you are in.Outside this area things start to become much better rather rapidly, nice little villages dotted about, friendly pubs ,extortionate house prices etc.
basically the same demographic as most large towns i suspect.those without money live in the built up urban/comercial areas.those with money live outside in the villages and green areas.

there was recently a mini riot at the lonsborough flats where the residents(mainly asylum seekers) were not very happy about the 20" portable tvs the council had provided them all with.
So they preceded to throw them from their balconies and make as much nuisance as possible until the council turned up with widescreens.

From Sky News......

A campaigner dressed as Batman is on a gantry above the motorway, affecting traffic travelling anti-clockwise between junctions 14 and 15.

Holidaymakers heading for Heathrow are among those hit by the rush hour stunt on one of Britain's busiest roads.

The Highways Agency said traffic jams were stretching back to junction 16.

It is thought the protestor is linked to F4J, whose members frequently dress as superheroes during campaigns.

The group was formed in 2002 to campaign for improved father's rights in the family courts and improve access to children after a divorce or separation.
