How to Play Aces. Not.

In the £200 Final at DTD on Sunday, with Blinds 1k-2k, & 8 players left, it went.....

Limp

Limp

Limp

Limp ( Button).

Make up.

Check.

The Button had? Aces! So he elected to take a flop 6 handed, unless either of the Blinds Raised. Needless to say, his Aces got turmed over.

"Creative play".

I seem to remember Stuart Nash playing them the same way in a fessie event at your table a couple of years ago and you described his play as "beautiful", however he did get the expected squeeze play from one of the blinds allowing him to come over the top afterwards.

In that case if I recall correctly (& I may not), he correctly anticipated that the BB would squeeze, & squeeze he did.

The Comp was in Bolton if I'm not mistaken, Stuart was in Seat 2, I was in Seat 6, & Praz Bansi was in Seat One & made a quite spectacular bluff a little later.

At DTD, the Button had no idea what the Blinds might do. He just decided to take the Flop 6 handed.

It's not the limping with A-A that's the problem if you expect a raise, it's the committing of all your chips on the flop when one didn't come.

Correct.

Which brings us neatly back to my KK play at DTD last week.....

I had 2% of my stack invested, I had 5 callers behind me, & the Flop came 6-7-9, two hearts.

What would those Callers have called my Pre-Flop Raise with? Small pairs. Connectors. Suited connectors. Rag Aces.

What was the chance someone was all over that Flop? We now know one guy had the straight draw, one had the flush draw, & one had flopped a set. The first two draws both hit on the 5 of hearts turn. I got away for 200 chips, 2% of my stack.

I got some gentle mocking for my "weak" play, failing to lead on the Flop, but I am 100% happy that I'd played it optimally.

The texture of the flop just stunk.

It amuses me when some wag at the Table says "I put you on T-T" (or whatever), & I often fancy asking "what colour?" just for the craic, but I think we can "sense" when a flop is a bad texture for our hand.

Well done Tracy, and claire.......................running hot the blonde ladies at the mo.

Tony, have a lovely time at the hospice,it's just down then road from me,they do some excellent work, you'll be impressed.

I'm really bricking at the thought of it to be honest Brendan, but I'm not gonna back out.

And I'm not sure if it would be appropriate or "correct" to take some pictures or not. I'd like to raise awareness of these kids who are having it real tough, but I would not wish to patronise or embarrass them.

Monday will be a bit of a test for me, but I'm sure it will do me good to see how these kids cope, &, equally important, how their carers & nurses manage, too.

My Aunty Doris (my Mum, sort of) worked in an Institution in Reigate, which cared for people in a vegatitive state, & I could never bring myself to go visit. We shy away from these things in life.

A long-standing & much repected blonde returned to blonde recently, in the last few weeks. He's been away, abroad, & not too well for a while, so when he came back, I wrote him a little "great to have you back" note, as I usually would when a friend returns.

He replied to me, along the lies of "I tell you what mate, that PHA Board has not half improved, there's some terrific advice on there these days".

I was made up by that.

The PHA Board used to be a bit of a nightmare, all sarcasm & mocking. But eventually, everyone got the idea, & it's quite heavily used now.

Avoiding that sort of mocking nonsense was precisely why we started this Forum. Finding somewhere where our plays, good & bad, could be sensibly & constructively debated, in an educating & hopefully humorous manner, & without taking the piss out of those who don't, perhaps, play the game as well as some, was something we really wanted to do.

So you can understand how pleased I was to get that note, only two days ago as it happens.

But Murphy's Law came into effect. A brand new Member came on & Posted a hand, & it looked, to some, like a 50p in the tin Bad-Beat Tale. Maybe it as, maybe it was not. Sadly, there was no benefit of the doubt for Mr Noobie, & he got ripped to shreds. I'll be pleasantly surprised if he Posts again.

There are some who think that's the way to teach people, to mock them. They'd make pretty poor teachers imo.

This Forum disgusts me at times, it really does.

I've been to a Children's hospice one time.

It struck me as a place with more happiness and laughter than many other places I've been to.
I think you may be pleasantly surprised.

Yes. Even in a non-smoking house in those days, it was considered polite to offer a smoker an ash-tray & invite him to smoke, & rude not to offer. Smoking in a non-smoking house, when a guest, was perfectly normal, & acceptable.

Times change, in this case, for the better. Manners mean nothing these days, but to smoke in a non-smoking house would be considered sacrilege. Quite right, too.

Oh my Lord!

I swear, I knew nothing about that!

I was Invited down to the TWPC National Grand Finals to be a sort of "guest" bloke, (I know, I know!......) & saw it as an opportunity to spread the Sky Poker name, & also go visit the Hospice in East Grinstead which TWPC helps support.

I was not even aware that there was a Dog meeting happening.

This is all starting to look a little embarrassing.

The guy who runs TWPC - a lovely chap - wrote to me this morning & asked "can you bring a prize, perhaps a book or something which you can autograph for our Raffle?".

At which stage I started to wonder. Have they mixed me up with someone else?

My feet are starting to get seriously cold. This has the makings of a severe embarrassment.

I wonder who they think I am?
