Facebook, thank God, must be nearing it's peak popularity now, & no "invention" has soaked up, uselessly, more time than that piece of poo. "Social networking", bollox, it's a time-sponge.

It's become nothing more than a spam medium. We all profess not to like being spammed, but every organisation has a Facebook page now, & we get informed of every two-bit Freeroll on every two-bit site on earth.

But for those of us who thought relief from Facebook was at hand, hold up - Twitter is next, it would seem.

And we MUST have Twitter, right? Jonathan & Russell have it, so it must be good.

Anyway, for business reasons, I've been taking a look at Twitter.

Oh my God.......

Today I perused a "Twitter Analysis for Marketing & Professionals" (which runs to 29 frigging pages!) & tells us all we want to know. It's anther spamming machine, no more, no less. As such, it' probably brilliant, but don't be fooled - that's what it is, a SDM. (Spam Delivery Medium).

Did you know a whole new cottage industry has grown up as Twitter parasites?

There is Tweetdeck, Twhirl, Twitpic (are they serious - TWITPIC?), Twitterholic, Twitturly, Tweepler, Tweetscan, ReTweet, Retweetist, & Twtpoll. Many of these are what are now known as "apps". Another new word, "apps".

It's all "how to optimise Twittter to get more business" really.

CNN is the leader in the Twitterholic Top 100, with nearly a million followers - see, it's "business" - & Barrack Obama is in 5th place with about three quarter of a million "followers".

The eye-catcher is in # 2 spot, with 873,333 "followers". (A Twitter "follower" is like a disciple, I guess). And who is that Twitterer?

Britney Spears.

Who said Americans were shallow?

heres a question that I used to ask my boys when they were younger ... some of their answers were quality

How do fighter plane pilots fire their machine guns through the propellers without hitting them ?

I used to know the answer to that as a kid, but with age I've forgotten...something like synchronizing machine gun to blade rotation?

Weren't the weapons on the wings on a Spitfire? Presumably positioned and pointing to fire shells wide of the propellor?

I don't know much about Twitter, but is it really that different to the diary threads on blonde, or blogs in general?

From what I know, the best comparison is facebook status updates - you can (or could, it might have changed) only use 144 characters per 'post' on twitter.

The whole interweb can do one as far as I'm concerned.

Apart from blonde, 2+2 and Benedict Cumberbatch online.

Won a WPT, & netted runner-up gongs in a WSOP Bracelet Event, & a WPT, & won a tidy comp in Europe while in his playing poker & travelling phase, & won over $2,000,000 in a short but controversial career, which included being barred from the WSOP by Harrahs. Recently, he said......

I set out to write a response.......... and quickly realized that I might as well be trying to write a novel in swahili. I cannot express how distant, foreign and irrelevant poker now seems to me.

And......

I've just spent way more than enough of my life playing cards

So he's lost forever to poker, but his blog remains just about the best on the net.

After poker, he did "pro-scrabble" for a while, & he dotes on daughter Ivey like you cannot believe, giving us chapter & verse on the young prodigy's every word. She's some bright kid, too.

He made a bomb selling his software Company 10 years back, but has made 10 times as much by shrewdly investing in shares of Mr Job's Apple empire.

If you want to Post on his Blog, go ahead, but I warn you.....

1) Do NOT Post-Off Topic. The ultimate sin in his eyes.

2) He does not suffer fools gladly, & you'll be flamed to death by him if he deems you a fool.

Try & take a look at Paul Phillips Extempore Journal now & then. Breath of fresh air. Thinking outside the box, just as he did at poker. No man ever described poker hand-play, or meta-game, better than Paul, but now he's moved on, his words are still worth their weight in gold.

If only every Blog was even half as good.

http://extempore.livejournal.com/

PS - His commentry on the televised Barcelona WHUPC is still the greatest piece of poker commentary ever ever. Ever.

He's sick of poker.....so calls his daughter Ivey. Nice.

No comparision Claire. Twitter is sort of P2P, it gets sent to you, & is thus intrusive, as I see it.

Blogs & Daries might well be worse quality content, (some clearly are) but you have to make a conscious effort to seek them out, by choice, so to speak.

It's a fashion thing, like Facebook, & it will run it's course for a few years I suppose.

For now, sign up. It's obligitary. Tweet away. Like Britney.

Well she is almost 5, so was born in '04 or '05, while he was still playing poker. He can hardly change her name! But she was not named after Phil Ivey.

Marilyn Chambers died on Monday.

Who?

Well I'd never heard of her, either - but she was, it seems unique.

She was the first woman to be the advertising face of a soap product, (her face was on all the pckets), &, the first woman to have sex with a black man in a porn movie.

I saw mention tonight of Jim Britton, which was odd, because I was thinking about him a few days ago, having been reminded of him by seeing Mike Magee at Luton over the weekend.

At one time, Mike had some sort of sponsorship deal which was brokered by Jim, I seem to recall - Corals maybe, I can't exactly remember.

Jim Britton was a massive forum presence on all Forums 5 or 6 years back, under various aliases based around "Celtic_Tiger". He was the most arrogant man you ever met, & where he Posted, (mainly THM in those days, which was not Moderated at th time) trouble always followed, with threats & all sorts.

The thing with Jim was that he was not just a keyboard warrior, being brave & flaming everyone from the safety of his PC, he was actually the same in real life.

Sharing a table with Jim was never pleasant - I think he invented trash talk - but he was easy meat, & quite hopeless at poker. Johnny Raab always used to stick him in the betting for every Event as 500/1, just to wind poor Jim up. And it worked.

He had a mega-Affiliate deal, as I recall, but they changed the parameters, he lost a shed-load of affiliate income, & I've never seen or heard of him since. He had a lovely missus, very pleasant she was, a very odd couple they made. Jim used to drink heavily at the poker Table, too, which is one of those things everybody hates, as he was very much an aggrressive drunk.

Last time I saw him was at Gutshot, I think, or maybe at The Vic, in about 2001, when he tried to tlt up Barny Boatman,  who subsequently bust him.

Later, after blonde started, he was desperate to cut some fancy deal with us, & pestered me for weeks, 'phoning up every day, time & time again. "This deal will make you millions Tony", he repeated endlessly. Eventually, I stopped returning his calls, but he persisted for an age. He struggled to read situations I think. I was in Vienna with Rhow & Dave one time, & he buttonholed us in a restaurant. One by one, we made our excuses & left, "just popping to the toilet" we each said, never to return. I doubt Jim noticed.

Camel apart, I doubt many on here will even remember him.

Lennie Bennett -  he of Lenny & Jerry - died last week. To be fair, if you ever saw his act, he was well-practised at dying.

He was one half of Lenny & Jerry, double acts were the thing at the time, with Morecombe & Wise, Cannon & Ball, Little & Large etc all at it. They were all pretty naff, though not as naff, dare I say, as Ant & Dec.

He came to fame on "The Comedians", as did Bernard Maning, Roy Walker, Mike Reed, Tom O'Connor, Jim Bowen, & Russ Abbott. Some Show that.

He split with his comedy partner, & slid down the ratings, ending up presenting Daytime TV on Anglia Television, which must be the very bottom of the Terrestial TV ladder, but made a good living on th After-Dinner Speaking circuit, before illness curtailed that.

He ended up in Blackpool or somewhere equally dreadful, with a market-stall burger bar named "Fat B'stards.

He died of a fall, aged just 70. Scary.
