Just experienced a surreal conversation with the confident, but amicable Thomas Wahlroos. It all started when he noticed that I shaved this morning, and I commended him for observing these little details that many don't spot. We then moved on to moustaches, Thomas saying that his father had a moustache for many years before recently shaving it off. Just to prove a theory that I have held for many a year, I asked if he'd grown it back yet, and as expected, the answer was 'yes'. It's weird that, whenever I hear of someone shaving off a mousache, they always grow it back soon after as if they miss that furry friend that once lay beneath their nostrils. Damn, I knew there was a question that I should have asked Humberto.

Sitting opposite the Stack Shover is the Sheriff of Nottingham, Nick Gibson, having exchanged the damp conditions of Windsor for the sunny shores of the Bahamas. His 2008 form hasn't started too swimmingly though, having bubbled in the satellite with Aces versus Queens. He took home 600 bucks for his efforts, but still made a loss on the satellite and, of course, had to stump up the $8k to play. Ouch.

Karl Mahrenholz just won a decent pot off fellow Brit Gary Blaby.

He check called 1k, 1.4k and then 2.5k on a board with A-9 against Blaby's J-9.

Elsewhere, William Thorsen called two bets with on a board, before he and his opponent checked the river. His elderly opponent showing an inferior before mucking.

Scouring the room for any gems I can finds, I found a diamond in the rough with Table Hachem, the line up enough to make Doyle Brunson develop butterflies.

Bill Edler -- 15,550
Jeff Banghart -- 20,850
Joe Hachem -- 23,250
Gunnar Ostebrod -- 17,175
Mats Iremark -- 23,000

Hit Squadder Karl Mahrenholz is currently on 22k. He hasn't seen too much action thus far, but has managed to Flop not one, but two flushes. The first one was in the blinds, and only garnered 200 in chips, but the second hit on a raised hand, meaning that the booty was slighty more lucrative.

What seems to be at the top of Karl's mind, however, is not how he's going to progress to Day 2, but the fact that David Banyamine, or a lookalike at the very least, is sitting next to him. In fact, he seems to be immensely excited to be seated next to such an esteemed lookalike.

Sigh, taking a second glance, is it just me, or has that random woman in the background intentionally nipped into my photo for her 15 seconds of fame?

The first photo I took today was a nerve-tingling experience. As soon as I walked into the room, it wasn't the gleaming face of Negreanu or the fleshy surface of half naked girls walking around that caught my eye, but this giant cigar being inhaled by what you might call a Farha-alike. With lightening reactions, I whipped out the camera with the intention of taking a pointless snap of the impressive Cuban cigar, but just as I pressed the flash, the Farha-alike sensed something was up and quickly turned around to face the camera. As the flash startled him like a deer in headlights, he gave me the most suspicious of "why the hell are you taking a photo of me" looks followed by a more menacing "I'm going to get you" glare. Gulp, I hope he isn't mafia! Either way, I decided to pretend that I took the photo by accident by glancing down at my camera bemused, tapping it on the side and quickly heading off tail between my legs.

Anyhow, here he is, I don't know his name, but take a look at that cigar. Isn't it big? Who says size doesn't matter?

Oh, and if Floppy repeats his 'close but no cigar' gag in the form of a post, be sure to commend his effort with a laughing smilie so his feelings don't get hurt.

Is that a Pokerstars "freebie" cigar? looks the same as the ones they were giving away at the APPT in Manila

Steve Jelinek has also been located, and so I took the opportunity to prise Irena Liepina's hand that forced Dave Colclough to fold A-T on an A-T-8 rainbow Flop yesterday. Initially, she'd told Dave that she had Pocket Eights, which made El Blondie feel more at ease about his monster fold, but I learned today that she actually had the inferior holding of T-8.

It was an intriguing hand in truth. Irena limped in late position, Dave raised it up from the button and Irena called. A-T-8 rainbow Flop. Irena checked, Dave bet 700, she made it 2.2k (I believe) and Dave re-raised to 6.5k. Irena pushed and Dave thought and though like Rodin's The Thinker before making a big fold.

Would you have folded or called? I haven't made my mind up yet, but it's a tough one, especially given that this is Irena's biggest tournament to date.

When I asked Steve if he could have folded A-T in that spot, he amusingly repleid, "Well, I couldn't fold top pair for half my stack a moment ago, so possibly not."

The forever changing locks of current EPT Monte Carlo Champ Gavin Griffin have been located, this time displaying a relatively low key barnet. But as I observed his hair with a keen eye for any sudden changes in tone, I noticed a big hand unfolding on his table. With chips aplenty in the middle, the board read and Seat 1's Matthew Giannetti had confidently slid in circa 15k, thus putting Griffin's immediate neighbour to a decision for virtually all his chips. After a few umms and aahs, he eventually folded.

Jeff Kimber is OUT, an unhappy circumstance of running A-Q into quad 8's on a Q-8-3-x-8 board against a player who'd twice previously made big river bets but folded to raises. He then held Jx on a J-T-7-x board (3 spades) against 9-8 for a 30k pot which didn't go his way. He's thinking about possibly entering the $2k Pokerstars Battleship comp on Tuesday, (Dan Carter is also planning to enter this).
