I'm loving all the new diaries.

Soon everyone on blonde will have one, and then, who knows, we could become the next Facebook.

PS- If it's OK, I'll take my 9 billion now please.

Me too. What % of them will endure beyond, say, Easter, do you think? Leave Mondy aside, of course, he's made of sterner stuff.

Facebook issued some shares yesterday to raise some funding. It valued Facebook at £32 billion, which is more than the value of Boeing, aka "The Boeing Company".

FT's Lex has FB as a strong "sell". Barely a month ago shares were trading privately at an amount that valued Facebook at £24 billion, so it's gained £8 billion of value inside a month. GROSS revenue last year (NOT net profit) was £2 billion. Time Warner's revenues last year were £24 billion, yet it's said to be worh less than FB.

Facebook has been in existence just a few years.

A comparision between the two Companies (FB & Boeing) social worth is interesting, too.....One is a wonderful time-saver, the other a time-sponge. One runs a piece of clunky software, the other has designed & manufactured 1,000's of incredibly safe & reliable aeroplanes.

I don't much understand things these days, but I'm pretty sure another dotcom bubble is currently on the cards.

Founder Mark Zuckerberg's personal shares are now valued at 9 billion.

On his facebook page, his status is described as "Smug"

Goldman Sachs bought 1% of facebook, and when they wanted to do so Zuckerberg and team told GS to make them an offer. It's privately traded after all

GS settled on $500m. For 1%. Hence the notional value now implied.

Bonkers, really.

Why did GS want 1%? to get the corporate business when facebook (once it matures) starts hoovering up other social media businesses (which will be a sure sign that the J curve has plateau'd)

So actually GS are spending $500m up front to earn an indeterminate amount of fees over an indeterminate time frame in a business that on any rational benchmarks is trading at daft valuations

Bonkers.

Although I have no interest in facebook and am possibly the only person under 30 without it I did see a program saying he stilll lives in the same town he did before he was multai and still drinks in the same places, respect.Guessing the smug thing is a little joke. Also pretty sick that he turned down a huge offer from google I believe and that was obviously a hugely correct decision but also a very brave one,no way I'd have had the minerals to turn it down.

Corporate America soon forgot about Lehman Bros & all that followed. What goes round.......

There is no realistic way of justifying those valuations.

Guess what % of FB Mr Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway owns?

None

Mr Buffett is all about cash flow and undervalued assets.

I would bet my net worth in 30 years time that it wont be known to anybody under the age of 20.

I could, theoretically, be around for another 30 years. (And I will, or die trying)

Where will technology be by then?

I'm going for laser powered space flight, matter transporters, and motorway service station teapots with spouts that don't spill tea all over the table.

First two are for sure but the latter seems pretty unlikely to be achieved so quickly, maybe 50 years would be more realistic.

It's not the first time, Zuckerberg created the concept for something or other when he was just out of school and was offered a $1m to develop it - he turned it down and went to Harvard instead.
