Just as cheap as it was back in the day then.

I can drive 50 miles - say, from here (London) to Brighton - on a gallon of diesel. (My first car did about 15mpg!). Seems pretty cheap to me. I can take 3 or 4 passengers at almost no extra cost, too, so we travel at a fuel cost of about 4p per mile. Cheapest thing in cheapville.

Let's call it 15p per mile. I can drive a mile in a matter of seconds, but it takes me 10 or 15 minutes, & a lot of energy, to walk a mile.

I can't grasp how people think that's "expensive". It's a bargain in relative, modern-day, terms.

It costs a quid for a bottle of water & millions of bottles are soild daily. It costs a quid for a Macdonalds burger. And 6 or 7 quid for a gallon of petrol is expensive? I dont think so.

People think it's expensive because it used to be cheaper.  That does not make it expensive, or bad value.

As for those who blame the fuel companies, well they need to do a little research, & see how much of the price is tax.

You could educate a kid (life-skills excepted) on Wiki, you really could. Imagine how valuable it is to those in the less-developed countries who can get internet access, but no formal schooling.

I believe Wikipedia applied for charitable status on exactly that basis.

Correct. I think it was rejected on some sort of technicality.

I just know it's free, & one of the greatest educational tools & archives of our age, available to anyone who has access to the internet. I think that's an awesome justification for the very existence of the internet.

Tikay, can you stop calling wikipedia "wiki" - it simply doesn't make sense.   A wiki is a piece of software used in a web browser that allows collaborative publishing and editing of content.  Wikipedia is the most famous one, followed by Wikileaks - but there are thousands (including Sickipedia - but you really don't want to go there).

It's like calling this place 'forum'. 

It makes perfect sense to everyone else. And in fact, to you, because you know precisely what my intended meaning is.

A vacuum cleaner does not have to be a Hoover, but that's the generic term.  We "Hoover up", we don't "Dyson up" or "Henry up". But everyone knows what meaning is being conveyed.

When the wikileaks story hit the news big time, a large number of people (will have to find the figures) thought it was about wikipedia.

I know what you're on about, but if I was prone to tilt - I'd be on epic tilt everytime you say it.  On 'forum' people know what you're on about, but on Poker, I'm not sure they would.
