How are the moles?

Hahaha. I spit my tea out you daft bugger.

The moles seem extraordinary healthy, wantonly vigorous, and totally immune to bad vibes and curses.

Someone sent me this.

We are hitting £129.9  a litre in some areas now and soon we will be faced with paying £1.50 per litre. So Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea:

This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign' that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work.

Please read it. and if you agree, join in...

Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS - not sellers, control the market place. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:

For the rest of this year (2011) DON'T purchase ANY fuel from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one) i.e. ESSO and BP.

If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers all around the world.
Well, it's really simple to do!!
Please don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach the millions of fuel-buyers we need to make it work.

I am sending this note to at least 30 people. If all of you send i t   to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)....and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on.  By the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it.....

THREE HUNDRED MILLION  PEOPLE!!!

Again, all YOU have to do is send this to 10 people
(or as many as you can). That's all you have to do plus NOT buy motor fuel at ESSO/BP).
So how long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 plus MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on.

AND PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES.
It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell,Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Jet etc. i.e. Boycott BP and Esso.
Just imagine the panic at BP and Esso Headquarters when
the fuel sales (and product sales from their forecourt shops) suddenly begin to fall.
Send this to ten e-addresses (or as many as you can) and not buy anything at BP or Esso forecourts. A simple yet effective way to see what a difference People Power can make.

Also got this "Pinch yourself" email this morning.

Please note that Meeting Room 3A is in the House of Lords, not the House of Commons as is stated on your Table of Proceedings. You still enter Parliament via St Stephen's Gate and inform security that you are attending a panel review of government policy. A delegates list will have been left with security.
kind regards,

You could educate a kid (life-skills excepted) on Wiki, you really could. Imagine how valuable it is to those in the less-developed countries who can get internet access, but no formal schooling.

I believe Wikipedia applied for charitable status on exactly that basis.

They were turned down.

Correct. I think it was rejected on some sort of technicality.

I just know it's free, & one of the greatest educational tools & archives of our age, available to anyone who has access to the internet. I think that's an awesome justification for the very existence of the internet.

Stop talking such sense, it's getting boring.

Say something stupid.

Tikay, can you stop calling wikipedia "wiki" - it simply doesn't make sense.  A wiki is a piece of software used in a web browser that allows collaborative publishing and editing of content.  Wikipedia is the most famous one, followed by Wikileaks - but there are thousands (including Sickipedia - but you really don't want to go there).

It's like calling this place 'forum'.

Yes, and the line "It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell,Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Jet etc. i.e. Boycott BP and Esso." makes no sense -- as where do they think that petrol comes from?  For example, all Sainsbury's petrol is supplied by BP.

So "300 plus MILLION people could be contacted within the next 8 days!!!" was a bit optimistic then?

Can anyone find a chart that shows equivalent fuel prices from previous years, so that I can see how much (If any) more expensive it is in real terms?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2008/may/22/youthinkfuelpricesarebad

and this table includes 2010 (but not so far back):

It makes perfect sense to everyone else. And in fact, to you, because you know precisely what my intended meaning is.

A vacuum cleaner does not have to be a Hoover, but that's the generic term.  We "Hoover up", we don't "Dyson up" or "Henry up". But everyone knows what meaning is being conveyed.
