Tom this is the first time in 50 odd years that i have not heard a cuckoo.
I know i am obsessed with this, but i am surrounded with acres of woodland and not a single chirp.
Me nether.
You usually hear it before me and post about it. I was going to send an email to remind you.
PS- Just had a mooch around the web and there are several reports regarding the absence of cuckoos.

The picture of the lump on my shin didn't come out very well, so I've kinda lost enthusiasm.

This is my broken post. the top part was completely below ground so there was absolutely nothing to get hold of.
It was like extracting a rotten tooth from a giant gum.

Warning! When swinging crowbar at post, do not interpose leg. Possible consequences include pain / being mistaken for Michael Flatley.

New post.
Odds on the kids allowing it to remain spirit-level true until the concrete sets?

Today's breakages.
Gatepost - broke.
Mrs Red's car - broke.
Lawnmower - broke. (I mean no compression, sounds like con rod & piston have fallen into the sump broke)
Leg - almost broke.
County court judgement against me in my absence. (OK not a breakage, but it still pissed me off. I told my insurance company about an impending claim and they told me to ignore it, they were dealing with it).
Spirit - not broke. (It's just stuff after all).
Invictus
OUT of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

what a shame thats going - a beautiful piece of wood! Will you reuse that at all Tom?
I think you would like to see some of the stuff I am currently working on Tom. I am a chartered Building Surveyor, and have recently set up my own consultancy. However underpinning my business in these slow times I am doing some loss adjusting - but I am specilasing in motor impact claims on highways. 90% of it is motorways, but the other 10% is fences/dry stone walls the usual car (property) prangs. Im sure the amounts people try to charge would make your eyes pop out!
