How's this for timing, regards the feeding bit above.

My grandson and I were out today, along the canal and then followed the Water O Leith from Slateford back home to Colinton.

Passing under one of the many bridges on the canal, I took this:

That's great Geo.

You're a regular David McAttenborough,

The wee man and I are out most weekends and he loves it. We bought a book on birds at the Water O Leith centre today which is helping us identify them. Will stick up a couple more once I have uploaded to photobucket. I need help identifying one.

A love of nature and the outdoors is a great thing to fire up in a young man.

It will last him a lifetime and give him endless pleasure.

The book is an Ispy game type thing. As you tick off each bird spotted you collect points. On collecting 1000 points you then send away for a certificate. He collected a few points today and enhanced his recognition.

Need help on this as not found in the book. Great wee singer and I think it may be a song thrush.

I think it's a song thrush too, but the mistle thrush is very similar.

You can listen to the song thrush here. Does this sound like yours?

I've always walked, but the addition of a semi decent camera has made the days so much better and I've learnt so much.

The wee man absolutely loves it and we struck a deal today. Spend as many weekends walking as possible up till his 7th birthday next year, gradually getting longer and the occassional night or 2 camping out so he builds up and we are going to do a large walk/camp together. Probably the West Highland Way............roll on next April/May

Great pics of the wren Geo, they can be devils to catch with a camera they never hold still.

Great idea with the Grandson, my Dad put a lot of time into getting a love of the hills & wildlife into me when I was a boy & it's stuck with me forever. He's a lucky boy.
