Tom
3am Sunday morning
I am driving down a country lane between Botchestown and Newtown Unthank in your neck of the woods, having finished updating at DTD and staying with a friend
Lights on full beam, I round a corner and there in front of me trotting up the road, half shrouded in mist, are 10-12 black and white horses and ponies. I am not quite sure if they are best described as "Gypsy's ponies" (no offence meant)..but long flowing hair on manes and on the lower parts of their legs much like the horses I have you describe traded at fairs etc tc
Beautiful creatures. I had to follow them down the road for about two miles at about 50 yeards distance, they occasionally speeded up, then slowed to a walk, and eventually pulled off the side of the road to graze at which point I left them
We're only surmising of course, but these wouldn't be wild horses would they? More likely to have escaped a field/enclosure?
If I were to come across this again, I report such an occurrence, and if so to who?
Definitely escapees.
If you come across any loose horses / cows etc in future, report them to the local police.

Speaking of being sensitive Tony, I finally won one hand (the last hand of the night) against an excellent player who had been crushing me for hours. I mucked and he asked me what I had, so I told him, truthfully.
He didn't believe me, so I said if you're not going to believe, why ask?
Obviously annoyed, he said, "Because I thought you would give me a credible answer."
It was a simple indecent, but for some reason, it really bothered me.
What a big girl's blouse I really am.
You're not the only daft old sensitive bugger on here you know.
I'm still wondering about your "runs with the hare and sleeps with the hounds" remark.
Bloody Hell, I'm accidentally upsetting people all over the shop lately.
It was meant as a compliment Ralph. I'll explain as soon as I have time.

Wow...you can shout that one from the rooftops. Can it truly be justified?

Ralph. What I really meant to say was that you are one of those rare individuals who are comfortable with people from all walks of life.
You can discuss football with the lads down the pub, or wine with the guests at a formal dinner.
You could be a genuine friend to both the poacher and the gamekeeper, and neither would need to worry about your integrity.
Basically, you have lived a rich and full life and I admire the man you have become because of that.

I did actually think that you meant something like that and I feel bad for even mentioning it now Tom.
It's just not how I would use the hare and hounds metaphor.

Do you really think confession is good for the soul Tom?
In that case forgive me father for I............once worked for a temping agency as a temporary data input clerk for a direct mail company who held the accounts at the time for Comic Relief, The Telegraph, Burgerking, Pizza Hut etc you get the picture. It was an awful tedious job, punching in names & addresses all day.
I wasn't there that long before I found a permanent job elsewhere. I was also having a bit of a not so good phase with the ex at the time.
About 2 months after I left I got home from work one night and in the pile of post was a Burgerking Kids Club Activity pack addressed as follows:
Welcome to the Burgerking Kids Club Master **** yes I know I'm a f**king w**ker *****.
Guess I had a must have had a really bad day!

The investment in bird feeding stuff has bought tangible rewards for my son today as he got to see a Sparrowhawk that was perched in the garden. Attracting bird-feeders with a bird feeder wasn't exactly what we were trying to achieve but I suppose it's a natural consequence of doing so. Think my wife was a bit chuffed to see it as well but she wasn't able to get a photo. i should imagine it'll be back and we can get a pic.

I had a quick word with Greg, 'Junior' Hill, and congratulated him on his decision to change his alias to 'Junior Senior' in light of his advancing years.
To everyone's childish amusement, some random wag at the same table helpfully suggested that it was also time for me to change mine.... to Dead Dog.
Oh that was funny....
